I had a Phillips upscaling DVD player and it was great for about a year, and then it started making a loud snapping noise and the picture would go black for an instant. This would happen every few minutes or so. So we got about a year of use out of it, but it did have great picture quality. In fact it convinced me that I don't need a bluray player at all. Upscaled DVDs look fantastic from the couch, at least if you don't have one of those super massive TVs. Ours is a 32" 720p set. If you've got a similar set, you don't need bluray.
I only buy the odd physical medium just so I can burn it my local network and have quick easy access to MY purchase with out watching 15 minutes of previews and warnings piracy.
Still not going to get one, even if it was $50. Disks still cost a bunch.
@gerrrg It plays DVDs you know, and there are plenty of Blu Ray bargains around to start building up a collection.
@gerrrg: Not so much. Just don't buy discs at Best Buy unless they for some unknown reason happen to have the best price. Amazon FTW.
@Jordan not so much yourslf hump
@gerrrg "Still not going to get one, even if it was $50. Disks still cost a bunch." Just the disks you want. There are over 100 titles under $10 on Amazon. The cheapest I've bought is $5.99, and several titles at $7.99.
I'll stick with my current players.
@Dr Blight id get some real bloother if i wuz u son!!

I work at Target it's a clearance price so it's first come first serve and another target might have it for a higher or lower price depending on the area and how well it's selling
@Console fanboy noone cures if ya be working at thiz target place let me tell you this, if u want to control the commenter try repsonding to one of them in bouts time someoen speaks up with your smarts
Christ, that's less than I paid for my horrible WinDVD + Bluray software for my HTPC!! WAAAAAAAAHHH!!
Guys, good luck finding this player at any local Target. As a Target employee myself, you likely won't. Anytime a price at Target ends with an 8, it means the item is on clearance. That sign would normal have a backer that stipulates that fact. This model was discontinued, and has likely been on clearance a while. What sucks is that because te displays aren't always owned by the individual stores, it'll stay on display until the aisle or endcap resets.
So good luck finding it. Chances are a store could plug the item number in and not even find it in the system anymore.
@Tenarchbishops let me tell you this sir. ve been to the argets in the past they be selling these craps like hotkicks! dont be so sure of ur self there macho
Oh by the way...even if it's on clearance at one store and regular price at another, the target with the regular price won't match the lesser. Price matches are never made for clearance merchandise.
@Tenarchbishops u want to tell the people in the orphanage that when they wish for their lives they can have diz bunch! but its just nott ehre. dont spoil dem surprize higg
I am certain that what I stated was the truth. If you wish to contest it, do your research and respond without typing the way you speak. Or get a job with target.
I saw the Panasonic on Saturday for $99.
Thanks for the heads up on this, just ran out and bought one! Make sure you look on the box for the orange clearance tag. The regular price was $179.00
I am not surprised as Blu Ray palyer rates are dropping really fast. I got one for $140 too. http://www.abt.com/product/39806/Panasonic-DMPBD60.html. It was such a steal deal. A Blu Ray player for $140!!! I still cant believe I got it so cheap!
Thanks Engadget and slow Target employees!!!I just grabbed the last one at the Target in Portland, OR. Love it when the giant price tag above the item still says $139.99, but there's a tiny red clearance tag that says $69.98.
This would be great for my bedroom. I checked my local Target yesterday but the price on the shelf was $179.00. I didn't see any boxes out either.
