Zero watch concept perfects the minimal timepiece
Unless you're a fan of high-tech jewelry, few things are as irksome as an overblown wristwatch design (we're looking at you Tokyoflash). While a binary timepiece will certainly up your geek cred, it's not very useful for providing at-a-glance information. Robert Dabi's Zero concept above, however, remains simple, beautiful, and amazingly enough, useful, all that same time. Practical too if he can coax a batch of round LCD displays into a production run. More pics and video after the break.

Looks like 4:20 to me.
Watches are my only weakness
"While a binary timepiece will certainly up your geek cred," -- Most so-called binary clocks are actually binary coded sexagesimal; the hours, minutes, and seconds are each presented separately, so that you never need to parse any binary number larger than 59. A while ago I did up a demo of a true binary clock, which uses 10 bits to show the number of minutes since 12:00. (Minutes since midnight would be better, but that'd require 11 bits, which'd take a different visual design.) You can see it at:
http://www.thibault.org/binary-clock/svg/clock.svg
It requires that your browser support SVG with Javascript; I've seen it work on Firefox, Opera, Opera Mobile, and Midori (which is based on WebKit).
Bears a striking resemblance to Android's polar clock
Is this an actual product?
I would so buy this...I would like to have a seconds "circle" in the middle.
I want one.
Watches are getting lamer by the day, and their solution is to make them harder to read?
Can we please stop using the word "minimal" for everything that's somewhat cool looking or pretty? There's nothing minimal about this.
Too bad it's a concept, I would have bought one right away!
nice design , but I'd still prefer a kind of normal wrist , at least a closed one .. this looks gay >_>
You want a real minimalistic timepiece? Get a Movado Museum. This looks plastic fantastic next to that.
There should be a small circle in the middle for seconds...
Uhh...how do you SET the time?
they could make it with LiquaVista as seen in this video

Hm. This is very similar to S+tarck watches that have been out for a while.

The only problem I see is this watch won't cost ZERO dollar.
People still wear wrist watches?
Jeez. I have two clocks on my person most of the time: A cell phone, and a PMP. And there are clocks everywhere around me (in the car, on the bus, on the desk at work, on the computer's Windows desktop, hanging on the wall, etc.)
What's the use of a wrist watch in a society where every new gadget has a clock built in, and every public building has one at every computer terminal and desktop?
@ZeroCorpse
Good point. I would guess one of the reasons they're still around is to make a fashion statement, like a piece of jewelry- matching an outfit or something.
Yes it looks good like a lot of these kind of watches but practical hardly. Its just less obscure than some of the other designs. When I need to know exactly what time it is this is useless if I could tap the display and get the exact time then it could be useful. Anyone who has run for a train knows a minute can be a big deal.
I haven't worn a watch in years, but could totally get behind this.
I with they could sell it for Zero Dollars!
Meanwhile, there are plans on producing this watch :-D If you want to be updated about this project from concept to reality, you can follow "ZeroWatches" on Twitter!
