Nexus One hits for AT&T and Rogers 3G bands
That's it folks -- the heat is on. Today Google's Nexus One has hit the virtual shelves equipped for 3G action on AT&T and Rogers networks... free of any contracts or nasty carrier locks. The device can be purchased from Google's phone store right now for $529, and if your pocketbook is hurting later today -- don't say we didn't warn you. This is the moment you've been waiting for, right? Full PR after the break.

Nexus One now compatible with the AT&T 3G network and shipping to Canada
In early January, we announced the Nexus One, the first device sold through Google's web store. The Nexus One is unlocked, which means you can use it with a SIM card from most GSM operators worldwide. Currently the device is compatible with most 3G networks, including T-Mobile in the US. However, there are some carriers that have different 3G frequencies, such as AT&T in the US and Rogers Wireless in Canada, so users with these SIM cards can only access 2G or EDGE networks on their Nexus One.
Starting today, an additional version of the Nexus One is available from the Google web store that is compatible with AT&T's 3G network. This new model can be purchased as an unlocked device without a service plan. In addition to AT&T's 3G network, this device will also run on Rogers Wireless in Canada. And like the first version of the Nexus One, it can be used with most GSM operators globally.
Additionally, Nexus One devices can now be shipped to Canada from Google's web store, and will work with a SIM from Rogers Wireless. To find out which version you should purchase, based on your mobile service provider, please visit our Help Center.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!
@zephxiii - "SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!"
MAAAN, WHO YOU TELLIN!
Busting out the credit card RIGHT NOW!
PS So sick of using the G1 on at&t EDGE only. Sayin...
@zephxiii *runs around his house screaming* WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!
@zephxiii
Before Verizon
@zephxiii
sweet is an understatement if sprint doesnt release the supersonic by august i may make jump back to ATT (evil bastards) my hero is feeling so old with all these great android goodies out there
@techlord - yea that is kinda cold!!
Oh, DROID! Verizon, lol...
AWESOME!! I'm still staying on T-Mobile because I'm a cheap ass but this is great news! Next up Verizon, and then hopefully Sprint!
@zephxiii YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS indeed. Now I need to figure out how to get it shipped abroad.
@zephxiii
I have to admit - I'm a little confused as to what this does for Apple sueing HTC (Google)... when AT&T turns around and sells an HTC / Google phone.
Indeed, it is the ides of March. Steve Jobs: " Et tu, AT&T?!?! - Why is everyone backstabbing me!??! Argh!"
Can you get a Nexus one with a one year contract? Or it is just 2 year on tmobile or unlocked?
@whySoSerious
what are you talking about... Google is selling this phone
@whySoSerious Tu gange jamais.
@Firehazel
I meant 'Tu gagne toujours.
@treats
You're switching to a carrier that is more expensive just to get a phone?
I've always tried to meet value in the carriers plan with a great device: that's how I ended up on a cheap Sprint everything plan with a Hero vs a expensive ass at&t plan with the iphone.
@zephxiii
Seriously! I've been waiting for this since the rumors of a better phone started in October or so! First it was *wait for CES*, then it was *wait for MWC*, then it was - uh, well, I didn't know! I wish it was the HTC Desire because i REALLY like physical buttons more, but i don't care, I can't wait any longer! Buying an iPhone 3GS on contract and selling it ASAP for this beast!
-Taylor
@Mentat
But isn't it "for" AT&T? I may confused - are you telling me this has nothing to do with AT&T at all? They don't need AT&T's blessing or permission to create a phone that runs off their network (and therefore impacting their service)?
If you're telling me that, then ok, I don't know what I'm talking about. But if AT&T had any part in this, then I believe my comment stands valid.
@whySoSerious
You can buy any phone from around the world and if it uses the same GSM tech and has the same freqs as AT&T you just need to pop a AT&T SIM into it and it will work. It's always been that way.
@Dorf That is the beauty of GSM/UMTS/HSPA/LTE!
No kidding... I didn't know that. Learn something new every day...
Just bought mine, replacing my iPhone 3G tomorrow morning when this bad boy arrives!!
@whySoSerious AT&T isn't selling the phone. It is just working on their 3G bands.
Damn. I can't believe a Microsoft phone actually has me hesitating to pick this up.
Hmmm... WP7 or Android..??
@BleeeK
Android!
Or to be fair, if you want WP7, you'd still have to wait 6 months or more, get one of these for now!
@Davek804 Ordered mine too! Sold my 3GS on Ebay two weeks ago. Have been holding myself over with a HTC Hero.
@techlord
Yeah. However, since it's an issue of simply inserting a SIM card, it does make sense it could be available for use on AT&T before Verizon. I just bought a Droid from Amazon from $75 so I'm happy for now. Much more bang for the buck than a Nexus One at that price. It WAS $50 for renewal's but I think too many people found out. :(
@Firehazel To bad no one knows or cares which is correct.
@Mentat The "Backflip" is an Android phone and AT&T is selling it.
I just bought one. I told my self, who ever got the N1 first (at&t and verizon) would win my business. Sadly at&t won. (sadly because I hate their commercials.)
@zephxiii This is HILARIOUS! My iPhone 3GS auction just ended today on ebay and I planned to buy a Nexus One, even though it only had Edge. What a great coincidence!
@Ic3Cold With 270 comments and growing I'd more than a few people care. Hell I'd pick one of these up just to spite Apple. I'm sure it would sync up with my Macbook Pro beautifully too!
@BleeeK The real question is android or the possibly coming out soon palm pre plus for AT&T
@Dorf Does that mean that if you bought this you could use it on network without a dataplan just using wifi? Just curious.
@Dorf Yeah, but it's not just any phone. It's the Nexus One.
Im sorry ATT bandwidth
@zephxiii
Google GPS and voice conversation at the same time.... balllinnnnn
@zephxiii
Yay! That settles it, I'm getting this over the iPad or iPhone.
@Jean Marc
You dont even know I still have a freaking Palm Centro with Sprint because of my stupid contract!
@Slvrgun
Uh, if you read what I wrote I said it is awesome AT&T is getting the N1, but because I am cheap I will stay with my N1 on T-Mobile.
Anywho, I hope Verizon gets it next week!
@whySoSerious
It's not personal. It's business. And I'm sure that AT&T has bigger fish to fry then to worry about Apple & HTC & Android.
@treats
T-Mobile 3g is so slow for me. I wish Google releases N1 with compatible 3g band earlier so I don't have to switch.
@zephxiii oh Snap! And it's my motha-fuck*ng birfday too! Bye, bye closed iPhone system. Hello, open.
@zephxiii
Very sweet indeed. I've been constantly checking for any news of this for a while. As soon as I heard it, i logged on and bought it. AT&T gets a bad rep but in Chicago it gets amazing 3g speeds. I should get this bad boy in the mail tomorrow as long as they don't deliver it to the wrong address as I've heard it happen to others.
@zephxiii
Can I hijack this post real quick.
Will the new Nexus1's still support Tmbolie 3G bands ?
Will all Nexus1's made from now on support At&t bands and Tmobile 3g bands or will they make two different devices?
@Bud92
Yes, there will be two versions, and both will continue to be available.
Now I just need to decide whether to get this or wait for the Desire.
@whySoSerious You dumb ass AT&T isn't selling this google released witha AT&T and Rogers bands and is selling on their site only you can't buy it from AT&T it is dumb asses like you that fuck up the world
@whySoSerious Google is selling this phone directly. AT&T has nothing to do with it, other than the fact that it's an unlocked device that works on AT&T's frequency bands.
You can also have them ship it to Canada for use on Rogers Wireless, Bell Canada, and Telus Mobility (all of which run on 850/1900 mhz UMTS).
AT&T is only involved in the sense that they exist and have a network that is compatible with this device.
@KungFuHamster
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I believe if the unlocked T-mobile N1 was used on AT&T, AT&T would send a message saying they are adding a smartphone data plan ($30) to your plan. I'm hoping this isn't the deal with the AT&T version, but if somebody would clarify on this I'd appreciate it.
@ScottyT Haha, me too! can't wait to get it tomorrow!
@Dexheimer
You better believe that's the deal. You'll pay the full, monthly voice + text + data that a guy that bought an iPhone, subsidized on contract, pays.
As soon as you pop in you SIM, if you were on a lower monthly plan, expect your bill to jack up around an extra $50 per month on top of that, if not more, with the mysterious 'fees' added on.
@rudy847 I fully agree, here in Atlanta AT&T has had been the best 3G experience for me as far as speed is concerned. Within the last three months I have had Sprint, T-Mobile, and now AT&T. Sprint's 3G didn't work at my house but worked very well in the metro Atlanta area. I had to get an Airave to talk at home. I had the Nexus One on T-Mobile and the 3G coverage was very limited and barely penetrated any buildings in the city so I couldn't stay with them. Now I'm on AT&T and loving every bit of it. 5 bars at home and perfect coverage in the city. Have been using the Slingbox Mobile app and it might be the best mobile purchase I have made. It runs circles around Sprint TV which is what I used to use.
