Nexus One hits for AT&T and Rogers 3G bands
That's it folks -- the heat is on. Today Google's Nexus One has hit the virtual shelves equipped for 3G action on AT&T and Rogers networks... free of any contracts or nasty carrier locks. The device can be purchased from Google's phone store right now for $529, and if your pocketbook is hurting later today -- don't say we didn't warn you. This is the moment you've been waiting for, right? Full PR after the break.

Nexus One now compatible with the AT&T 3G network and shipping to Canada
In early January, we announced the Nexus One, the first device sold through Google's web store. The Nexus One is unlocked, which means you can use it with a SIM card from most GSM operators worldwide. Currently the device is compatible with most 3G networks, including T-Mobile in the US. However, there are some carriers that have different 3G frequencies, such as AT&T in the US and Rogers Wireless in Canada, so users with these SIM cards can only access 2G or EDGE networks on their Nexus One.
Starting today, an additional version of the Nexus One is available from the Google web store that is compatible with AT&T's 3G network. This new model can be purchased as an unlocked device without a service plan. In addition to AT&T's 3G network, this device will also run on Rogers Wireless in Canada. And like the first version of the Nexus One, it can be used with most GSM operators globally.
Additionally, Nexus One devices can now be shipped to Canada from Google's web store, and will work with a SIM from Rogers Wireless. To find out which version you should purchase, based on your mobile service provider, please visit our Help Center.

I still want a pre
@(Unverified) pre sucks compared to n1
Finally, the suitable upgrade for my Google Ion (which doesn't do 3G on AT&T)!
Ordered!
I dropped the iFon3G for the N1 when it came out but AT&T EDGE was killing me.....I'll have my new N1 mañana at blazing speeds...wait wasn't AT&T's 3G network having issues with all those iFon users ? hmmmm, oh well. At least I'll have a multitasking, navigating, open source OS ;)
Where is the damn Verizon version we have been promised for 3 months?
@billboulwaregmailcom I'm guessing next week at CTIA :)
my head just exploded...
Please AT&T subsidize, i just don't see shelling out $529 for a phone if you expect me to stay on your network for 2 years anyway....
@elijahblake Get a subsidized iPhone 3GS, and sell it... That'll more than make up the difference.
@elijahblake You're not signing a contract by buying this phone. They don't expect you to stay on their network for 2 years. You can just sell your old phone (if it's got a good resale value right now) and use some of that to buy the Nexus One. Also, if Nexus One came subsidized (at Rogers from my experience), I'm sure it would come with a custom, locked firmware... Given Rogers' recent update with the HTC Magic, they try to remove the possibility of rooting.
@Luxury Guy
that is one idea... I'm just scared I wouldn't get what I needed to. I really want a subsidized phone not only because of the price though, but so i can have insurance on it too. I'd be so sick if i bought this phone @ $529 and then broke it or lost it
@elijahblake - ;-)...
Did anyone let Steve know about this?
OH MY GOD ORDERED.
Man I hope the Verizon Nexus One supports those 4 GSM bands.... I bet it won't :( would be perfect for my trip to Europe.
@Zachary Skype or Google Voice the bitch (if you can get an invite) then find WiFi networks - if you can. Seriously though, my sister is in the same boat, but hopefully will survive with WiFi alone.
is there visual voicemail on att with this phone?
t-mobile got a contract price option, how about I don't spend $500+ for a new phone. I thought i'd be able to renew my contract with att and get it. What a rip off
@killplay
its not "with at&t" its just compatible with their network. Thats why you wont get a "deal"
@killplay AT&T most likely won't allow it, so get over it.
This pisses me off so much, I love my N1, but I got off AT&T just for the N1 and NOW they release it on AT&T? Well, at least T-mobile is cheaper I guess...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I just bought and unlocked a Telus Milestone. WHY??? WHY?!?!!?!?
@Clapfoot "Because you touch yourself at night."
@Clapfoot sell it on Ebay QUIICKKKK!!
Smart move with google. Sales still aren't what they wanted I believe but it's gonna give iPhone a bit of competition. Being an iPhone user I welcome the new phone to AT&T. I won't be switching anytime soon. I for one still looking forward to June to see what apple has I store for there 4th gen iPhone. I think it would interesting to see if apple will decide to offer there phone to multiple carriers. That would really help there sales!!! Let's see what happens. Great year for phones to say the least!!!
@Mtmrob
I bet at&t is going to wait until after June to see if Apple is going to stay locked into exclusive contract to see if they will start subsidizing the Nexus One...
@elijahblake Yea I would agree. Seeing that google has been offering the N1 on different carriers and the fact that Apple and Google are at eachothers throats, it would only be in Apples interest to offer there phones on multiple carriers in a way to take a shot at Google. Only time will tell. Hardware wise the N1 is definately surperior but not for the price. I have everything I need on my iPhone and don't see myself changing phones anytime soon. Especially since Ive spent tons through there app store.
So if it's got the Rogers HSPA+ bands then it'd also work on Bell and Telus too right?
@tux2005 yes this works on bell and telus as well. just as the t-mobile phone works on wind mobile in canada. i dont know why they wouldnt list bell and telus, some people might not know and thats a pretty big market.
So what do you do when Apple sues one of your main hardware developers? Why, release that company's direct competition to the iPhone on the AT&T network, of course!
Hats off to Google on this one. The timing couldn't possibly be more hilarious!
plus I don't like to buy a phone without using it first. How can I get my hands on a Nexus One to try out
@killplay
That is a good point. But I will tell you all about it tomorrow! :)
BEST NEWS EVER !
N1 ordered!!!
YESSS
Verizon just got trumped... not cool Google.
I've been waiting months for this phone, as per your website and somehow you just throw up AT&T support. My Blackberry looks like Frankenstein's Monster... I need a new phone. When is the Verizon model going to be released?
@LowSky patients it'll be out soon. Also, remember the ATT version passed through the FCC 1st
So AT&T is a shit network for the iPhone, but it's an ok network now that it supports the N1?
Funny the way things go.
@Motlee I don't think ANYBODY commented that the Nexus One automatically made AT&T's network better. That's just something you ASSumed.
I'm still waiting for the Verizon version.
@sodaboy581 Which one of the 100+ posts would you like quoted?
"BEST NEWS EVER !"
"Anyone want a slightly-used T-Mobile N1?"
Etc....all imply the same thing.
Good call waiting for the Verizon N1 though.
@Motlee None of those quotes makes it seem like AT&T's network is any better. =P I mean, or that it's improved any. Your post makes it seem like AT&T's network all of sudden got better.
Some people didn't want their phone on T-Mobile, though, probably because AT&T's coverage (over all) is a bit better. But none of those quotes made it seem like AT&T's network was magically healed. Just that people prefer AT&T, for whatever reason, and are glad to get this phone on AT&T now.
@sodaboy581 Well, In my area Tmobile is terrible and AT&T is the tits.
Not sure about Verizon, never used it and dont know many people who do.
Im waiting till June/July before making a decision on the iPhone 4 or the N1. Hopefully Apple will stop pssy-footing around with these "upgrades" and really give the iPhone a boost in HW and SW.
That $539 is a tough pill to swallow either way.
@sodaboy581
I honestly think that we're just seeing how things get a bit blown out of proportion. I'm not saying that AT&T's network is the greatest, but I'm also not saying that its as bad as everyone tries to make it out to be. And you clearly see that in all the post that people are going out and getting the N1 w/ AT&T bands.
I think of it like this, if its so bad, Why stay w/ AT&T? & Why drop $529 on a phone when you're about to jump ship to another carrier that doesn't use the same technology.
ok i was about to order one for tmobile,now should i order this one compatible with att and will work just fin with tmo right?;)
@mendes It'll work with T-Mo, but... you won't get 3G speeds. You need to order the T-Mo specific one for 3G speeds. I don't even know why you would order the AT&T one if you're using T-Mo.
The T-Mo one will still work overseas, but you won't get 3G speed overseas. AT&T one will get you 3G speeds on AT&T, not T-Mobile, but 3G speeds overseas.
@sodaboy581, you got it wrong. T-Mobile Nexus One works with 3G overseas, AT&T Nexus One doesn't.
@Merkie Really? I thought AT&T's bands were standard and T-Mobile's weren't. Okay, well then, thanks for clearing it up.
@sodaboy581 No, 800MHz is the standard. AT&T's is 850.
This version of the N1 is actually compatible with 3G on both. It's a superset of the T-Mobile N1.
@metafor No, 2100 is the standard. Most operators around Asia and Europe use the 2100 frequency, which is supported on both versions of N1. Some operators in some countries do use the 850 band too, while only US T-Mobile and a Canadian operator use the 1700 band. So, in terms of world wide coverage, the 850/1900/2100 N1 is the best choice (same frequency as the iPhone).
@Merkie 850 supporting N1 will work overseas just fine, as it supports the 2100 UMTS band too. In fact, it has the same UMTS frequencies as the iPhone, thus will work wherever the iPhone is out. The T-Mobile N1 is more limited since more countries use the 850 band than the 1700 band.
Google... ramming it to Apple. I now see the hatred on Stevie boy's face. lmao.
