Hot on the heels of the recent
DSi XL appearance, rumors are swirling that
Nintendo is preparing to announce a second version of the DS --
the DS2, if you will -- at E3 in June. Over on
RPad they're spilling the beans about the supposed device, including the fact that it'll boast two larger, higher resolutions screens, an accelerometer, and it will also supposedly run on an NVIDIA Tegra chip. Finally,
RPad is also reporting that they spoke with developers who say their games will be finished by the end of the year... leading us all to speculate the unannounced successor could, possibly, be announced at E3, then available by the end of the year. Of course, this info's all 100 percent unofficial, so take everything with a grain of salt, relax, and we'll let you know as soon as we hear something more solid.
as long as nvidia has worked out their problems. don't want another G84, G86 GPU debacle.
as long as its not two touchscreens slice together... that would be very bad.
Nintendo is also having a battery recall program where you pay a 100 dollars and they will send you a new DS.
'DS2' Looks like DS²
Was looking into upgrading my DS fat for a DSi, but it looks like I might have to wait for the DS2. I'm guessing it'll be here by holidays this year or even early 2011 depending on how fast Nintendo is moving this new unit.
This is the one I'm waiting for.
I skip iterations. The last one I bought was the DSLite. The DSi and the XL were minor upgrades. If the DS2 does everything the DSi does but better, I will be buying another Nintendo console even though I know it will most likely be used for Nintendo titles exclusively.
I WAS going to get the PSP Go but Sony really messed up with their pricing/title availability/memory card requirement/lack of UMD or title exchange support etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc......
Oh and Nintendo, please take off your blinders and crucify the next executive that tries to force friend codes onto this device.
Oh and what's up with the old picture. Are you trying to be funny? I don't get it. A commentary on the archaic DS graphics?
good job nintendo
The most important piece of information about the DS2 from yesterday is missing: The two screens will be "bezeless", virtually not separated, so devs could use it as one giant screen.
Tegra 2 and multitouch resistive screen plox. kthxbai.
The XL has yet to even come out in the US yet and the DSi came out in April of last year. I honestly don't think there's a chance in hell we'll see a DS2 come out this holiday, but we might see it mentioned and then released next holiday.
Personally, I see both Nintendo and Sony dropping prices, making bundles, and riding this out until E3 '11 where they announce the DS2 and PSP2 respectively. The DS is still selling too well and they've just come out with a couple of revisions in the last year, and I doubt Sony is gonna kill off the PSP Go without giving it one last run.
Tegra 2? Nintendo likes to make a profit out of the gate on their hardware, and starting with a high end mobile processor tends to prohibit that a bit. Considering the killing they're making on the DS which was outdated hardware *when it launched*, i'll believe it when i see it.
@aoi tsuki
Yeah...who cares though! They make hecka good games for the DS. Way more fun than the PSP anyday. I bought the psp 1000 and my sister got the lite, and man...I'd trade a PSP for a lite anyday.
CRAP...i'm running low on time...at this rate it'll be out before i finish my plans...
As long as its compatible with the current DS games, then I'll be happy.
Although, I was going to buy a DSi XL to complement my DS lite.
What would happen if it ran android?
The earth would implode.
I dunno, but that doesn't sound like something Nintendo would ever even consider.
Yes this is indeed very good, I have been following this for a while now, I now have a DSi, but plan on upgrading it when the DSi XL gets here on the 28, and you all can definitely bet I'm gonna get a DS2 and of course the already planned PSP2....yes...this will be a good year...now I'm off to play SoulSilver and then Final Fina Fantasy XIII.....
They have released four different DSs and yet they don't have any plans to make another Wii.
