Make it four: Google's Nexus One coming to Sprint
Making the rounds, are we Google? Just over 24 hours after we saw an AT&T-friendly Nexus One go on sale, along come Sprint yelling "me too!" at the top of its lungs. Today marks the day that Google's first-ever smartphone now has at least a holding place on all four of the major US carriers, with T-Mobile nabbing it first and Verizon users still waiting for that vague "spring release." Unfortunately, Sprint's making us wait when it comes to finding out an exact price and release date, but at least we're assured that both are coming "soon."

nice.
@koopiskation Yeaa now to decide N1 vs Supersonic?
@koopiskation:
Google ain't playin around!
If the N1's were being physically sold in each carrier's stores, it's adoption rate would be much much higher. Think about it: The best android phone (possibly the best damn phone, period) on all four major networks.
@koopiskation
no kidding, very nice!
@ddddd
don't count your chickens before they hatch.
@liftedngifted1 Lol exactly. Just as I was settling on just waiting for the Supersonic too. Question though is if the Desire will come over as well. I don't think the Sense UI is a huge dealbreaker for me, but I think it would be for some. And does this mean this would be the first 4g nexus? or still 3g?
@Butler
I don't know, google strategies are hard to understand at first. I would recommend waiting before passing judgment on what might have been or what can/will be.
I guess Google really took it seriously when people are saying the Nexus One was a "flop" in sales.
AWESOME!! Now the Nexus One will be on EVERY carrier basically! :D
@ddddd
wow i doubt it. google is doing this because they know that the nexus one busted. droid is destroying it not to mention when the iphone comes to verizon, every ipod touch owner will be looking to merge their phone and mp3 player. apple is smart. they have been training the next generation of iphone users with the ipod touch.
@koopiskation
Bye bye Palm Prē it's been nice knowing ya!
@koopiskation
MOAR WIN, MOOAARR!!!
@l3admonky
i have the palm pre... Im ready to trade up.
@Butler
Give it time young Jedi ;)
@ddddd Yea, it's taken it 2 months to sell what the iPhone 3GS did in 6 hours, I bet Apple is really scared.
@l3admonky Yep. It's unfortunate seeing they created the smart phone category. RIP Palm.
@liftedngifted1 I have been sold on the Supersonic for a while now. If this had come out earlier I may have been convinced to buy it but now with the 4.3" Wimax version on the horizon I can't get as excited for the N1. Either way, good on Google for getting it out to all 4 major carriers. The idea of switching carriers for a handset annoys the crap out of me. I like Sprint's plans way more than any other carrier and I don't plan on leaving for the must-have phone of the week.
@treats Well you're one bright mind, figuring that!
@Mikeserena I bet they are. Suing the pants off HTC is one indicator.
@Mikeserena
Yea and for the iPhone 1G Apple had a good year of hipe plus the fact they where selling it through the carrier. You know go to an AT@T store play with it not to mention millions of dollars on advertisements. Then for the 3G, Apple had the 1g to back it up, then the 3GS had both iPhones to back it up. Lets see here what is Google doing? O thats right they are selling this phone through google on the internet. How many Nexus One commercials have you seen?
@koopiskation So much for yesterdays "Nexus One is a Fail LOLZ" meme
@liftedngifted1 That's my problem too. I think I might go with the supersonic if all of the hardware and UI speculation is true. A friend of mine has the nexus one though, and it is a beautiful phone.
@think before you react
Nah, baby, this one here is a rooster!
@coolblue830 Honestly, Sense irritates me. I'm using PandaHome and am happy to be.
@koopiskation
Crap. I just got an HTC Hero. It's still within the 30 days...
It was the best choice at the time. Is there any reason why I shouldn't take it back to Sprint?
@Mike10010100
take it back
@Supraman
Always an excuse, The numbers don't lie.
@Mike10010100
Honestly, I'd return it before the 30 days are up. I own a Hero now and I love it but you're waaaaay too late in the game to benefit from a Hero at this point. With the HTC Supersonic AND the Nexus One on the horizon, Sprint will have its share of knock-em-dead high end Android devices soon enough. My Hero is still chugging along but it's looking pretty dated against all these new monsters coming out.
@McPOW I hope it changes things but I hardly doubt adding it to Sprint will do much if at all. Now when Verizon one comes and if Google actually will put some advertising into this it could knock iPhone off its hill
@ddddd
Thats all you haters care about right?
"beginning of the end of the iPhone era"
God could you guys be any more desperate?
News flash iPhone 4.0 is right around the corner and once it drops it will continue to decimate the competition in quality, user friendliness and sanctification, not to mention SALES.
@TheRogueFFAngel
Amen Bruthu!
@ddddd
Google is doing it right.. its what happens when you only hire the genius's of the world.
@TheRogueFFAngel
Once again, the Apple fanboys invoke a nonexistent product in order to make them feel better about themselves.
@TheRogueFFAngel
I dont think satisfaction, money or market share are an issue for Google right now. The N1 is the new G1, its not meant kill the market right now, just establish a new way doing things.
@TheRogueFFAngel
yet it will still lack MAJOR things...
id take a nexus one ove an iphone any day, its just the better phone, full stop.
@HoldenMccrotch I am crushed between this and the Supersonic! The N1 can save my wallet!!!
@ddddd
Seriously, now that you've got a device across all 4 carriers, is it even debatable whether you should spend your time developing an app on iPhone or Android?
Plus, your SDK isn't limited to macs like the iPhone. That certainly doesn't hurt.
@Mike10010100
Once again the Android fanboys are grasping for straws.
@metaesapuet That's my profile picture!
@Mikeserena
...Like the fact that one of the best (if not THE best) Android phones is now out for all 4 major networks? Yeah. That isn't a straw. That's what we non-Apple fanboys call "facts".
@koopiskation
im just afraid this is going do drive down the price of the n1...ive already had two people try to sell me their t-mobile n1s for $350 and $400 to get the ATT&T version...
another thing thats annoying is that this phone isnt going to be unique and rare anymore :( its gonna be like another iphone with every little kid running around with one...
@TheRogueFFAngel
not to mention android phones combined have outsold the iphone by a lot and even the droid itself sold more units in the first 74days of its release than the iphone did.
LEARN UR FACTSSSSSSSSSS
@TheRogueFFAngel
Fanboys making rabid foaming-at-the-mouth statements about how much better Apple is make me embarassed to even own an iPhone. As for the better quality part... all I'm going to say there is not buying the AppleCare would be a very bad idea, I know from experience.
Luckily I'll soon be divorcing myself from the Apple crowd now that Nexus One is available for AT&T. I'd be willing to bet there's quite a few other iPhone owners on contract that have been waiting for a good Android phone we don't have to switch carriers for.
@ddjeffries Google's entire point of google.com/phone is to have every phone they offer on every carrier, that way you shop for the phone for you, not jumping around to each carriers website. Please watch this http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/08/the-engadget-interview-erick-tseng-senior-product-manager-of-a/ , it will give you a better idea of what they are doing. They aren't about sales, Google isn't hurting from the Nexus One sales, they're about putting out quality phones on every carrier
@d1mitrov your "FACTS" are FALSE. all of android combined still has a tiny sliver of marketshare compared to the iPhone. The Droid only sold more than the ORIGINAL iphone, which cost nearly twice as much during it's first 60 days and which didn't have a popular smartphone before it to pave the way to mainstream smartphone adoption as we know it today. you fail.
@Mike10010100
Just sell your Hero on eBay when the Supersonic/Nexus One becomes available.
You'll lose a bit of cash in the transfer but you should be able to keep your loss under $100.
@koopiskation Cool, so now they;ll be able to sell another 10 phones!!
@l3admonky
Sad as it is, I'm with you on that... unless Palm teams up with HTC and comes out with a "Supersonic"-esque device that runs WebOS.
:-)
So, I wonder how this is going to be distributed. Will Google be the one selling/shipping it, then users have to call Sprint/Verizon to activate the phone?
If it's on Sprint, does that mean Internet and everything is their $69 per month unlimited plan with Internet and the whole deal their CEO advertises? I just might give it a try if that's the scenario!
