Sony's VP of Realistic Movements Kevin Butler (boy, does that guy have a large business card) is at it again, this time in a video ad for the PlayStation Move. He's back from the future to thank us all for the success of the motion control device, and make a few jabs towards Nintendo and Microsoft for their efforts. Here's a few choice quotes.
"Because real boxers don't hit like this [flails arms exasperatingly]"
"It's also got what we in the future call buttons, which turn out to be pretty important to those handful of millions of people who enjoy playing shooters, platformers, well, anything that doesn't involve catching a big red ball."
"C'mon, who wants to pretend their hand is a gun. What is this, third grade? Pew, pew, pew."
Check out the futuristic -- or now-eristic, rather -- commercial after the break. And if you ask, sorry, we still wouldn't bet on Kansas City in six.
Normally I enjoy the PS3 adds because they are funny and focused on themselves. In this case they are lashing out at the competition almost like damage control from their fiasco (IMO) wand announcement at GDC. Sony is once again acting arrogant, overly cocky, and now as false prophets and it may backfire on them. Instead of bashing the other companies they should be showing some real examples of how the wand sets itself apart from the competition and not demonstrations so similar to Nintendo. Stand tall and above the competition Sony and not on the backs of the others after trying to bash them to pieces.
On a technical note: I noticed that the fighting game was very in sync with the player’s movements. This was NOT the case with the GDC demonstrations as there was a noticeable delay (dare I say lag?). Have they improved the game response or are have they fudged the video to make it seem better than it is? Hmmm.
@CycloneFever I really hate disingenuous people like this. See also Douche above me (self patronizing comment) and Microsoft fanboy on the first page (How dare you make fun of NATAL!!!!!).
That was just great. Looks like the PS3 is finally picking up some steam thanks to the slim, Playstation exclusive titles like Heavy Rain & God of War, & these hilarious ad's.
1. "Because real boxers don't hit like this [flails arms exasperatingly]" Yeah, because real boxers use dildos instead, that light up with pastel colors. Uh huh. :P
2. "It's also got what we in the future call buttons, which turn out to be pretty important to those handful of millions of people who enjoy playing shooters, platformers, well, anything that doesn't involve catching a big red ball." Yup, and it's called the Nintendo Wii.
3. "C'mon, who wants to pretend their hand is a gun. What is this, third grade? Pew, pew, pew." Yeah, because I'm sure people like playing shooters using a dildo that lights up with pastel colors as their gun. Sony is right, it's not 3rd grade, it's softcore porn. :D
Sony, great funny ad, but it can be used against you too.
lol fair enough but they are hardly something that can be used against them in regards to the other consoles. the wii or xbox dont use gun shaped controllers as default and for the xbox case that will have to be none (unless they allow you to hold objects). The only real argument here is real sports challenging virtual sporting games. now that is a valid argument ;)
also if you indeed want to call it a dildo you may as well call anything cylindrical a dildo too. *gives you a carrot to have fun with*
so this ad is saying that the sub controller will have sensors in it so that you can indeed throw stuff. as suggested by the grenade throw in socom 4? or is the cake a lie.
these ads are great though in comparison to other ads that try to take the similar approach - one starring Justin Long
IMO this is what the Wii remote should have been from the start, the "move" detects its position and orientation within 3D space, the Wii remote doesn't.
I think the vid has a point. My four-year-old can lay on the couch, shake the wii-mote up and down, and it looks like she's "running" on Wii Fit. So, if they can fix the accuracy in more than one plane, that'd be great. And Sony is awesome. Still just have a PS2, but we're wanting a PS3 eventually. (Final Fantasy, hey.)
WiiFit wasn't made for people who want to fake it. The whole point is to have fun while getting exercise, or at least to make it a little less painful. If you fake it you're missing the point, but yes, you can fake it. Having said that, the MotionPlus add-on for the Wii Remote allows for the kind of more accurate motion detection you are looking for, and I hope the followup to WiiFit Plus supports it (you'd have thought it already would have given the name, but oh well).
These commercials are great! I do have to comment about some stuff though.
To the guy that said that Natal is nothing more than an EYE Toy thats a bit of a bold statement especially for tech that you've only had contact with via the internet. I own all three systems and currently the only motion control I've had a hands on with is Wii Motion Plus and thats it. As far as Move and Natal go its really about taking Sony and M$'s word for it. In my opinion Move does seem very HD Wiilike but I havent had a hands on to really judge it. All these fanboy comments about stuff people havent even used is a bit overkill.
I have a limit to how much I trust any of these companies, remember they're trying to sale us something in the end. From the demoed stuff I've seen online Natal looks more advanced than EyeToy/PS Eye but again thats my opinion, not to mention we really dont know whats under the hood with Natal but we do with PS EYE and Eye Toy. Lets be honest its not like Sony or M$ is gonna come out and say their competition is better then their product.
I'm gonna wait this out and see who really has the best tech and potential when they're all available to the public. However I'm pretty sure I'll find myself owning both I mean come on I own a Wii and Motion Plus for crying out loud! I am curious to how the boys at M$ will make up for the lack of buttons but I'm not gonna bury them before their product is released just because I dont understand what their plans are.
One thing we can all agree is that M$ and Sony saw Nintendo printing money by tapping into the casual scene and wanted in on the action. Lets just hope that we dont end up with the two respectable platforms loading up in shovelware cranking out great games such as bottle opener and scratch the itch but in all kudos to Sony for having a great ad campaign.
I do think this ad is funny, and the series is certainly worlds better then their past efforts. The Wii with Wii MotionPlus is pretty close to what they are claiming this can do, but WM+ does suffer from a need to recalibrate, sometimes frequently depending on the game. Which doesn't prevent the swordplay in Wii Sports Resort from being a lot of fun, but never having to calibrate would certainly be an improvement. As I understand it, this is remedied on the Move by the camera and light ball. However, it's not clear to me how that helps the nunchuck-like controller. I'm presuming it will not be as robust as the main Move controller. Still, that's better then the Wii Nunchuck which doesn't and can't have Wii Motion Plus.
The one big problem with Move, though, is that it didn't ship with the PS3 from the beginning and it's unclear if they are even going to include it in the box with all PS3 systems from now on. If they don't, it's going to have a hard time staying off the clearance shelves since developers may not support it, knowing that the majority of the audience, which is already much smaller then the Wii, doesn't even have Move.
What I dig the most is simply these big ass companies starting to piss take each other.
I mean chick mags had it all. But now us tech heads can have cat fight dramas amongst our heros too.
The fanbois are going bezerk all over the forum. Now all we need is a good suing with a couple o counter sues and some unknown to come in and say he did it years ago and everyone's going down.
This ortta drown out the apple wars for a bit if we are lucky
Sony is backing themselves into a tight niche. Casual, puzzle, and simple sports game devs are probably going to say, "Might as well put it on the Wii, this isn't our market." Keep your options open. I might be rooting for you!
Well I see the Xblox whiners are out in force trying to justify their stupidity. Go back to your cages and get your credit cards ready for another Live payment you fools.
This ad is funny and sharp. Reminds me of the Verizon ads. That makes me wonder... Is there a relationship between Xblox users and iPhony users? Dual stupidity perhaps?
You have to hand it to them Playstation commercials are really funny and we can all appreciate funny. I love my PS3 way more than my XBox 360, and while I don't really like any form of mote controls or even moteless activity that require my body to exert effort, technically Project Natal looks way better. I mean it's basically military grade LADAR systems. Still while Project Natal is leaps and bounds technologically better get ready for the typical lame Microsoft advertising to promote it, which will likely use music from a Sony franchise game once again. haha Check out our reviews for both at baduku.

KC in 6! Zack Greinke is the man!!!
The motion thingy is cool too.
How is this funny??
most of you guys on here are silly.
@papplay yeah i agree, its just bias jokes that arent funny, they just make fun of other companys.
this one is not bad either

Sold me. I'm getting a PS3 with Move when it comes out.
PS3 and PS Move FTW!!!!!
I like pretending my hand is a gun.
Pew pew pew.
They lost me when they started waving colorfully lit 'personal messagers'
@Silic0nJ3sus I believe they call that the "Magic Wand" ;-)
Normally I enjoy the PS3 adds because they are funny and focused on themselves. What's wrong with him?!
Kevin Butler rocks.
The move is impressive and he was wearing 3D glasses too! 3D PS3 by November!
I love Sony's subtle attacks.
Sony making fun of Nintendo? Sony has some balls, very small ones. Sony makes fun of the Wii, when Sony copied the Wii controller.
Atleast the Wii controller doesn't look like a vibrator. Sorry Sony, but I would rather hold a controller than doesn't resemble a female sex toy.
I find this ad so funny!
and i'm an xbox fan :P
Really? No one posted that comment? I thought I would see at least 5 of them. *sighs* Guess I'll be the guinea pig.
OH SNAP!!!
This is hilarious!!
And I already called my bookie!
I liked the god of war PS3 ad. Made me laugh.
I laughed. Sony: Mission Accomplished
That was just great. Looks like the PS3 is finally picking up some steam thanks to the slim, Playstation exclusive titles like Heavy Rain & God of War, & these hilarious ad's.
It would have been funnier if his actions actually looked liked something you'd use on the Wii.
Sony is so low tech. lol.
Quite funny, and obviously a jab at Natal.
1. "Because real boxers don't hit like this [flails arms exasperatingly]"
Yeah, because real boxers use dildos instead, that light up with pastel colors. Uh huh. :P

@Punk Please don't underplay the vast utility of the carrot.
@Punk
I think you didn't realise what you were saying there.
I remember this way distant time when I worked in a fruit and veg shop part time and these two gay chicks walked in and asked for my advice...
The shop was their... well you get the picture
My friends, casual gaming has now infected all four systems. It was fun while it lasted.
RIP Console Gaming: 1972-2010
@jareth86
Which 4 systems??? Is Sega still around??
so this ad is saying that the sub controller will have sensors in it so that you can indeed throw stuff. as suggested by the grenade throw in socom 4? or is the cake a lie.

I'm betting everything I got on Kansas CIty getting trashed by Washington in fall.
IMO this is what the Wii remote should have been from the start, the "move" detects its position and orientation within 3D space, the Wii remote doesn't.
LOL - Kevin Butler is the man!! Hilarious and so nice to see a Sony ad with a bit of humour in. More please!
Great ad. What the hell is a sinco demya fly?

I wouldn't bet on Kansas City either, because it's going to be a rematch of last year, but this time Phils in 5 ;)
Pissed to be nintendo
I loled. Move > Motion Plus > Natal.
