Razer trumpets leftie DeathAdder, southpaws raise the roof with just their left hand
Say it with us, southpaws: "finally!" Razer is finally taking a stand for the under-appreciated (and vastly underserved) left-hand gamer market, and while we would've given these guys even more credit for developing an all-new mouse for lefties, we'll take a redesigned DeathAdder any day of the week. In essence, the DeathAdder Left Hand Edition is the exact same mouse that debuted last September, but in left hand form. The best part? Razer's not charging a dime more for this version than the obviously more viable right handed model. Hey, guitar makers -- care to take a hint?

Awesome. I have the original Deathadder and it's been perfect. This is going to be perfect for you lefties looking for a nice quality gaming mouse.
@Vandam500
Really, I've had to RMA my mouse every 6-7 months. 3 times already.
You made me Google "southpaw". :|
@Vandam500
Me too, I love my death adder, but I am thinkin about upgrading to a Mamba. Razer is a great company though -- amazing support, awesome drivers, and they always keep up to date. All of their software and firmware work on Windows 7, including 64-bit.
@Vandam500
I'm a leftie but use my mouse with the right hand.. It's just too much hassle switching between computers at other people's houses that I decided to learn it the "standard" way.
The only other thing I learned this way was guitar for the same reason. I'm horrible at it but I hold it like a rightie. All outdoors sports, bowling, writing, etc are leftie.
Do very many lefties use left-handed mice? All the lefties I know (myself included) use regular old righty mice.
Then again, good for Razer for making something for the 1% of the population who is both lefty and left-mouse-inclined. One armed men unite!
@ignaro
It's still not practical to use the mouse on the left for games - I don't want to remap WASD to the numpad for every game I start though I have a leftie friend who does this. Much love to Razer for making the effort though
Admittedly I also bat (cricket), golf and guitar righthanded
@One Love You made me google it xD
I want this...and I'm not even LEFT handed!
@xKNGx
behold! http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.169416100/categoryId.35208800
Yay! Thank you Razer! I will definitely buy at least one!
I have a couple of questions though. Why the low end model? Why not the Mamba or Naga?
@JViz Probably not enough volume to merit a high end lefty model
@JViz
no, it's because he's a god damn lefty.
@JViz it may be a lower end Razer but it is far from a low end gaming mouse.
@JViz Not profitable enough I'd imagine.
@kojo87
Yeah I have used plenty of gaming mice and everything Razer offers has been more than acceptable. I currently use the right handed version of this mouse and its great. High enough DPI, buttons but not more than you will ever use... you can macro pretty well with just 2 side buttons
Best gaming mouse i've ever had, good news for lefties.
those mice all have the same problem. they are too big for my small Chinese hand
@LandShark
i guess they'll have to first spend some time looking up wikipedia or something for the name of a smaller snake that's just as potent as a death adder....
@LandShark
Get the Orochi mobile mouse. It's ambidextrous and can run wired or wireless via Bluetooth.
I knew Razer would do us right eventually, i've been using the boomslang http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=boomslang+razer&oq=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=6993890946864953913&ei=mnmgS_KQOo_4Nbz28PYM&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CBMQ8wIwAg#ps-sellers for a good long while, but will still look into the 'upgrade'
Nice way to use more power consumption
@nus
As opposed to what? Using no mouse at all?
@fisher
I'm guessing he's referring to the LEDs, in which case he's an even bigger moron, considering that an LED uses an absolutely laughable amount of power. He's probably wasted more electricity in the last week than a hundred of those mice will use in a year.
@nus Proboly the most un-educated comment I've read in a while.
@nus
you can turn those off too. you can also turn your PC off.
@bazookafx3
LoL the point is not whether it uses small amount of energy...
The point is that using energy in a non sufficient way...
Yes, when one person buy it, it ain't a big deal, however, when millions of people buy it, it adds up
@nus
And my point still stands. You're a moron.
1) Millions of people will not buy this. It will be in the thousands.
2) An ultrabright blue LED will use about 20maA of power. At 3.3v that is 0.04356 watts. That means you would need to have 1,377 of these mice to equal the power of a single 60W incandescent light bulb. (or possibly half that, if it uses 2)
Now consider running a microwave for a minute. That's probably about 900W. Or the computer it's plugged into is at least 65W if a laptop, or 200W if a desktop.
The bottom line is, the total combined LED power use of EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE MICE sold will likely not exceed the power draw of one single US household.
It's people like you who get the environmentally conscious labeled as brainless hippies.

@Kamokazi
Engadget comment system working as always....
Too bad for us lefties whom has been assimilated to using left handed keyboard and mouse :(
@adroitness
Time to find your roots.
I've been waiting for ages...!
Being totally left handed, it's completely natural for me to use a right-handed mouse, and it feels weird even trying one left handed now.
I find it interesting that when using a rifle left handed people face their right side towards the target and use the right hand to aim, while right handed people use their left hands to aim. I find using my right hand to aim in FPS games perfectly natural, and I wonder how righties feel, seeing as it's not their natural hand to aim with (at least for FPS games).
@Rockerfest I'm in the same boat as you; I'm as extreme a lefty as can be, but have used righty mice for so long that a southpaw mouse feels entirely unnatural.
Sometimes, I think certain lefties get so used to using the dominant hand in a supporting role for a certain task - counterintuitive, I know. It's sort of like Oscar de la Hoya being a southpaw, but using that hand to jab instead of punch and fighting righty. It feels natural to him and, I suspect, if I boxed it would feel natural to me as well.
@Rockerfest I'm left handed, but I game, play sports and shoot right-handed. Although I do find that it changes some things. Also, I HAVE to play FPS using inverted Y-axis. I'm not sure if that's related or not.
Im still waiting for the xbox controller they made =(
If my left hand could weep, it would.
(Which would also be creepy.)
Awesome!!! Now I can have dual wield mice!
Logitech made a nice left-handed version of one of their MX's a couple years back. I think you can still find them. And yeah, this is awesome too. Left-handing the mouse feels far more natural to me. Every game that comes out demands extensive keyboard remapping. Shame they never include a left-handed profile.
@psycros
If you can find it, let me know where. I haven't been able to find them anywhere. The one or two places I thought had them were actually out of stock.
I applaud them considering a good chunk of lefties use a mouse with their right hand, so it's potential profit probably isn't that huge.
Will this be available in Ned Flanders Leftorium?
@Bahumbug
Absolutoodly!
My 4-year-old Copperhead is dying. Should I get Abyssus or Imperator?
its a great mouse, i have the right handed one. i'm playing for more than 10 years, and i think its super comfortable, awesome looking mouse (just like the other razers), i've never had problems with it. If you gonna buy a new mouse, i suggest this one.
are you reading this Logitech?
yeah, you better be
Be nice....logitech has always been reliable when it comes to handsets...I've only had two in the last coupled yeats, both of which I've destroyed, taped back together, and continued to use....off topic of mice....but still
@KeegdnaB
Actually, Logitech did make a left handed mouse for a while. Good luck finding one today though.

For those of us who've always wanted to try gaming (and other things) with their left hands...
