Samsung's 3D BD-C6900 Blu-ray player now shipping, for real
The last we heard of Samsung's BD-C6900 Blu-ray player it was up on Amazon for a pre-order -- and then it was mysteriously gone again. We're not sure whether anyone clicked the button quickly enough to get one of those into their shopping cart and onto their credit card statement back then, but even if you missed out then it is actually shipping now. At least, it is according to Amazon, which lists the thing as "In Stock." The price is still $399.99 and for that you get 1GB of integrated memory, "explosive 3D capabilities," DLNA streaming, and of course that lovely skylight to show off the spinning blur of your latest library addition -- or Netflix rental.

Yawp, it jumped in my shopping cart
....too bad I'm not really going to buy, just did it to see if I could get it in there before it disappeared this time.
@abedinthehouse
That thing is beautiful. Still doesn't make me want it with my PS3 doing so much more.
Hm, not all that beautiful. This thing only has one HDMI output, and yet it's supposed to be 3-D. WTF?
What if you're using two projectors, with polarized lenses? Every 3-D player should have two HDMI outputs, which can be configured for left & right.
A single HDMI port is a glaring design flaw.
Cool, 3d and Blu ray.
@gax907
cough
PS3
Heck no.
Why would you buy this, when you can get a PS3 for approximately the same price?
@Herbaceous Border Patrol Exactly my thoughts...
@Herbaceous Border Patrol
Anyone wanting to use a universal remote control? (Bluetooth relay not withstanding)
@Herbaceous Border Patrol
Anyone who doesn't play games or want an ugly ass PS3 in their cabinet?
@Herbaceous Border Patrol It's funny how every time a new stand alone BD player gets released, someone always has to say, "why would anybody buy this when they can get a PS3". Every time! Never fails! My reason: I don't want a BD player that looks like a gaming console sitting there! Make the PS3 (or PS4) look like the traditional A/V component size/shape/housing, and more people will then buy it for just a BD player. As it stands, I can't respect it as a serious BD player (even though it is). Sony keeps on saying "PS3 does everything", "it's more than just a gaming console", etc... well.. prove it!!! Make it look like more than just a gaming console and I'll buy one! But as it stands I want a BD player that is 17" wide to fit/match with my other A/V components.
@LosCA
Point taken with wanting homogeneity in your AV equipment. I should qualify my remark by saying that I don't own a PS3; my Blu Ray player is a Sony BDP350.
I suppose my (initially rhetorical) question was focused on a feature/price comparison. With the ability to watch iPlayer (or HULU if you're American) and stream media, whilst also being able to get firmware updates (and access BD Live) over WiFi seeming like a real boon to me.
Emphasizing the looks misses the point somewhat. The bigger issue is the shape of the PS3, which prevents you from stacking other stuff on top of it. Disc players don't generate much heat, and therefore are one of the few things that can go underneath other components. The PS3 squanders that.
So yes, the PS3 should look like this Samsung player, which is more timeless than the game-console look anyway.
Can't wait to hear about the endless glitches and firmware update hopes that go with Sammy BD players (now 3D)..seeya on gen 3 or 4 for these..
@chase1963 Yeah, unlike the endless glitches, nonplayable discs and no firmware updates because the manufacturer have given up on ever making it work Sony blu-ray player I have.
Been available at Best Buy for a week now.
ok so i am buying 3D br player , no problem, ...............BUT where are the discs 3D to put inside, i cant see no freaking Bluray on the market, on blockbuster, its like buying condoms but i dont have a girfriend(gay friend depends)
Have you ever been to Best Buy? They have a whole Blu-Ray aisle.
You obviously haven't tried very hard.
@papabear23
12 bucks each at Costco. Fairly large collection of classics and B movies.
Anyone have a good source for non-Hollywood (Bollywood, Hong Kong and European) BluRay titles?
So... you still have to have a 3D TV. And something 3D to play on it. And do you also have to have HDMI 1.4-compatible cables and connections? If so, then you also need new cables and possibly even a new AV receiver.
It's a nice looking player, but for right now the 3D part is pretty useless.
That's because they forgot to put two HDMI connectors on it. If they had, you could use two relatively inexpensive projectors with polarized lenses, and you could use cheap polarized glasses to boot. AND you'd get full resolution to each eye (albeit at half of Blu-Ray's already underwhelming bitrate).
Do you need 3D glasses to watch 3D content?
Any special TV you need?
For a $100 more you can get an Oppo. What would you choose? Oppo goodness or 3D gimmick?
If this is like most Samsung releases, it will only be 2 1/2D until the third firmware update. I like their products, but I have learned never to buy the first units on sale.
So I'm really trying to understand all this 3d stuff and whether or not I (or the entire world for that matter) really wants it.
If I have this player, do I still need a 3d compatible TV or projector?
@pbusardo yes, you need a tv, player, glasses, and movies. Ready to buy everything all over again?
Can it be? Looks like its only the front that looks like a mirror. Thaty untypical for samsung.. they have this habit of making everything look like a makeup mirror...
Will be a lot cheaper in a couple of months.
it looks like a giant VHS tape.
I work at a Best Buy and we just set up this new BD player with the accompanying 3d Samsung tv and the ridiculous 3d glasses. I sat down and watched Monsters vs. Aliens and was not really impressed. I was really hoping for something more than a so-so 3d picture. I will reserve judgment on all 3d TV's until I check out the Panasonic version. I have heard that they have the superior tech. We shall see.
By the way PS3 lovers, you're going to get a lower resolution 3D.

Aiseesoft Blu Ray Ripper is really best Blu Ray Ripper to rip Blu ray Disc/m2ts video and common DVD disc to any other video/audio formats.
