I worry about 7 Series. It seems to have started off with so much promise and is now slowly devolving into a souped-up iPhone OS.
Push notifications just don't cut it; I don't see why an elegant solution to multi-tasking can't be found, they seem to be patronising the end-users, thinking people will just leave dozens of apps running.
I know it's a bit off-topic for this post but over the past few days we've had any semblance of multi-tasking ruled out as well as side-loading apps, any customization and even copy and paste.
These tiles just seem like Sense UI and the only redeeming feature I can see is in gaming. I really hope Microsoft proves me wrong because I'm sick of my locked-down iPhone and am worried about turning to Android (fragmentation), WebOS (not many developers) and don't get me started on Nokia.
@Jamesy Sorry to tell you nobody does locked down like Microsoft. Oh btw just jailbreak your iPhone if you want more control. Just down forget you lose the security that the locked down platform gives you if you jailbreak.
Yeah, my iPhone is jailbroken and there are some good corrections to the OS. Multitasking works great with backgrounder and ProSwitcher/Circuitous.
The vast majority of the jailbreak scene is purely productive. SBSettings and Winterboard, etc. are all brilliant apps; if only Apple would recognize this, it's made my phone twice as useable.
We need a frankenstein OS: the openness of Android, the finish of iPhone OS, the gaming and Windows integration of 7 series and multi-tasking of WebOS.
@Jamesy I think part of what wp7 is doing with the hubs is eliminating the need for multitasking.... the idea of combining similar services together. I still wish it did have true multitasking but as a pre user currently I don't really keep a bunch of stuff open all the time.
It eats battery life like crazy when you keep certain combinations of cards open. I imagine this is part of the reason for no multitasking.
I think it is designed to be a better version of the iphone. The model of wm6 failed and the iphone didn't so they moved their platform closer to the "winning" way of thinking.
Where wp7 will "win" is in the media and gaming aspects. This is the xbox portable so you will have millions of people get it for that alone. It also has the zunepass & netflix stuff which makes it a compelling device for many more as well.
I think that's a great summary of what Microsoft are doing. I guess it's a step forward from WinMo6 but I think I was hoping for something better than iPhone with Xbox integration and Sense.
I think the hubs are great but think they're just going to become clogged to the point where really they're just categorized homescreens.
If Android would pull itself together I'd jump ship tomorrow. Google needs to set some hardware standards; maybe have a few configurations that all progs were guaranteed to work on and anything else isn't guaranteed but you can still tinker. I think this is the best way, regulated openness
The Galaxy Tab 10.1, much like its Limited Edition sibling that we reviewed last month, is ever-so-slightly thinner than the iPad 2, a slate that most sane individuals (and competitors, for that matter) would confess is the market leader today.

Please Microsoft, save us, save us all.

A man can dream, can't he?

@Jamesy That my friend would be the best phone around and I second that!
