Windows Phone 7 tablet concept is just a big iPhone (video)
How's that headline treating you? Surely the same criticism leveled at the iPad holds true for this tablet concept running the Windows Phone 7 smartphone OS right? Maybe. But it's certainly advantageous to see all those metro UI panels laid out as a single image instead of a series of vertical slices suitable to a mobile handset. And a pair of backside joysticks and double-duty touch QWERTY / viewing stand are nice features as well. Nevertheless, we already have a fictitious lover in the Courier who we're not quite ready to betray even if the designer is named Umang Dokey, okey? Test your own nobility in the video after the break.

YAWNNNNNNN!!!!!!! Can I get an engadget that excludes WP7S content? PLEASE!!!
@Mtmrob /S ?
@Mtmrob
http://www.engadget.com/exclude/microsoft/
fixed.
Or just don't go into these blogs?
@Mtmrob http://www.engadget.com/exclude/windowsphone7series
if you must
@Mtmrob
No, you can't.
@Mtmrob You just can please this people. "too much iPad news" "too much windows phone 7 series news" "too much cell phone news (during mobile world congress)". Come on guys, are you serious? Screw the exclude portals. JUST DEAL WITH IT!
Too much bitching.
Wouldn't a Windows Phone 7 tablet concept be just a big Windows Phone? iPhone?
@One Love
Um. Yes? hence the HEADLINE and complete gist of this article? Did you really not get that the first time around?
@JAbreu
+1 for you my friend
I have this amazing exclude functionality built right into my personality. It works AMAZINGLY! Here is how it works. If I'm not interested about the post. I don't go into that post at all! Exclude built right into my brain! Its awesome!
@JAbreu
Of course I can't speak for mtmrob and I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that this comment was meant to be sarcastic.
@JAbreu
Agreed. Nice to see the Apple Haters facing a dose of reality -surely it can't be lost on them that everything they ever hated about iPhone is being packaged up into this great new concept called Windows Phone 7. It is almost ridiculous.
@synthesis777 Its hard to type sarcasm. I like gadget news in general. I am an iPhone user but I don't mind the WP7 news at all. Just seeing what its like to be one of these Apple haters that trash on them every time news comes out. Carry on people. Haha!!!
@Hate Everything : Dad, is that you?
Wow, engadget. Bitter much?
@JAbreu +1 I really am getting sick of the fanboy rants on this site. If you don't like something move on to the next article. You don't need to open an article about win ph 7 series not having copy/paste and bash apple or vice versa.
@Mtmrob Don't know why, but that "inbuilt" terminology from the video really annoys me. Use freaking "built in"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There I got that off my chest.
@JAbreu
http://www.engadget.com/exclude/bitching/
@Jones Johnson Another winmo7 article. I'd rather read about droid than see anymore winmo7 articles. Seriously, endgaget, you need General News and checkboxes or drop down menus for [No Windows news] [No Droid news] [No Apple bashing news] and, well, there's not enough news for Palm, so you can just sprinkle that around.
@djt lol same here
@Mtmrob what he meant was ipad (big iphone)
@JonnySion
yeah, but no...
I could understand the title, if any windows phone 7 series was on any phones, and if this tablet was exactly the same as one of those phones.
Its also nice to see that engadget are finally admitting to being apple fanboys :)
@Hate Everything How is this just a big iPhone? Is a touchscreen device and iPhone? No, an iPhone is a touchscreen devices. It is the first massively successful one but we cannot say everything is an iPhone because it does the same thing. A PS2 is not an Xbox because you play games on it. An apple is not a cherry simply because it is a red fruit you can eat. The headline is pure sarcasm that get to the heart of the point. The concept is awesome! To bad it is Windows based!
Here's a tip for the smug sarcastros out there: the people who bash Ipad for being a big Iphone might *not* be the same people who love this concept for being a big WSP7 device. Hypocrisy doesn't work that way.
@lookseehear Windows Phone Series 7 is different from its predecessors, it's different from the iPhone, and it's different from desktop Windows, But different doesn't always mean better."
I agree but the question is, where do you draw the line?
Opinions: http://is.gd/8Eqvg
I love the title!
@emnetic
Shouldn't it be:
Windows Phone 7 tablet concept is just a big Windows Phone 7 phone?
Phone.
@emnetic looks cute but the interface looks sucky
@Luke I agree, and since WP7S > iPhone. Then tablet running WP7S > iPad. But I guess even the editors now are getting tired of criticism.
@KungFuHamster WP7S>iPhone? Really? Which one of the Beta devices lead you to that conclusion?
@emnetic I think its a slightly unfair title, because the iPad UI is essentially not much different from the iPhone UI, and that doesn't lend itself well to tablet sized usage. Whereas whilst WP7 UI would be identical on any size of device (going by this concept only of course), it actually feels to me like from the very start, Microsoft have designed this to be scalable.
Actually I think its fairer to say that the phones with WP7 are actually shrunken versions of any WP7 tablet.
@Luke
is it just me or does win7 mobile actually look better made for these devices rather than phones? I don't like the way on all the pics for phones i've seen you can see part of the next page on your current screen. And i really don't like the boring colored boxes on the home screen. But everyone's got an opinion and that's just mine..
@MatthewJ
WP7 phones aren't a shrunken version of the tablet, they are a cropped version. The phone version seems, to me, like reading a newspaper through a magnifying glass.
@KungFuHamster Wow you must have a time machine how can you say a product that won't even come put for more than six months is greater than the second largest smartphone on the market (in america)
@emnetic Except for the fact that the UI is totally more useful and innovative...and doesn't just leave TONS of dead space everywhere. It's the same idea as iPad- porting mobile OS to bigger platform. But this seems WAY more useful.
Oh, and isn't branded by/marketed by/pushed by the creator either, claiming it as "The most magical invention ever"
I don't think I've ever seen a headline criticizing Apple in all of my years on here.
@Chizzed Not true... the app store has been criticized many times for its lack of transparency. And several devices have been noted as underwhelming... just a few articles I remember:
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/22/unibody-macbook-late-2009-review/
http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/24/macbook-air-reviews-in-from-apples-starting-lineup/
http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/27/editorial-engadget-on-the-ipad/
@bondsbw And no, those weren't criticizing "headlines", but if you only read the headlines, then maybe you need to go to a different website... the editors at Engadget are known for having a little fun with their headlines.
The summary here, for instance, doesn't criticize much at all.
@emnetic
No one's even said, "Isn't the iPad just a big iPhone, too?" yet? Come on guys, you're getting lazy.
Screw this - I want Courier
@L3 Chiffr3
Good news. Both are vaporware!
@Wesscoast Looks like we found todays candidate who doesnt know the true meaning of vaporware, yet doesnt hesitate to throw the word around like candy. Congrats!
@Wesscoast yeah dude, concept != vapour
can this one copy/paste? lol
@mikmik111 Since everyone is complaining Microsoft will include copy&paste. And even if they didn't, the basis is WindowsCE and it's hackable. Xda-Developers will have copy&paste, a filemanager and hacked multitasking before the first devices start to ship.
@Mack Stone
At least they aren't coming onto engadget constantly apologizing for their beloved company. If anything, these so-called "Microsoft Fanboys" simply got excited over a new product. Then it was anounced that it was missing a feature and their joy has been dimmed. I'd say it means that the "Microsoft Fanboys" were simply "Tech fanboys" that were brought back down from cloud nine.
@mikmik111 I'm a Microsoft fan, and I've not abandonned engadget just because WP7 doesn't have copy paste. Plus, istartedsomething tells us that it will have c&p eventually:
http://www.istartedsomething.com/20100318/windows-phone-7-series-will-have-copy-paste-eventually/
@mikmik111
I am a Windows Mobile/iPhone fan but after anouncement of no copy, cut, paste. I will soon be Android/iPhone fan.
@mikmik111
But I can't ignore the fact that this indicates that MS lacks simple engineering capabilities. Or is it poor management? Or maybe it is just a lack of common sense....No all of the above I suspect.
@LongKnights
What does that say about Apple, since it took them three tries to get it right.
@jon It may have taken 3 times, but when will Android get all of it's issues worked out, they're on OS 2.1 and still have many UI issues.
@Mikeserena
I don't know. I don't use Android.
