Windows Phone 7 tablet concept is just a big iPhone (video)
How's that headline treating you? Surely the same criticism leveled at the iPad holds true for this tablet concept running the Windows Phone 7 smartphone OS right? Maybe. But it's certainly advantageous to see all those metro UI panels laid out as a single image instead of a series of vertical slices suitable to a mobile handset. And a pair of backside joysticks and double-duty touch QWERTY / viewing stand are nice features as well. Nevertheless, we already have a fictitious lover in the Courier who we're not quite ready to betray even if the designer is named Umang Dokey, okey? Test your own nobility in the video after the break.

*sigh* Come on engadget and people! Courier is totally fake. Let's look at the REAL things like ipad, android or win 7 tablets
Just a big WP7 phone.
microsoft comes with two great product the courier and now the windows 7 series phone software, this man designed a a very cool tablet. i am sure microsoft will be taking notes.
to all the apple sackriders. this thing was never called magical, or the "most important thing i've ever worked on." lol. how you like that? =P
@MackStone
have you noticed that you're an idiot? many have. hahaha.
Honestly this is what I expected to see from Apple. Something that was way out of the norm.
@liquidmonkey " i'm just trying to think how it might work is all"
Yes, and you proposed a counter-weight mechanism which I find pretty impossible to do, thus comparing it to a dream. That is all.
About the STFU, I think it is pretty impolite and I don't get how I "deserve" it by saying "Dream on".
At the end we can al just write STFU. What's the point?
Also check RemDX's comment and tell me how does it make sense?
Is it April 1st already?
@jon "Read some of the posts, it's obvious that some people here don't get the distinction. True that :)
@Atkins Go to this link.. http://umangdokey.com/documents/tabletconcept.html then you'll know what stand it uses while typing.
@james1785 Arrrghh. Got me there. Point taken. :)
Are all these tables just big phones or are the phones just small tablets? Are they all just small versions of TVs we can talk on? Or versions of 2-way radios with screens?
I must say I have never been this disheartened at the comments thus far on engadget - with an audience that is undoubtedly made up of intelligent individuals (no sarcasm)... but this article left me, erm... underwhelmed.
Firstly, I watched the video and was instantly impressed with 2 things:
1. The keyboard that flips down and around. Very good!
2. Controlers on the BACK of the device is PURE UTTER GENIUS! Your hands are there anyway, might as well make use of the fact that they are there. brilliant!
Secondly... I look through the comments, all 5 pages so far, just in case I repeat what I assume surely that these 2 points have already heaps of people picking up on...
........... NADA! Just a bunch of iPhone slash MS slash derogatory hate - unfortunately. Not even one person thought outside the preverbial box. Not one!
That's a real shame. This tablet design brought 2 new innovative features to light. This designer, whoever he is --- you've got a bright future! Don't worry if the masses don't see it. They don't have to. Hope you use that creative brain of yours to create even more gadget concepts in the future.
Why don't just go all the way and put Win 7 on it?
I don't know what am I supposed to do with this...
HP Slate => DUAL BOOT WP7S + WIN7 (when docked to external mntr+kbrd)
Something like the Courier would be the ideal tablet device for casual use and on-the-go needs.
I think the point of this prototype from Microsoft IS to be a large phone, thats the intention. It has video calling and you stand it up on a table. It's the type of device you would sit in your kitchen and use in place of a traditional land-line phone.
I'm not sure I'd want this, but from my perspective, a lot more thought has gone into this than the iPad.
I'm still riding the Win7 Tablet boat, but that looks pretty cool. A lot cooler then the iPad anyway.
