Are these grabs from RIM's refreshed BlackBerry OS 6.0 or just fanart from some sleepy design school student meant to trick the tech press? We don't know, but
BBLeaks claims that they come "highly regarded as real from one of our best connects." But before getting too worked up, it's worth noting the bizarre similarities between these grabs (San Francisco, the weather widget colors, Haiti tweet, and font) and the
slide pulled from that "Super Apps" developer webinar back in February -- images that RIM called nothing more than mockups of nothing important at the time. Still with a consumer-focused,
BlackBerry slider rumored to be making its first
appearance next month at RIM's own WES show, well, who knows. Really, does anybody know? Webinar image after the break for your clinical comparison.
looks pretty messy. like some bizarre mix of S60 and SPB on WM6.x. I doubt they'd move too far from the look of the BB Storm, which in my opinion is still fine for a consumer oriented device. The Storm with 5.0 is great for the average consumer, apart from the screen keyboard, which unfortunately is too small to be used in full qwerty mode.
@aniym
I think it's fake. Also I think it looks really tacky and ugly. I'm pretty satisfied with my Storm running on 5.0, though the hardware is another story.
@mr88 really? thats funny. i have a Bold 9700 and i love the hardware but not a big fan of the software. i will probably get a WP7S if 6.0 turns out to be lame.
Ugly much?
Frankly I wouldnt mind this. But whatever they do, My Bold 2 had better be upgradable to this!
Now that is ugly.
Fake, IMO.
@webmastir
Lol look at the Snooze Button. Looks like the Photoshopper missed aligning that. WAY off...
@SlaterGS hah..yeah..there are several necessary icons missing too. anyone witha brain call tell these are fake
@webmastir +1... looks totaly fake... and i think that even RIM won't publish an os THAT ugly....
@SlaterGS yea but they said the right side one is the fake from february.. the one on the left is the new rumor.
The current iteration of BB OS is very sleek, sharp and clear, I can't imagine RIM moving to something as cluttered and inconsistent as this. But who knows :)
Looks a Mess, this is a true CRACKberry OS
Looks cluttered.
@iFAP
Especially given the screen size of most BB's, minus the Storm and Storm 2, this would look so cramped and chaotic.
Omg
ima be honest. it looks pretty good to me. There are some apps i dont want to have to navigate to to open. I would like it to be in my face when i look at my phone. That espn one is an example.
@charliehustle
I agree, it looks pretty good.
People have to remember this is the BB world here, it's a whole different way of thinking.
I still dont know how my sister manages to use hers.
Looks pretty fake. :l
God, I hope not. If so, RIM just lost it.
Looks like a new home screen for WinMo, did HTC design that?
Yuck. Looks like another home screen replacement for WinMo 6x
Whatever it ends up looking like, I hope RIM make it fold the current Bold hardware. I'd hate to see them drop compatibility when their current crop of devices are so superb.
This is probably just a shitty custom theme.
The "scientists turn stem cells into pork" news item dates to january 15 2010...
@Hbishop I agree that a big company like rim or Sony should buy palm. I played with the pre a few days ago for the first time, and I must say that web OS is stunning. I'd be dissapointed if palm went bankrupt.
Fake. If this was some clandestine shot from the dark corners of the castle in Waterloo all the values would be in metric (being as the entire world, save the USA, swings that way).
Ever notice that the word "Snooze" just looks more and more insane every time you read it?
As fake as a fake thing bought on eBay from Hong Kong.
Shouldn't they like, make 5.0 work properly first?
Not too bad of a design, but looks very fake.
Look at the pic on the right and notice the white line below the 'snooze' and 'dismiss' buttons. Notice how it overlaps in a sort of strange, photoshopped looking way.
that is one uglyyy OS
@Hbishop RIM is not a charity. Palm's fuckups are its own fault. RIM, Apple and Google aren't going to buy it because they've all invested resources into building their own decent OSs and ecosystems, and don't feel the need to "save" Palm, nor tailor hardware requirements to suit WebOS when even Palm can't build hardware fast enough to run its own OS.
HOT MESS!!!!
That's NOT what's sexy....
@Atkins I think WP7S has spoiled us all.
Some devices don't even have 5.0 out of the box and there talking about 6.0? Seriously, RIM needs to get there act together.
Lrn2shop.
Did they licence SPB mobile shell or just rip it off ?
LoLberry
Ugly. Just buy a prē.
@Atkins If FisherPrice made an OS, this would be it.
This is not the UI for the new device, not even close. The actual visual design for the device is an engaging evolutionary step (revolutionary for ultra-conservative RIM) in the right direction towards a more consumer-oriented device from a visual and interaction POV.
Ewww
The obsession with giant clocks continues!
Is the web browser decent? Is the maps good. Does it support video conferencing? Can it copy and paste?
The UI looks cramped.
some credit to RIM, AT LEAST they're trying to revamp the look of the OS, they're current one is getting stale really fast.
i meant THEIR*
/facepalm @ OP
That picture just looks like a tweaked UI. The following picture is what RIM used to show developers an example of what could be accomplished with THE CURRENT UI if they took the time to code it.

When they redo their UI it will be quite a bit different.
@TwiggenBerries
multiple windows open for the loss lol....wrong thread :o
