It seems almost too good to be true, but it looks like the era of usable Gmail integration on BlackBerry might finally be upon us.
CrackBerry is citing information that
BIS 3.0 will be rolled out to North American customers in the wee hours of Sunday, March 28, when most of us are in a peaceful slumber (a good thing, considering that data services will be mostly down during the four-hour window). Out of the gate, 3.0 will offer Gmail label creation and deletion when using the plug-in along with support for OpenDocument file types and WMA audio, but the real meat should come shortly thereafter as two-way synchronization of read status and sent messages "will be added throughout the Spring 2010 by region." Technically, Spring starts today, so this could show up the moment BIS 3.0 goes live -- but given that we've waited literally years for this to happen, we're not getting our hopes up prematurely.
Too little too late. Funny this should be announced just as I'm ditching my 9000 for a HTC Desire. After a year of BIS use I can't begin to understand what all the fuss was about with this mediocre hardware/software combination. I just wanted gmail (apps premier) to work like it should on the 9000, which sadly it never did. This will also save me the special £5/month fee I'm paying my carrier for using BIS. And the less said about the browser the better. Good riddance.
Got trained on it earlier in the week at work. Surprised CB JUST Announced this. RIM had a KB article with the release date a week ago. They revised it recently to say "Coming Soon". I work for a smaller wireless carrier, and we were told this comes out Monday. So next weekend sounds interesting...
Ummm, the gmail sync feature isn't even going to be included in BIS 3.0.

Best in slot? ;)
i have used both Iphone and Blackberry
iphone has its merit , like youtube, apps, maps, music player
however.. when it comes to messaging and email .
come on.. Blackberry rules. . i think someone said , he gets notification for his MSN when his MSN don't run in back ground 24hrs.. i had that feature with iphone too. it sucks.. just to reply. it will take me about 10 seconds to log in .. blackberry .. i reply right away. no log in BS..
I like the blackberry because its slim especially the bold 9700. I used the ipod touch just to see and also the iphone. Might get down rank for saying this but I do not like the iphone UI at all. And I also don't like how you have to use Itunes to sync your music. With my blackberry Just drag and drop and done. and you can transfer to and from a blackberry device without any third party music software.
I am finding out with the ipod touch it can only go one way. If you don't have itunes library your pretty much SOL. Tried the backup purchased tunes feature said that I was not authorized as my PC was not registered something like that. Tried the manual disk feature and could not access the removable drive from windows explorer but yet sees it in itunes. That right there and amongst other things is the reason why I don't want a iphone or itouch.
I like my Bold 9700 because it is light and slim and I text and email a lot. and I don't use the bbm either. I use aim, yahoo, msn messenger AT THE SAMETIME. Like how you can open up many programs at ONCE. And Jail breaking does not count.
As far as gmail goes i don't even use gmail so I could care less. All i know blackberry are reliable smartphones.
I have a blackberry and I love it.
My friend just went to buy one, as she was going in the store, she saw a person that just bought a new 3GS and at the door, the person dropped it. The iphone broke (probably the screen shattering) and it got replaced.
BB's are tanks. iphones are multimedia devices. The fact someone stuck a radio in them was a bad idea. It barely works as a phone.
I use my gmail through the BIS servers, I don't need any plugin, it made my email status "read" and I was happy. So, nothing has changed for me.
just worked the way it should for first time for me as in I just deleted emails on gmail website on my home computer and amazing enough it deleted them on my blackberry phone message log. Used too show as read but never deleted them off phone.
