Thanx guyz
@pple
Darn this is my first time listening to the crapcast and i am so dissapointed because of the tone of the speakers. AS always this is AppleCrapGadget.
@nickcraze This is my first time reading one of your comments, and as usual, I am disappointed in ClicheCommentsHateWordsGadget.
@Nilay Patel
C'mon Mr. Patel, you are telling me that you were not aware that Paul was trying really hard to bash the OS when you guys( even called it out that it was unfair to bash an OS that is in alpha?) I mean the way Paul was persistent on the negatives was beyond fanboyism. The tone you guys took at times made you guys less credible in your judgement. Sounded like a group of girls talking about the new guy in town. If only and that is a big IF you guys were fair and balance(not fox news type) i am sure the amount of visitors would increase. I do applaud some of the points/arguments about the OS.
ugh. needs more gadgets less phones
@dan991199
dude, gadgets ARE phones.. and vise versa
Would be baller if you guys had a torrent method for the podcasts as well... Just my 2 cents
@Slick
Would be "baller". FIrst time I've heard that one.
Great show, but I miss sexy Paul.
HTC you'll see why i said that in the podcast
@slick @aaquib I'm down. Do you have a public tracker you think is good?
Come on guys, a little bit of notice for the live podcasts next time, i would have loved to have heard this live with the chat etc,
Cards=Amazing, If cards were on the nexus one or drois id have one
And you can lookup a web page on the phone with the pre.... on wifi! ;-)
or tethered to an android device via wifi!
My Dream Situation,
HTC buys Palm, Integrates WebOS into Android! Ala Sense
better notifications, better multitasking (cards!),
Idk about revamping WebOS , Just integrate it into android in an amazing way
Where is the Android Engadget show?
I have to disagree with Nilay about the hubs integration, I really think the things he complained about mainly how you would open a picture and then be presented with the apps that could edit or interact with it, sounds really awesome to me. I hate having to open an app (or remember the name of an app) and then open a picture in that app. I guess you could say six of one, half a dozen of the other but it seems normal to me to want to choose/open a file and be presented with the apps or hubs or what ever to interact with it. My 2 cents. Also if I hear the "windows phone 7 series oh wait is that the name it's so confusing" rabble again I think I will... (insert throw up here) ok they chose a lame name, the joke is not funny any more.
I meant Android Engadget App!
I miss sexy paul :(
Wow you guys are awesome! Ogg download ftw
Nilay is determined to convince anyone who will listen that WP7 series will fail.
@Edobe I think he's more critical at Microsoft not having a clear and concise message. The fact that they're actively discussing ideas is quite positive, although it's almost sort of late. I mean having an approval process for the Prog store (haha) doesn't have to be has draconian as Apple's.
I think Microsoft will really have to work to get it ready in what 6 months?
@Edobe Really? Because that's not what I'm try to convey at all. I just think there are a lot of questions still to be answered, and someone needs to just step up and call Microsoft out on that.
@Waveblade 6 months is a lifetime for software when a company is focused on it. 6 months ago opera 10 was in beta and now 10.5 is out and blazing fast. 6 months ago android was on like 1.6 and now look at it. And the beauty with software is even if it's not complete when it comes out it can still be updated. The important part is the foundation on which it is built and WP7 seems to have a solid foundation. That other stuff can be sorted out anytime.
@Nilay. On the podcast you seemed very negative when talking about wp7 imho. Yes there are questions that need to be answered but they are not the most important questions.
@Nilay Patel MS has never really been known for their clear communication....Not that Apple is, but where Apple is downright secretive, MS usually seems well-meaning but clumsy at getting the message out.
@Nilay Patel , I also agree. You seemed exceptionally negative on MS. But most of your negativity was around questions about things like "will overriding the back button keep you out of the app store". While I get that this will be important at some point in time -- you should also be fair and state that Apple to this very day is fuzzy on what may keep you out of the apps store!
The fact of the matter is that MS is 6 months from launch. They can be a bit loose, because they're not done. It's not like they're all done and are just waiting 6 months because they don't want to be too early to the game. Go back 6 months from today and imagine what answers you'd get from Apple about the iPad. When was the iPad SDK first available? How about Androids or even the iPhones?
It is 6 months out, but MS is shipping a full CTP version of the OS running in a virtual machine. That's pretty impressive IMO. I don't recall any other mobile OS doing that six months prior to ship.
So, Next. A not-so-open letter to HTC suggesting them to have a Palm-HTC merger. That would really be a dream come true.
Thanks Guys, you are the saviors of the smartphone industry. I really mean it.
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I'm having a heck of a time downloading the podcast directly to the iPhone. I've been between computers for a while so I've just been direct downloading the podcast from iTunes. Everything else, including Engadget Mobile seems to work (go fig), but Engadget will make it 3/4 the way through and then iTunes on the phone tells me it encountered a problem and my options are to delete it from the device and try again...and then it fails again.
I'm guessing something in the encoding is upsetting it's tummy? :)
@Balatro yes, we are aware of this problem and are sorry about it. To be honest we are not yet quite sure what's going on and are working on it. Thanks for your patience!!
@tront Ah, thanks kindly, Trent! I just wanted to see if you were aware. I can always pull to USB stick and listen to that in the car for now. On the flip side I love the enhanced AAC features on the iTunes version so it's appreciated to see them there. :)
Regarding that anecdote about reprogramming the back key to perform a different function... So, what are the things that will cause a 3rd party WP7S app - sorry, I meant prog ;) - to be rejected from the Marketplace? What about tethering? Will WP7S phone be able to do tethering out of the box? If not, will Microsoft allow 3rd party tethering apps in the Marketplace?
Yo Trent, you included Ross Miller's twitter, not Chris Ziegler.
Good podcast this week. Love the music.
@patboy2008 @DestrictoEnse thank u
Ziegler nails it on Googles plan with the Nexus One.
Amazing how completely clueless Topolsky comes across here. First he says Google has to put out ads running the N1 against the Droid. WTF? To say something like that and call your self a gadget freak is embarrassingly clueless. He just can't wrap his mind around the idea that the Nexus One exists purely to shake up the industry, not to sell units. Google is fine taking a loss to do this, if they sell enough units to make some money, cool. But THAT IS NOT THEIR GOAL. As is clear from the fact that they are not trying to sell it in any stores, pushing units isn't their goal, changing the landscape is.
Miller seems to get it pretty well too.
Once again, Nilay hates everything.
