Right on cue, just after the
aptly-timed teaser poster, Motorola signs on just the right dotted lines to make its
i1 push-to-talk Android handset official. Let's run through the specs quickly, shall we? A 3.1-inch HVGA (320 x 480) touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and 4x zoom, WiFi, and microSD expansion -- no mention of the processor, so we'll have to find out on our own later. The OS version is 1.5 and,
while there's oddly not a single mention in either the press release of fact sheet, given the official images and unofficial leaks, it's definitely got Motoblur. The browser of choice is Opera Mini 5 with support for Flash 8, and if you're worried about Mother Nature's wrath, the i1 meets Military 810F standards for handling averse weather conditions.
iDEN lovers can pick up the call sometime this summer on Sprint, with price yet to be named.
Update: Motorola's just sent word that the i1 does not have Motoblur, despite the presence of the traditional green call / blue contacts buttons. That begs the question, then, of what exactly defines Motoblur here (is just the Happenings widget missing?), and what Android skin is on the i1 -- the press images here are definitely not showing vanilla 1.5. We're still awaiting a response to that, stay tuned.
Really? Sprint still doesn't get an Android phone with a keyboard?
Samsung Moment.......
This is aimed at Nextel users who want a smart phone but must remain on Nextel for any number of reasons. The other 99.9% of you, keep moving right along. Nextel customers will never get the latest and greatest handsets and we've come to terms with that years ago. This i1 will do fine until another six months down the road when another smart phone for Nextel comes out.
THERE ARE VIDEOS ABOUT THIS COOL PHONE ON YOUTUBE...
I'M BUYING ONE ASAP..
I WAS WISHING FOR A DIRECT-CONNECT TOUCH SCREEN!

Not really interested on the whole push-to-talk feature, but concerning the SHAPE of the phone, I think it's pretty darn nice. Unlike the sharp-cornered Droid, this i1 looks very pocket-able.
It's "Motoblur", it's not meant to be 'defined'. Duh.
Does anyone even CARE about iDen anymore? That technology is one of a long list of technologies that should have been killed years ago.
I did some work for Motorola once as a software engineer and iDen is just as outdated and crap on the inside as it is on the consumer facing outside.
looks nice, id like to get this thing and try it
I'm really really mad at YOU Motorola right now. You give all the good Models like the Cliq to T-Mobile and now this to Sprint? why they keep getting all the good looking Motorola's? I know I'm not getting the Backflip at AT&T cause I'm done with Motorola my last phone with them is the ROKR E8. Every phone you make for AT&T and beyond WILL NEVER GET CAUSE IT WILL LOOK LIKE CRAP. So sorry Motorola won't be buying any more phones from you.
Maybe that's the one that will make me move th Nextel. All my friends are there due the free radio thing. I just hope it's not tied to those abusive "smartphone plans" like the blackberries.
