Motorola's Android-powered i1 launching at CTIA

With CTIA still a day away, we're stoked to have already seen a giant billboard near the convention center confirming the rumored Motorola i1. Of course, billboards rarely offer much insight into the device's specifics, but there is a pretty decent view of the UI and its slogan: "Grab Life by the Calls." As you'd expect, we'll be all over this set just as soon as we can get at one, but in the interim follow on for one more pic after the break that features the i1's poster boy, Mike Rowe of Discovery's Dirty Jobs.

There is hope for the advertisement industry :)
Oh, I will grab life by the calls!
I just hope those calls don't drop.........
*sigh*
wow
@GenericMessage Then don't get it on AT&T's network. =P
@bstump or on Verizon, Sprint, don't leave the USA.
All they wanted to say was... "grab iMoan by the balls"...
@Atkins
If the TV ad features an old guy in a wheelchair saying "if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a call", I might have to buy this phone
Great spokesperson...I suddenly feel like driving an F150 and getting a push-to-talk phone!
@jamo Get your chainsaws, we're gonna go cut a house in half!
"I'LL handle the jokes."
-Mike Rowe
Any hint of a carrier on there? I'm guessing Sprint.
@justinkramp
Boost... I series Motorola devices are IDEN, and usually pushed towards BOOST (Sprint MVNO)
@supernine Could be Boost - wonder if both carriers would launch simultaneously? Seems like a pretty high-end phone for Boost, although they did end up with the 8350i BlackBerry.
@justinkramp answered my own question!

CTIA registration is today, right? - with the actual convention tomorrow? Surely they're setting things up... I think it's about time Engadget consider assembling a ninja team for recon at these conventions. I mean, what else are you gonna do there all day? Get get the jump on some stories. And a handful of Incredibles, Supersonics, and any other sweet thing you can find.
What is "push-to-talk"?
Meaning why is it needed on a mobile? I remember old Nokia's used to have them...
Meaning why is it needed in a mobile? I remember old Nokia's used to have it...
@Almo
It's a walkie talkie like function common with contractors. It allows you communicate with out dialing every time.
@Almo I'm not sure I would want a PTT function, only because I don't want everyone around me to hear what my wife or friends are saying out loud. Yikes. Of course, I suppose I could get a bluetooth headset.
@MacBandit
Oh, got it. Motorola's going after the booming contractors-needing-fragile-glass-covered-devices-in-their-pocket market. That should be huge.
This isn't their first push-to-talk smartphone. Does anyone remember the i930?
@chandler
first push-to-talk TOUCH smartphone
@chandler
first push-to-talk *touch* smartphone
@inertone Whoops. I can't read today.
@chandler
Hooked on Comprehension worked for me!!!!
@chandler
Please don't remind of us of that awful, yet (at-the-time) somewhat sexy, well-built device lol.
it looks much better now than in the earlier leaks. Finally construction workers can get their android satisfaction now tooo
Mike Rowe is awesome. Enough said.
Speaking of Motorola and Android, whatever happened to the Droid give-a-way? Who won? Did anybody win?
Palm needs to hire this ad agency
The only motorola i remember being popular here in southafrica was the razr, now its pretty much dead here..
Digging the slogan
come on down motorola, the former heavy weight of numerous eras and techs is back in the ring.
Always had a soft spot for Moto, 68k chips kicked Intel butt back in the day. Then the brave Fail that was Iridium. two fine engineering example of a gutsy American legend
the ad is great they need to mount that add on that wall better though
seriously dislike stock android...that tab is so ugly and in the way!
which is why im getting the incredible...the n1 stock is nice though...
SENSE FTW!! :)
@aleis I think you are kind of ignoring the fact that its easy (and free) the look if you don't like it.
@PerryAJ ....to change* the look...
@aleis
This looks like Blur though.
@PerryAJ
true dat :)
@sfox8
no it doesnt.
@PerryAJ I didn’t realize I could buy the iPhone OS, or WebOS, and put it on devices :P
@aleis Yes it is http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/05/motorola-i1-weve-seen-it-and-itll-likely-be-out-soon/ -_-
@NYNY
but he said "looks like blur" but...it doesnt.
@aleis That's Blur. Stock Android 2.1 has the 3D Launcher that I prefer over Sense. Even Android 2.0's slim gray launcher looks great. I don't like Blur's though, but Blur is still based on 1.5. Motorola promised an update to 2.1 for all Blur devices and I'm sure the launcher will also change when that happens.
@Atkins
It's not the First Push To Talk smartphone
@Atkins
sorry,
never mind... keyword TOUCH... EDIT BUTTON please!
another boring motoblur phone :(
Am I the only one who thinks mike rowe is a smug asshole?
@yuppiescum yep.
@yuppiescum Pretty much so.
@yuppiescum Am I the only one who thinks yuppiescum is a sumg asshole?
