Samsung's Super AMOLED-packin' Wave S8500 priced in Germany: €429
Samsung's world-beater -- you know, that Wave S8500 that debuted back at Mobile World Congress -- was revealed without one of the most vital statistics, but that's being remedied today courtesy of a product listing over at Amazon's German portal. The Bada-equipped device, complete with a Super AMOLED display that's supposedly viewable in broad daylight, has found a €429 MSRP across the pond, which equates to around $579 using today's highly volatile exchange rates. Granted, that's a contract-free (read: unsubsidized) price, but we're still going to hold out for a late-night session with the new OS before pinging our importer. Plus, those funky European AC adapters do nothing at all for us. Sorry.
Update: Looks like some other German outlets have it priced even lower. Huzzah!

Hi there from Germany.
That is the price for a contract-free unit. Else it would be stated, that a contract is included.
@Tomatensaft Bada-Bing Bada-Booooooooo
@Tomatensaft That's an super price for this SAMOLED unlocked. I wonder how they'll treat the market in SK.
the price sounds reasonable.
SE / HTC - please take note
I hope it's bada**
$150 less than N1 or Desire, hhmm...
@Paullll
The N1 is $530, so it's $49 more.
@andthemaniam
N1 is $700. We are talking about Europe here.
@andthemaniam
Trans-Atlantic Price benchmark rule #1 : you don't compare prices across the Atlantic.
the N1 is 560euros(in France) and there isn't any "legit" way to get it, so this is really cheaper.

badapp?
@commenter7 Well, not exactly... (otherwise I wouldn't censor it)
@Atkins don't worry, I got it ; )
Holy crap, the Euro has dropped that much? Seems like just a couple months ago that it was worth fully double the US dollar.
@Atkins
Bada makes me weep for the future of humanity.
If they could swap Bada for Andoird will be perfect phone.
@techlord there is the upcoming i8520 Beam, which has Android and a 8MP camera, plus the projector - and the interesting thing is not the projector itself, but the fact that for this reason they had to stick a better battery inside - 1800 mA, the benefits of which we can enjoy even without using the projector.
The only downside for i8520 is that it is not as thin as Wave... This thing here is really thin and sexy.
But I think I'm going to wait for the Beam.
So is Samsung selling super AMOLED displays to other cellphone makers, like HTC? Please?
That screen is super-sweet. Too bad I wouldn't touch a Samsung phone with a ten-foot (or 3.05 meter) pole.
Honestly the only nice Samsung handset I ever owned *currently* is the moment. Its plain Jane looks make it bearable and thank god *or who ever you believe in* Samsung didn't muck it up with their TouchWiz nonsense. I'm not saying Bada was a bad move on their part but I think it's just to soon, just my $.02.
Sent from my 2.1-less Samsung Moment =[
excuse me while I go weep.
Bada? Who cares?
If Palm can't do it, why the heck does Samsung think they can push their crappy featurephone / barely-smart smartphone OS?
Just stick to selling the screens, not putting them in your own hardware please.
@Johnny Rockets Maybe because they are the #2 cell phone manufacturer, have the largest market share of cell phones in the US, have a more beautiful screen on a cheaper device that is cheaper than the top players it's trying to compete with. Plus, they are taking this phone more global than Palm did with its fail circus.
@Johnny Rockets
Just to clear the air surrounding Bada -- from what I've gathered, it's not actually an OS in and of itself. It's basically an upgraded version of TouchWiz. It DOES have a selection of "core features" but in the future, it will sit on top of Android/Symbian/WhateverElse.
That said, I don't believe this phone is equipped with any underlying SmartphoneOS. So, this phone probably isn't for you, but others may be in the future.
(My info comes from a few informed posts by Eldar over at mobile-review, in case you were wondering)
Will attempt to get my hands on one of those, as an early adopter of samsung cellphones, hadware-wise they never dissapoint! still remember when the D900 blew everything out of the water... 30fps 720p recording... just can't believe they still don't put HDMI output on this monster
I'm going to get me one of those!
Oh, wait... BADA? Guess not...
what OS is this running?
@jawman Fortunately not iPhone OS
Can't say I'm normally smitten with Samsung mobiles. Though this time, I can definitely say I would buy a Samsung S8500. Here's to Rogers/Bell/Telus/ or Fido bringin em to Canada. Cheers - Ravi Shanghavi
