Viliv S10 Blade gets reviewed, Best Buy now selling Viliv devices
The folks at UMPC Portal have already treated us to an unboxing of Viliv's new S10 Blade convertible netbook, but they're now back with a full review that gives a better picture of the device. On the whole, they seem to be fairly impressed with the device, noting its thin and sleek design, and its "silent, rugged operation." They were also pleasantly surprised by the battery life, which clocked in at an impressive 7.5hrs with WiFi on during general use. On the downside, the resistive multitouch screen wasn't quite as responsive as they would have liked, and there are a few other minor annoyances -- like the lack of a button to rotate the screen in tablet mode, no mic input or Ethernet port, and some fairly lackluster built-in speakers. In other Viliv news, it looks like none other than Best Buy has recently started carrying the company's devices (online, at least), although it doesn't yet have the S10 up for order.

Why does every netbook ALWAYS have something missing.. that otherwise would make it awesome? In this case, no mic or ethernet or that button for screenrotation.
It baffles me..
@Neosubu
Missing things like USB ports, a webcam, Flash support, and multitasking?
...oh wait...
To be honest, no mic input (just use a USB-headset if you need to) and no ethernet port (how often would you *really* use that anyway, nowadays?) seem fairly minor.
The lack of a simple screen rotation mechanism is probably annoying though (can't really tell as I've never owned a convertible)...but at the worst, a taskbar shortcut could at least somewhat replace it as well, I guess.
I wouldn't call any of these things dealbreakers...
bring them to the store, i wanna test before i buy
How much?
Best Buy has most of the Viliv lineup in the "Best Buy Mobile" stores. Along with things like Archos tablets.
NOT the in-store Best Buy Mobile, but the stand-alone ones (like at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg).
At first glance I thought this is a Thinkpad tablet KIRF, Lenovo press shots are always taken from this angle.
@hmmwv
Or could it be that the S10 model name was swiped right from the Lenovo IdeaPad lineup?
No ethernet port? THIS IS MADNESS!
@Faceless Troll THIS IS VILIV!!!
@NYNY
This is Sparta!!!! ?
you forgot the worst part
1GB of RAM, not upgradeable
no matter how fantastic this machine is,
running win 7 with 1GB of RAM.. a piece of trash it turns out to be
@(Unverified) Running android on it could be interesting.
Best Buy introducing the common man to slate PCs?
Blade? Blade??
Why not call it a mainframe if you're going to start using names that are already used for other types of computers?
@gepeto
The existence of blade servers are not common knowledge so can't see how anyone could mix those two up. A sentence like "I took my blade with me to Starbucks" is clear enough. Unless you have both a truck and work as sysadmin for said company.
Can a palm rejection feature be added to this via software?
I dont understand how you could have a multitouch screen and a pen but no palm rejection. It makes using the pen basically pointless.
It doesnt have a mic port, but it does have an inbuilt microphone right?
An 12.1" HP TM2 can probably be found for a price competitive to this now, since the TX2 is out. And it has an ethernet port, a screen rotation button, etc. Will weigh a bit more than the netbook hardware, though.
