We just spent a few fleeting moments with
AT&T's just-announced Pre Plus and Pixi Plus from Palm, and they're pretty much exactly what you'd expect: GSM remixes of the models available on Verizon (we weren't allowed to take a peek at the SIM slots, but rest assured, there's an AT&T carrier logo up there at the top left). Both devices seemed relatively zippy -- yes, even the Pixi -- though that can naturally change pretty quickly once you've got a few cards chugging away. We were delighted to see that Palm loaded our very own Engadget app on their demo devices -- a good way for booth stoppers-by to catch up on show news, eh? Check out the gallery below, and keep an eye out for more coverage throughout the day!
great for AT&T and for Palm, because on AT&T you can talk and use data at the same time! unlike the CDMA crap of Verizon and Sprint. AT&T FOR LIFE!! (coming from a proud iPhone 3G user)
@deepen03 That's not the case anymore. "it sounds like concurrent data and voice use might be possible for the first time on CDMA carrier in this way (killing AT&T's well-advertised differentiator), though Sprint says that's still in the testing phase". read the EVO article.
@alextek yea they are still in testing while AT&T has had the Technologoy for almost 3 years... talk about behind.. I think i'll stick to my iPhone and AT&T forever...
I'm looking forward to this Pre + GSM version. Gonna have it as my personal phone. Don't care about the lag or any of the stuff. I just wan't my webOS fix !
I gotta say that the only scary thing I've seen from pics is the OS info. Configuration is ATT1.0
Hopefully that just means the standard add ons like Navigator.
iám so happy gaved my iphone away for free to a friend. and grap that pre umts phone with webos. jeah. it´s unbelievable that possibilities to configure that phone for my personal needs.
i dont need 10000000000apps and don´t miss the apple remote.
but i love my macbookpro.
When will I be able to unlock this thing (the Pre) for my T-Mobile network? And when will this thing (the Pre) be back on Sprint?! I WANT THE PRE PLUS WITHOUT AT&T OR VERIZON!
It seem like, lots of Android fan-boys here. I'm you're a hater, & want to down-grade webOS, go away & blog on your Android forum. We don't need no hear this whinny about the preplus,& pixiplus. When flash 10.1 beta hits webOS, it wouldn't matter how small the screen is. It's the Flash contents of the web will draw people to the pre&pixi. Remember, the iphone is not getting Flash, so At&t will be getting a new or different customers, that doesn't complete with apple. Different form factors,& Flash will be the key to success for the pre& pixi on At&t.
Pardon my grammar, a lots of typos was in my last comment. I was typing really fast, but never had chance to edit my comment. Anyway, the Preplus,& Pixiplus will do well on At&t, because it will sooner & later will be the only device on their network, with Flash 10.1. Remember iphone doesn't do Flash, & those people who wish for Flash, will just on webOS in a heartbeat. Flash brings the web contents uncensus on your pre. Now,those naughty porn-sites,& Flash base game, & real complex Flash sites will be in your palm.
So if the announced the Palm pre+ and pixi+ for AT&T, does that mean the rumored Elan must be a separate phone?
I really hope so.
If they have the wifi hot spot functionality on there for free, I'm on board. Probably won't though. Stupid part is, they could get $30/mo out of me, when I only pay $10/mo now with my unlocked Nokia, and I get a 3G wifi hotspot for the $10.
