BlueAnt intros rugged T1 Bluetooth headset, sophisticated Android app
BlueAnt's been slinking along in the shadows of the (thankfully) dwindling Bluetooth headset market for years now, and aside from that one voice-controlled V1 that popped two years ago, we haven't seen much from the outfit that really got our juices flowing. Until today, naturally. The rugged, May-bound T1 headset ($79.99) doesn't look drastically different (or smaller) than the aforesaid V1, but it's the firm's first to feature Wind Armour Technology -- something that's engineered to "deliver clear audio in wind speeds up to 22mph." It's also built to withstand the occasional drop and bout with dust / moisture, and in case that's not enough, it'll also audibly announce who's calling so long as they're in your address book. As you'd expect, A2DP streaming audio is fully supported, as is multipoint (which allows it to remain connected to two phones at once and respond to whichever rings first). In related news, the company also announced its new Q1 app for Android (due April 1st), which helps Q1 headset users by reading text messages aloud to you via a presumably flawed text-to-speech system. Hit up the source links for the fully skinny on each, or just hop on past the break for a pair of superbly informative videos.

Put the blue ant in you ear and let the android handle the rest.
@pachi72 text-to-speech would probably require something that Apple doesn't allow developers to touch. Don't hate the player, hate the game (Apple's).
I've never wanted a BT headset and I don't have an Android. But me want, and Android has a better shot than any mobile OS at getting my business.
Looks like a cool app.
Btw, where is the Engadget app for Android?
@KennyR Oh no he didnt! lol man I stopped looking for that thing. Download "tech time" from the market. It gets the job done.
@ThatDudeSolo lol, I figured why not ask in this post. Cool, I'll check it out Thanks.
Wonder if the blueant app will allow you to voice dial..
@dreylon I was just going to post that same question. That is one of the biggest shortcomings in Android for me is the lack of dial by name and number via the BT headset.
" In related news, the company also announced its new Q1 app for Android (due April 1st), which helps Q1 headset users by reading text messages aloud to you via a presumably flawed text-to-speech system"
Wow, way to judge before you've even used the thing. Awful reporting. Certainly there's going to be flaws in every TTS system. I've found Androids TTS pretty good and helpful at times.
And where is the Engadget Android app....I've been dying to get ahold of it!!!
@jamiehuson
The Engadget Android app isn't here yet because it's "presumably flawed".
@ChazClout In related news, comment system still in place, presumably very flawed.
Dying? Here in California they are required for driving. Probably elsewhere as well. Also have another in the house for gaming on the PS3.
@feepness
Wow, Cali drivers are now *required* to talk on their cell phones whilst driving!? Well now that I think about it, not too surprising really.
Glad I dont live anywhere near there.
@DigDug
It's the text messaging requirement that really bugs me.
@pachi72
No, Apple doesn't have to get everything.
A2DP via only one ear piece?
@raaaaaa Exactly. Engadget needs to start reading wikipedia
@raaaaaa My (now broken after much usage) Jabra BT8040 had A2DP and was only a single ear piece like this. I used it quite often for listening to music from my iPhone. This was great while I was working so I could still hear my coworkers in the other ear.
@ady Umm, Wikipedia doesn't say A2DP cannot work with a single ear piece. It's just a streaming audio profile for bluetooth.
@raaaaaa I believe A2DP is just another way of saying AADP. A2DP is really just saying that the headset support music-listening capabilities. There are a few mono headsets that have this feature.
@juanvaldez
Why do people feel the need to just make up shit about Apple? Third-party text-to-speech has been available on iPhone for years, ignoramus.
Hopefully it will let you dial by name via BT headset. Until someone gets that working on Android, I'll stick with my old WM6.5 w/ Voice Command and wait for WP7S before purchasing a new phone. I'd consider the lack of BT dialing in Android an even bigger mistake than lack of copy and paste in WP7S (although I still think copy and paste is an obviously needed function).
@tonicboy Perhaps it's similar to why people turn speculation into "made up" facts.
@juanvaldez
No, speculation is when you try to guess about something, preferably using available evidence. What you did was just plain old making shit up to for no other reason than to bad-mouth Apple.
Here, let me try it on you and you tell me if I'm speculating or making shit up: Juan Valdez would probably felate himself every night if he could.
So it appears that the cost of looking like a fracking dork is now an affordable $79.99.
@pachi72
I wonder if it can read text messages as well, that would be completely awesome, Its one of the main features thats keeping me on WinMO
I'm interested in this. My A2DP Jabra BT8010 is nearing the end if its lifespan, and I would like to get something new.
