The Engadget Show - 007: Nicholas Negroponte, PlayStation Move exclusive demos, Dr. Richard Marks, Joystiq's Chris Grant, and more!
Well kids, this was one for the record books. If you didn't catch the live stream of the show (or you weren't there in person), here's your chance to get in on the action. On one of our biggest shows ever, Josh sits down with visionary technologist (and the man behind the OLPC project and MIT's Media Lab, amongst others) Nicholas Negroponte for a chat, tries to figure out why we can't get train schedules on our phones with new correspondent Rick Karr, and Paul and Chris Grant grill Dr. Richard Marks about the PlayStation Move. Oh, and it's not just talking -- we demo the Move in-person, even checking out some never-before-seen demos Sony has whipped up. All that, and music from minusbaby and visuals from notendo. Did we mention the hundreds of giveaways? No? Okay... just watch the thing!

about time!
@Andrew M true dat
@Andrew M Yeah, really! took 3 days just to get it out! well, happy its here anyway.
@Andrew M
3 days to get it uploaded. I'm sure they could've got it up much quicker. The wait was irritating as I missed the live show.
Oh well.
@AnimaOnline We shoot at 1080p and the file sizes get to be enormous... it takes a long time to crunch all those bits!
@Chad Mumm So where's the 1080p download option? Torrents & magnet links also accepted :-)
Bond. James Bond.
Finally, I hate waiting 3 days for the download version link, but happy its here now
cannot wait to see myself at the show!
such a narcissist aren't I!
@newjaruz Likewise there partner !!
HEY GUYS If your name is Tatiana and you sat next to me please reply to me. I'm so upset because I made a new friend and then lost track of her.
Tatiana I stood and sat next to you both on the line and once in the venue.
@Ysleiro
Looks like someone's enlove.
Did you get in touch with her dude?
Gotta score that phone number can't let them slip away.
any one else downloading the high def one have it freezing at 25:05 in? can't get it to play in quicktime and it crashes vlc when it gets past that point
@solarmoo900
no problem at my end. i'm using quicktime on snow leopard.
@14:03 Nicholas Negroponte is mentioning some paper written by "nicolas christoh". Does anyone know the title of the article/paper he's talking about? thx
The show just keeps looking more pro every episode. Great work guys. It almost feels like a real TV talk show, I could easily imagine it on a network, though maybe that's where the magic would be lost.
@unimark It's for you guys!
Why are those guys holding mini-penises and touching their iPhones with them?
Does Negroponte remind anyone else of Mark Hamill?
@marcomera I said the exact same thing from the control room at the show. I'd say after meeting him that Negroponte may be at least half Jedi.
@Chad Mumm
Nice :) Although I wonder what kind of powers a half Jedi has. Would one at least be able to open beer bottles with The Force?
You are finally sitting on the correct side of the stage! You have calmed my OCD for now... thanks Joshua...
@Jonas P
Is it weird that I said 'thanks Joshua' like I actually know you when I have only ever seen you on a screen? lol
please please please
FOR US APPLE & MICROSOFT HATERS

@chongox Actually, if you download the Engadget Android app you can watch the show in its full, Android-lovin' goodness! Huzzah!
@chongox Just use the iPod format. It works on my Droid and PSP.
@Chad Mumm
There's an Android app out!? Where!?
@chongox Chad is just excited for the launch. This week. Woo!
@ai4281

but on android was my fault i was using ASTRo file manager to watch and never recognize the format, today i tried again and WORKS but definetly not in my psp. [SAD FACE]
Thanks, chad Mumm & ai4281
paraphrasing josh " now i can watch the show in bed without being in front of my computer" =P
did not know the android PROG is out MUST get it on my phone
@Joshua Topolsky
just checked the market and could not find the PROG
was kind of relief, imagine the PROG is out and a rabid fanboy like me don't know about , that would be embarrasing.
Any plans to "make" another PROG ? I would love to have kind of soundboard with catchfrases from you guys.
ie BEATIFULL DOWNTOWN LAST VEGAS
ARE YOU HIGH & DRUNK ?
that would be a dream
@Joshua Topolsky
It's official folks! It's coming this week! Yessss!
Ok, now im thinking the move is pretty cool!
I think you may need a pretty big room... Maybe my Japanese room is too small!
I'm sure one of the guys who played James Bond in the past are tech nerds in some way, one of them should have been present for the 007 episode.
Negroponte looks very young even though he was born in the 40's... I guess staying cutting edge keep you from aging.
Fantastic show. Well produced (especially the negroponte segment).
Great light, great stage set, but above all, great content.
Well done Joshua on your best interview yet imho.
retweeted the show link, you guys deserve it.
cya guys at the podcast ustream chat madness.
When Josh repeats something Nicholas has written down back to him, all I can hear is Nicholas going 'mmhmmm, mhhmmm, yep, uh huh, yuh, mhmm, uh huh, yeh uh, mhhm'
Can anyone else hear it? IT DROVE ME CRAZY!
Wow Fantastic Show guys - Definitely going to get the Playstation Move
Thanks Engadget, excelent show.
Only thing I didnt like was the music at the end, Horrible, why dont you get real bands, something similar to Radiohead?
The move was better then I thought. I was surprised. I'd like to see it with a real game though.
What did you guys give away to people?
What's up with the episodes (downloadable mp4, not hd) resolution? Though the filename says 640, the resolution for the last two episodes (006 and 007) is only 480x270. Bring back 640x360!
Fantastic episode. Nicholas Negroponte seems to be very switched onto the digital world, fantastic to see such a person doing such good work.
As for the Move.... WOW. The tech demos are fantastic, what a capable device. And how generous are Sony, lucky NY folk getting to be there. Thank you all at the Engadget show for the great work you do.
Another excellent show guys.
I think you need an extra camera for the demo part, we missed some of the action which is annoying.
I was on the fence about the Move, but now it's a definite buy for me. At least, if there are enough hardcore games that will support it as an underlying function.
On the bus tracking,
Here at the University of Michigan we have a system called Magicbus. It does exactly what they talk about perfectly. All the U-M buses have GPS modules and you can access the service from a website, through text message, or on a couple different iphone apps. The data is open so anyone can use it too. It is a real lifesaver sometimes
Heyhey, Nicholas Negroponte pre-ordered an iPad.
..reading in bed does actually does provide a use for it.
I love the show guys, but please, can you do something about the volume? I have to crank it every time just to hear it.
