they say "instant" to many times in that
@h0rk **buffering**
@h0rk Yeah, and you should have said, "too many times." Personally, the overuse of the word instant didn't bother me, that did.
@h0rk
only about 9.6% of the words were "instant", but i didn't instantly notice that. after reading your comment i instantly counted the number of times "instant" showed up and instantly opened my calculator and it calculated that in an instant

@h0rk
Instant as in the instant you get off your butt and go pop in the disc.
Wii - 0
PS3 - 0
XBOX - 1
@DaveBach
Yeah... and with Xbox, you have to pay for a Gold Membership to get that. I'd rather have to have a disc for 6 more months (thats around what Sony said, right?) than pay $40 a year.
@h0rk wow finally the wii cant play movies and still lack the ability out of the box :P
@j2daake
j2daake you make a good point about the need for the gold live membership on the XBOX to gain access to the Netflix content. Never thought about that since I've always had a live account with the system. Are there really that many XBOX 360 owners out there that don't have a gold live membership? I'd be interested in seeing the numbers.
@h0rk If I got Netflix at the cheapest package, could I get both a PS3 disc *and* a Wii disc? Or is it either or? I could get 1 movie at a time, watch instantly with the wife and let the kids watch instantly in their room if so...
@DaveBach if I hadn't got a deal on a Live Messenger kit for $20 with the chatpad, PGR, headset, and 12 months of Gold......I would still be silver....was silver for a year....will most likely be silver again in a year with my year runs out...I use my PS3 for my main console so I dont have a need for gold.....if I wasnt in the market for that chatpad I wouldnt have even bothered....even at that price

Time to resume that subscription that's been on hold for a couple years. Looking forward to it!
@cdsfire i think this just tipped the scales. i have to sign up for Netflix now. now that the Wii supports it i have a device on every TV that is Netflix capable.
Can't wait for my disc to arrive
And that makes three. Now all three major game systems can use netflix.
Good deal!
Hopfully Netflix on the Wii will be as fast as the 360. The Netflix on the Ps3 is slow in comparison to the 360. I know because I have tested both.
@mad0maxx It's not by much, your talking maybe a second or so longer to buffer an HD stream. Most anything on my 360 starts almost instantly after the buffer screen hits, the PS3 takes maybe a second or two longer to start after the buffer screen shows. Same for the menu navigation, I don't see it as a huge difference between the two.
@KAL326 What you have to take into consideration is what if you want to view a movie you already watched half way through or if you want to view parts of a movie you say are awesome. On the 360 you pulled up the movie and you can fast forward through the clips easily while on the 360 when you fast forward the pictures that show you where you are in the movie will not show up for a good 1+ minute! To me that is way slow when considering the 360 is instantly there. As for the movie playback the Ps3 is a tad slower but not dramatically.

On the 360 you can fast forward through the movie while it shows you a picture of the particular spot in the movie like a slide show. On the Ps3 when you fast forward, the pictures will not show up for a good 1+ minute!

Sorry for all the grammatical errors making it impossible to read! I am no english major.
@mad0maxx "On the Ps3 when you fast forward, the pictures will not show up for a good 1+ minute!"
Something is wrong with your PS3. I get the pictures instantly.
I hope d enjoys his or her netflix instant streaming. That's a pretty epic name.
Can the PS3 do it in the states too? Need to get it up and running here in Ireland too ;-)
@markmoran the PS3 has had the same kind of disc for a few months now. The UI isn't as polished as the XBOX version.
@ranhalt Cheers mate. Are you in the states? I wonder if it will ever come to Ireland? Is the content 1080p?
I don't see where to request the disc in Netflix. Add a link to it?
@ranhalt Go to the bottom of the page in Netflix... "Watch instantly on my tv"
@CatAlvarez http://www.netflix.com/wii
As its probably using netflix's servers and not nintendos i cant see why there would be any issues. should be like streaming a 480p video off the net. the only thing that can slow it down is there servers or your own internet connection. the wii itself is just displaying the video on screen.
Now they need to make it available for Linux
@maxim We live in hope :)
@maxim
Agreed. But that isn't likely to happen. If you have a windows box anywhere on your network, try setting up PlayOn and you can play Netflix on your Linux box served from the windows PC. Not ideal, but it really does work pretty well.
Can't wait to get the disc tomorrow. Maybe now I'll actually use my Wii.
Getting mine tomorrow as well. Already have a 360, but I have the Wii hooked up to another TV.
Got my PS3 disc on day 1 and just got my email for the Wii disc today too :) the kids will be happy as hell!
Wii need our disks this instant!
Any way to get this for Europe concretely Spain?
No email or disc yet :( I joined NF a few weeks ago and checked off the box that said to notify me when NF was available on the Wii.
They seriously couldn't have just released it as a Channel through the Wii Shop Channel?
@aschettler MS has an exclusivity deal for built-in netflix for another 6 months or so. After that we might see it built in for PS3 or Wii if they have enough demand to do the extra development.
I wish they do a firmware apdate to the ps3 so I wouldn'n need the disc, like the 360. Come on Sony what are you waiting for
i just want to know why this was posted on engadgetHD.... this is about as far from an HD relevant story as it gets.
Wow Engadget has no investigation skills. If you go to Neflix's blog you'll find out that there only sending out disks to a few Netflix members as a test launch. So many of you won't get the disk just yet.

I just read an article at sewelldirect.com that Netflix will look better with component cable. Anybody know if upping the definition from 480i to 480p is worth it?
http://sewelldirect.com/articles/maximize-netflix-with-wii-component-cable.aspx
@gaddio yea 480p is worth it.....I mean having the screen filled without having to stretch the picture is always worth it....not to mention that it is a noticeable difference....to me anyways
Is this substantially different than how I current watch Netflix on my Wii: using Internet Channel to access a local PlayOn server that is plugged in to my Netflix, Hulu & Youtube accounts?
I haven't done a comparison, but the picture quality of Netflix on the Wii through PlayOn is not great, but I don't know if that's a Wii limitation, or because I'm using the Internet channel, or if the one or two videos we've watched that way were just crap.
@dorrk Yes, it should be.
