They need to announce something about my Samsung Moment...shit is kinda ridiculous now. I totally understand that it is the carriers decision to allow when the update comes in for a particular device, and I can even somewhat agree that I bought my device at 1.5 so getting 2.1 will be more of a privilege but damn, there is not much rooting action going on for this device at all.
All android phones just just be on 2.1 or what ever major update within a few months of each other. just my 2cents

You can root your Moment, there's just not much in the way of hacks getting you 2.1 ahead of the official release.
So what happened to the supposedly confirmed dates released last week that said (in the UK) that vanilla Heros would get the 2.1 update April 2nd and network versions (T-mobile, Orange) April 16th.
I'm pretty excited for the update. It'll give me a little preview of what to expect on the EVO 4G, and then I'll have more to discover once the aforementioned device releases. I just got my tax return and half if it us set aside for the EVO 4G.
@KidRobotXXIV Yeah, I bought the hero the day presales started. It's a great phone, just lacks enough horsepower to make me know I'm upgrading. I was planning to wait until next year figuring it would be until then that they'd release a 4g beast...but hey, why wait?
Wonder what the price will be? As most of us Hero users are in contract, but on Everything Data plans, we get a 1 year upgrade credit instead of every two. Wonder if they'll cut us some deal since we're obviously the early adopters they need to push the phone out? Wonder what it'll run subsidized? With $199 as the price ceiling for most phones, I still can't imagine them selling it for that cheap. I'm sure it'll be $249 subsidized when it comes out.
@INsano Your price range theory is about what I'm guessing. My one year upgrade will be available in August, but even then I have enough set aside to purchase an EVO unsubsidized if it's released before then.
The title makes next to no sense
The title makes next to no sense, it's like backwards.
Yep 2.1 is faster on hero been using a legend build on mine for last month or so thank to villain Rom on xda by @nprussell
I just bought my Hero and if I have to wait until the 26th of APRIL for 2.1, then I'm taking it back and waiting until June 6th for the EVO 4G with 2.1 built in (and of course all of the other goodies).
It really shouldn't take this long....
I WOULD'VE waited for that, take your hero back while you still have a chance
Ready for the update.
Love the evo but I will wait.
Till its successor.
Hate having the first round phone.
Any word on an upgrade for the Samsung moment?
I am a Hero user, but I have a relative who owns a Moment.
I'm glad it is finally here!
@IDuPree I doubt our moments will see 2.1 anytime soon by the time we see one. I'd already have have enough cash for the EVO upon release...hell I might even swing for the Nexus one when ever it gets here.
so how come motorola and google and android can rollout updates to overseas milestones and other phones but cant seem to do the same in the usa?
Oh-no you didn't, engadget, Taiwan is not a COUNTRY....beware of commie hackers
Tai Wan is not a country.
Do not want to see engadget and engadget CN being banned in China Mainland....
I got mine in July. Since then, Orange UK acquired the iPhone - it's taken a lot of willpower not to go for it.
The prospect of a 2.1 update has kept me hanging on, but every time the update is pushed back, I seem to notice how slow my Hero is... I can't believe it'll be another month, now...
Sadly the hardware standard went quite high with the droid and nexus 1 too fast for the ex-flagship Hero, causing HTC to focus on the releases of desire, incredible and such. I just may buy a nexus instead.
Too late, already ditched my hero for a HD2...
I bought my hero in February simply because I was told it would be upgraded to 2.1 "soon". Now that the announcement of the HTC evo will be coming out this summer... I say so long hero and hello evo.
That's ONE MORE MONTH... you're not the only one thinking it.
And not that I feel entitled to demand (let's not forget HTC never made any promises), but is it just me or is this eternal waiting game getting ridiculous to the point that is even worse than Ryan Seacrest's teasing techniques?
