Pre-order iPad now, wait until April 12th for delivery
Consider this a friendly public service announcement care of our friends at TUAW. Those who coveted the iPad and pre-ordered anytime before today can still apparently expect a delivery by the original April 3rd launch date. Anyone that orders a WiFi model today, however, can expect to wait a little over a week, April 12th, to get an Apple tablet of his or her own, while the 3G-equipped units are guesstimated for late April. Have patience -- on the bright side, that gives more time to see apps that justify your larger-screen iPhone purchase.

@think before you react
WP7 didn't get as much iPad coverage which is why you didnt bitch fanboy.
I'll be sure not to do that.
@Nitesh Good for you?
So much for failure so many of you have been wishing for.
@Nitesh
Im guessing apple will try to form a artificial shortage, like they do with every new product.
At least some actors will get work as a standin in apple store queues.
@newone
With what product did Apple create an artificial shortage?
@Nitesh
Just get over it already, I don't necessarily love the idea of the iPad either, If you don't like it then you're not Apple's target with this product, its that simple! I know for a fact I'm not Apple's target in this specific product because its not very appealing to me, But I'm dealing with it, so for everyone still bitching about how they dislike the iPad just shut up and deal with it too. Jeez.
iPad = iFail
sent from my iTouch
@Colrath To be fair to the naysayers we can't really make comment on this as a success because we lack information about how many they made. If they have produced 1 million units and sold or reserved all of them sight unseen then that could be deemed a success. particularly if all the reservations are picked up on launch day and there's no massive returns after folks get a day or two with this thing.
if they only made 1000, not so successful.
same if they have a huge blowout and then nothing after because folks get their hands on the device and realize that it sucks and don't buy.
So perhaps the best move is to wait and see actual sales numbers before we call this anything
@newone
to all haters,
how about..
if u can't beat us, join us
face the fact - iPhone is a success, so will the iPad.
@iluvms I'm not aware of a product called "iTouch". Was that a KIRF item last week?
@Nitesh - Here come the iPad lovers!
@iluvms
I hate when people call it iTouch.
@Article Hold back a little bit on the iPad posts, please. Youre losing me. Seriously
@Jesper Come back in two months and I guarantee it'll all be okay.
@hbueain:
Well with your standards:
Windows XP was a success, shouldn't Windows Vista have been a success?
Leopard was a success, shouldn't Snow Leopard have been a success?
Just because a company made one good product, doesn't automatically make the next product they make good. iPad is not good, people will still buy it, it will sell lots, but it's a terrible device. Locked down, proprietary, basically can only get programs and content through Apple - terrible, terrible device.
I liken the iPad to a Wal-Mart Super Center. Sure, you can get most things you need from it, but when you're only buying those things from one place (in this case, Apple), then only bad and evil can come from it.
@Nitesh It's alright. Not everyone can afford one.
@Iflyplanes Well I hate it when people call it an iPod as it do so much more than a regular iPod.
I wonder why Apple did not call iPhone as Apple iPod Phone ;)
@Iflyplanes Why, is that what they called you at school?
@Techno1q
People can't help it, myself included. Been waiting for a tablet computer from Apple from years now. Hopefully the iPad product line will evolve into the OSX tablet we've been waiting for.
@DonkeyPuncherello
The iPad does run OS X, in case you've never read about the iPhone OS.
@Nitesh
Cool. Now I can watch my movies in low def with huge black bars on a non-widescreen.
iFail
@Sean Parker
ZING
@Sean Parker The ipad run a crippled OS based on OS X, in case u never read about iPhone OS.
*native OS X apps not supported.
@Sean Parker iPad run a crippled OS based on OS X. Native OS X apps r not supported, in case u' ve never read about iPhone OS.
@NextGen Sorry for the double post.waited 5 min and wasn't able to see my first comment using engadget app for iPhone (don't know if it's related) so I sent the 2nd comment, and saw the 2 comments using mobile safari about 2 min after sendind the 2nd.
@Colrath not sure about the others, but not everybody just wish apple's or ipad's failure without reason.
here is a good one.
in the mid 90's computer manufacturers anticipated the fact that a lowering in prices will allow them to sell more, and this was welcomed as it opened the possibility to democratize computers and have every household with one.
the iphone and ipad, by being a success of marketing giove the following message to all content providers: "people are happy and crave for a computing experience where everything is locked to one device, costs more than the physical equivalent, and will need to be paid for again when moving to another device"
just look at the excitement of the news industry, it's like a crowd of virgins seeing their first hairy chest.
I do not like that idea of everything needing to be paid for. and from Mobile, it is just a short step to internet. where your ISP will charge for the contents and redistribute to the content owners.
AOL model was done, so I thought.
@iluvms
Because they would be microsoft then...
@D1Only1 How is everything locked to one device, and will need to be paid for again when moving to another device? With iPhone OS, you buy something once, and it can then be installed on unlimited devices. As long as the device runs iPhone OS, you never have to buy it again, you just sync up your new device. For example, if I buy Dungeon Solitaire on iPhone now, then in a week buy an iPad, I can sync up and then play Dungeon Solitaire on my iPad. And then if the developer updates the game to be a universal iPad app, then it'll be even better for iPad, without costing me one cent more. If you are complaining about everything being made for one OS, then you might as well complain about Windows, that's even worse.
And as for being "more expensive" than the "physical equivalent", which exact equivalent are you talking about? Name one tablet PC that's cheaper with the exact same specs? OK, name a laptop with the same specs that's cheaper, though that's not really equivalent. Oh, are you talking about netbooks? There are very few netbooks as powerful as the iPad (once you account for how slow Windows actually runs on a netbook), let alone cheaper than the iPad.
@Colrath Angry, deluded haters. The iPad is already the computing product of the year and they still don't get it. Google iPad hits just keep going up.
The iPad haters are going to have to run around to find a competitor's product they can use while the rest of the world carries iPads. It's tough being a rebel.
@HighestRanked2:
You're only pissed off because I pointed out a fact about the iPhone, iPod touch, and the iPad. Apple's iTunes/App store is like shopping at a Wal-Mart Super Center. It's true, Apple can be compared to Wal-Mart in this regard and you don't like that. For those who missed the comparison:
"I liken the iPad to a Wal-Mart Super Center. Sure, you can get most things you need from it, but when you're only buying those things from one place (in this case, Apple), then only bad and evil can come from it."
Don't try and deny it, it's true. The only way you can get any programs on any of these devices is through Apple, and that in itself on a large scale, can only lead to pure evil and bad bad bad.
@s2m0
By the end of the year, the iPad should be leading the way as a gaming device that will easily outsell the PSP. Casual gamers should really like the larger screen.
@MosesusedaniPad:
The PSP? The PSP hardly exists as it is. How about we compare it to the DS, you know, the one that's sold over 100 million units. Or maybe the 3DS coming within the next year. You know, the one with the glasses-free 3D.
iPad works for casual gaming on the small devices because you carry them with you everywhere and can just pull them out for five minutes. Not so with the iPad. Nobody is going to lug anything that big around for casual gaming.
@Jordan:
iPod** works for casual gaming
@Sean Parker Why u downranked my post? I just said the truth. iPhone OS is based on OS X and is obviously a crippled version of Mac OS X. And native OS X softwares aren't supported. What's wrong with that? It's a fact man, get over it fanboy. When the guy said he is waiting for a mac OS X tablet, I believe he meant OS X tablet and not OS X based OS tablet.
@Jordan Calling the App Store model "evil" is pushing it a little.
@Colrath Perhaps yes, but I believe that apple is only doing this to make people beliebe that their tablet is highly in-demand. In which in my perception, proves to be a cheap-trick to pull the noses out of people. Didn't we have this kind of hype during their 1st pre-order sales? Reactions: http://bit.ly/preorder-ipad-hype-or-not
@HighestRanked2 I wouldn't mind the whole distribution method if the program didn't suck so much... or if I could use my own program to access the same stuff. They won't allow that, naturally, since iTunes acts not as a source of income but as a USP for Apple devices. That's part of the reason I like Magnatune so much more. There's a whole lot more that's really boring to talk about that I like about Magnatune, but never mind all that.
But yeah, I agree: yelling, "Evil!" doesn't really mean anything.
@Sean Parker
A bit late but here goes.
Remember apple TV, that's practicly been canseled for the lack of intrest....
http://seekingalpha.com/article/25471-apple-tv-already-sold-out
Artificial shortage is part of marketing.
It wouldnt surprice me if these cutoff dates are predecided nevermind if it doesnt sell. It's a way to reward early adopters. If everybody got one the day of the release the ones making preorders would feel cheated.
@Dreamwriter Now don't give Apple any more marketing ideas...haha
@Jordan So you say just because one thing is a success, don't count on another product being a success...well how about not counting on it being a failure either.
And I cannot believe you said just because they made 1 good product. Are you kidding me? We are talking about Apple. Yeah, the Macbooks, iMacs, iPhone, Mouse, Personal Computer, iPod, iTunes, Mac OS X are all just terrible failures! YES THAT WAS SARCASM! People line up to buy these things because of repeated success of product launches and customer satisfaction with the product that overshadows any other company where electronics are concerned. I love people saying the iPhone would tank, and that the Pre was an iPhone killer. We will see who has the last laugh, again.
maybe the ipad is apples high res iphone and we just dont get it
@bolezhinkov
I don't get it nor will I buy it...
@bolezhinkov
No, the iPhone is just the iPad nano.
@Atkins I get it and won't buy it

@BurtonBytes Too late.
@GeekGuy
Thing is people will love, I've spoken to many friends and family, some who have no knowledge of Apple products or OS X who see this as an excellent casual browsing internet machine.
No doubt everyone on here will cry foul, say there part of the Apple School for the brainwashed and then look to pick holes.
But thats life i guess.
PS If your running a Mac and fancy checking out html5 beta on youtube don't. A glitch causes speaker overload and modulation, setting the speakers to full. My imac now has 2 blown speakers and this week alone I've encountered another 11 machines all with the same issue. See I always hated flash but it never f$£ked my speakers up!
@BurtonBytes casual browsing... is that like social drinking or what?
When did people stop having lives that now they need a casual browser?
@BurtonBytes As an official Apple Hater(TM), let me just say that I really like the iPad in terms of its looks and form factor. It's actually the kind of thing that i was looking for, a nice and light machine not running a full OS with good battery life. But, I don't like it not having a MicroSD card slot, a USB port, and a video out port. I can live without a keyboard built in since it's thin, but I can't live without what I just said. And it seems kind of pointless without multitasking. (Flash I can live without)
@Jacob1
2nd that; it's actually a really intriguing form factor, but it doesn't seem mobile if I have to be tethered to a pc for it to work. No USB and SD card seems silly to me; I couldn't even plug in a flash drive to transfer files on the go. Maybe the 2nd gen will add these features that are pretty standard on my 5-year old laptop.
