Bang & Olufsen announces 46-inch BeoVision 10
Suddenly Bang & Olufsen's 40-inch HDTV seems like a consolation prize. While the BeoVision 10-40 is making its good will tour of the states, the kids in Copenhagen will be checking out the new standard in the company's lavish displays, the BeoVision 10-46. Aside from the 6-inch real estate boost, this thing sports "a new and exciting LED-based, 240Hz LCD panel" and unnamed "sophisticated motion compensation technologies" that apparently sport "a yet unseen level of smoothness." Can you handle all this sophistication? We didn't think so. To be unveiled on April 14 in Denmark, goes on sale this summer. No word yet on a price, but we're guessing you can't afford it anyways.
Update: Special thanks to Jesper for sending the price our way: 54,990 DKK (or about $9,940). We were right -- you can't afford it.

A TV for those who have far more money than they have brains.
@plyx
The reason people have far more money is because they have far more brains. This applies to everything illegal and legal.
@DRoizman
I meant to say in illegal and Legal businesses.
@plyx
I have had two B&O TVs as well as one of their HiFis and a house phone. The design and use is second to none.
I have both brains and money.
@DRoizman Oh, really? How do you explain Paris Hilton?
@plyx
More money than brains or just more money than you...?
@plyx
Brains...
@plyx
Exactly. Give me a top of the line 2010 Sharp any day over this overpriced designer technology.
@r3loaded
Daddy?
@plyx
Typical "nerd" jargon... To think that the "stats" are the only parameters that count is about as brainless as you accuse the buyers of this to be.
@r3loaded: Easy: Brilliant marketing = lotsa cash.
@rederikus
I'd like to see one of them in action. Could you please send me your address and time you will be at home to allow a demonstration?
(black shirt-check, black pants-check, black boots-check, black mask-check, crowbar-check, flash light-check)
What is with the huge white panel beneath the display? Speakers? Or is that the display too? Wtf?
@cjwild
It's a stand for the TV
@cjwild From the source...
"Besides a fantastic picture, the slim beauty offers an impressive sound performance as well. BeoVision 10-46 has an integrated stereo speaker placed below the screen and covered by a fabric front. It offers integrated surround sound, electronic curtains and an even more extensive connection panel allowing you to add up to five extra speakers for a surround sound setup and a multitude of set-top boxes if needed."
@DRoizman no, I think he means that lower part of the screen itself, all white, all awkward looking..
@cjwild
Its the speakers
@Bean
Right, thanks lol. I guess they are just strange looking to me.
and DRoizman i think you misunderstood me lol
@cjwild I thought the same thing when I first saw it (WTF?!?)
Then I hoped it was extra screen real estate that would come into play when you've got those old 4:3 videos to watch (and that black bar would automagically disappear)
Then I realized that was too good to be true, so I checked the sources :P
@Bean
Seriously, or why not a menu/features screen? Like those internet tv's that have facebook, except you can creep on face and watch high def at the same time.
Looks good, just head down to the Bang & Olufsen store here in Denmark and check it out.
@Andr
Indeed...just a bummer they closed all their stores here in Norway, just need to go to the local hi-fi store though ;)
B&O, nice kit, usually quite good but never worth the fanciful prices they put on their stuff... they usually target rich dumb idiots, that don't know they can get better for less... nice kit, but not worth it IMHO.
Albeit the quality which is not really arguable, when I read "Bang & Olufsen" all my brain sees is "$$$$ & $$$$$$" we take visa, mastercard and healthy kidneys!
Why would they make the speaker panel take up 1/3 the front?
@T3chMasTR
Well design for one, sound quality second ;)
Remember B&O has the best sound in the TVs and thats proven ;)
@T3chMasTR
Sound quality takes a back seat in every TV review I've read since they seem to assume folks always use their surround sound system. I only use surround for movies; the sound on my Pioneer plasma is truly amazing while my friends highly-rated (for picture) Panasonic plasma sounds unbelievably crappy.
I've never seen the point of B&O TVs. Samsung and LG actually make LCD panels, and they also develop picture processing technologies. All B&O do is wrap this up in a "fashionable" frame, stick an oversized speaker on the front and charge 2 grand extra.
@r3loaded for the latest series of TV's B&O did a desent job they got great reviews for for the 10-40 one example can be seen in this indepth review http://flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1263826711
Well they do take the best panels, improve them quite heavily, use the best design in the world and give you service and warranty second to none, and then yes charge 2 grand extra ;)
I think you have to have owned a B&O before you understand it, really sammy, sony etc just feel cheap, I would never buy anything else than B&O, because its like going from Bentley to a ford... The ford will get you there but its not the same
at the cost of one bazillion dollars, *pinky to side of mouth*
I'd like to check that out here in the US.
Samsung??
So how do you make LED based LCD?
I don't enough about this hi-tech stuff....
Can we just keep things simple by making LED, LED and LCD, LCD?
@lepetitprince
LCD, try to search on wiki ;) LED is just the light source. thus a LED based LCD is the correct name
Actually it wont be that expensive, here in Denmark it will cost around 10k usd, so in the US a bit less because of your low taxes
@Techtrino
10k USD is not that expensive?!?!
WTF...
I'd take my 60 inch elite pioneer plasma connected to def tech mythos speakers to this for both looks and performance... It cost me around 9k all in for that set up.
For a second I thought the 4:3 AR is making a comeback.
Crap - that is rediculous - if it was a 46" computer monitor the price would be justifiable but as at TV that is a joke. I saw the picture and saw the size and thought it was a breakthrough in computer monitor technology.
For all those who say "i'm using my tv as a monitor and it looks fine" that is great for you - unfortunatley for detail work and just genral use even the best plasma and LCD TV just won't look that good - it has to do with a number of reasons you can just google and find out for your own on why many of us don't want TV's as monitors - no point in me trying to educate you if you are happy with using your TV as a monitor.
@boe
Indeed.. TV manufacturers love to wage war on image quality. Rather bizarre really. But if you do your homework (admittedly its tough homework) TVs as monitors are fantastic.
I am using a 42" Sharp that allows you to turn off all the quality reduction features.
It seems to be a good LCD Full HD... I think it would be great in my living room ;)
Another french blog talks about it here : http://www.geekozor.com/beovision-10-46-lcd-full-hd-led.html
