Beijing Gorld combines sub-par cellphone with lackluster e-reader
Alongside the Get Smart shoe phone, Beijing Gorld's 600TW e-reader / cellphone has to be one of the less useful combos we can imagine. As an E Ink device, it's pretty straightforward -- 6-inch display and a battery life of approximately 6,000 page turns. And there's no denying that the plethora of connectivity options (including SMS messaging, GSM, GPRS, and EDGE, WiFi, and Bluetooth) is a pretty sweet deal. All the same, we can't really picture this thing providing a satisfying handset experience at all. Available in China for 2,880 yuan (about $420).

Just what I always wanted! A 6" phone with a black and white e-ink display with which to make calls on!
But you can't beat the name.
Looks they they didn't read the demographics.
What is the environmental thing?
@HardToBelieve Great Engrish translation. It's trying to say, "Protecting the environment starts with reading," the implication being that if you want to save the Earth, you can start by using an e-Reader instead of contributing to trees being cut down!
@v0rt
Teehee, yet buying one of these, it will most likely end up in a landfill in china somewhere, trees can be re planted and regrown easily en masse. paper can be recycled easily. Which is worse?
@excelsium
Thats an interesting point you point because it seems as if most people dont recycle their electronics.
off topic for sure, im trying to change my user name and can not, any help would be appreciated.
@Windows 7
You can't.
Trend setter. That's all I have to say today.
They use the same menu, prev, and next page buttons (font, size) from the Kindle 2.
Today Beijing, tomorrow the GORLD!
"lackluster e-reader"
sounds like an iPad
I can understand why this could be a usable phone. If you only use your bluetooth headset and always carry around your e-reader, this eliminates the need to carry around your handset.
Now I'm not saying I would buy this. I refuse to look like a cybernetic being who must always be connected to the central hive. But hey, 7 of 9 pulled it off pretty well. She was hot!
Environmental Protection started from the reading? hahaha... nice tagline
Think about it, 6 inch screen, leaves plenty of space for a huge battery, this thing would last a week+ on a charge.
