Cowon's all-metal J3 PMP gets official

We'd already gotten a early look at Cowon's new all-metal J3 PMP earlier this month courtesy of the red dot design awards, but the company has just now gotten fully official with it, and detailed its complete specs. As expected, this one packs a 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen, along with 4GB, 8GB or 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot for further expansion, a built-in DMB TV tuner and FM radio, Bluetooth support, a built-in speaker and, of course, that brushed metal case -- not to mention a few familiar UI elements. Unfortunately, there's still no indication of a price, nor is there any word of a release over here.
Update: At least one website has listed prices of between 189,000 and 359,000 South Korean won, or roughly $166 to $316.

It tops out at 16GB? I'm imagining one listing in water, then ass high in the air, then splitting in half and sinking.

That can't be a real promo shot. I remember listening to that album as a kid. It was before my time, and I'm relatively old. If it is, though, i'm a fan. Have my maiden key chain in my pocket.

I just got the cowon v5 HD to replace my archos... it ate everything I threw at it... WITHOUT asking me to buy extra codecs. so glad I caught the review here. otherwise I wouldn't have known the thing existed. thanks guys! :D

@thoughtmonster grr, this makes me want to replace my 32gb s9. More battery, sd card expansion = more flac :) Hopefully it has a newer version of flash on it so the devs can make amazing UIs for it.
For the people that are complaining about the lack of features, get an iPhone/iPod touch. Then tell me how long you can listen to music after you've been playing games all day. I charge my s9 like 1-2 times a week.

I'd love to buy this. Cowon's audio quality is stop notch. Too bad their software is terrible.

So install a custom UI theme? Or are you talking about that Jet Effects software you can install on your computer? Because if you are, I agree. That JE program is garbage, there's no two ways around that. That's why I use Media Monkey to sync.
I've been using my Cowon A2 for almost 5 years now, and its still running strong, even though it looks like crap. This thing though looks like it could last ages.

It looks nice, but I don't know, Cowon devices seem so '2006'. It's as if Wifi and mobile touch screen browsers haven't really taken off yet.
With Spotify, Pandora, Hulu, etc. etc. it'll be tough selling your device as multi media capable without some kind of internet access.

Except for the part where oh, about 6.5 billion of us don't live in the USA and can't use Hulu or Pandora. Or those of us who simply don't want apps or browsing on our PMP we have smartphones for that, we just need devices that sound good, have good battery life, and are generally really good at playing music portably.
For my 2 cents, the Zune HD is pretty much the best device i've ever seen in this category, but the J3 is interesting enough to make me consider it.
That + android + vodafone/verizon = awesome phone, eh? :P
this thing looks sexy for sure. but ONLY that might not be enough to trigger the urge to throw money at it...

It completely depends what you want out of a player. This has superb sound quality, customization options, along with tremendous format support. The Zune and iPod is a completely different experience, concentrating less on audio quality, and more on apps.

@everyone trying to compare this to an iPod: you get an iPod for apps, you get a Cowon for SOUND QUALITY.
Which, believe it or not, is an important factor for some people regarding music listening.

i have the cowon D2+ and its perfect, it dusnt have all these unnessary power draining additions and so i can listen to my 26gbs of music for about two days non stop b4 worrying about charging, and so normally itl last over two weeks, and thats wat i h8ed about the itouch, battery was nearly gone in a day

I want, it looks great and is a Cowon so amazing sound quality. And the look of it is the most stunning PMP I have ever seen. When does it come to Canada or at least North America?
