iPad shipments en route, men in brown on high alert

P.S. Apple news is going to get nuts as we approach the April 3rd launch. So if your brain can't filter out the news you don't care about then let Engadget do it for you.

UPS on Saturday? Why, I thought I'd never see the day!
@MLO i'm glad at least the private delivery companies work on saturdays
@notbuttershift1 errr... sorry, wait a year and then my comment will be right
@notbuttershift1 USPS is still delivering on Saturday. They have only proposed the change, it has not happened yet. Even then there will be a 6 month grace period before it happens. But really who needs 6 days of mail? Commercial I understand but I would be fine with Monday Thursday only....
@PyRo1509 In light of my USPS response time... I give you this:
Seinfeld Mail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hox-ni8geIw
@PyRo1509 ahahahaha thank you, i have not seen that in so long...
lady: why is the mail dummy wearing a bucket over its head?
kramer: because we're blind to their tyranny!
lady: ...then shouldn't you be wearing the bucket?
@MLO
I have started to warm to the ipad a bit, although I think its success is overly dependent on how many apps there are that are really impressive. While I'm sure there will be some lovely twitter apps etc I'm not sure how useful most of them will be.
I can browse the app store on my iphone for half an hour and not find anything I think is worth paying for (and there aren't many free apps that are worth it either).
@lookseehear
The one issue is with app prices. Omnigraffle looks like a full-featured app (comparable to the desktop app), so they went ahead and charged $49.99 for it. The problem is that the AppStore doesn't do demos or refunds, and nobody's really sure if working on an iPad is a realistic idea or not.
From the AppStore screenshots, it looks like apps/games will be in the $5-$10 range. That's beyond the level of micropurchase, and I'm not going to be comfortable buying things that cost that much without any demo or refund opportunity. $99 I can do, and sometimes I'll be pleasantly surprised.
I sometimes buy more expensive apps when they get good reviews, but I'm not buying a $50 copy of Omnigraffle with no demo and zero chance of a refund.
I think I may have selected standard shipping instead of overnight, will I still get mine on launch or not? Probably a stupid question, but thanks for the help.
@fromtheyear
overnight shipping was not necessary to receive it on 3 April. Standard shipping is fine- no worries mate.

@High Proof positive that Apple can market absolutely anything... rofl! xD
PS: what are you, high?
Although I am happy that iPad pre-orderers will soon be receiving them, I wanted to thank Engadget for enabling the no-apple stories feature within the site. It is indeed getting a bit much. I hope no one takes this in the wrong way. I will look forward to reading about all of the reviews that will be coming out. But until April 3rd, I would rather read NO news about the iPad. BTW....the much cliched: long time reader, first time poster!
@bwhite
Here, here.
I'm am extremely interested to see consumer reaction. At first I doubted the iPad. However, I've definitely begun to warm up to the idea of this type of device.
@Howell
my prediction: the iPad is going to pull a Wii..
@Howell
Thanks for replying to my post...
O wait..
@glenskey
My prediction: iPad is going to pull an iPod and iPhone...
@Howell
a Wii is similar to pulling an iPod, but with less success later on
@Howell
This thread makes no sense.
@Howell
The iPad is going to pull money from your account.
@Howell
The iPad is going to pull money from your account.
iPad will finally prove Apple can sell anything.
@sinkingshriek iPad will prove people will waste their money on product loyalty, knowing they have no actual use for it. Don't get me wrong, I hate Apple as a company, but I do recognize they make awesome products that work amazingly for people. I'm just not one of 'em. The way I see it, this specific product will only appeal to those who have never used an Apple product, are *die hard* Apple loyalists and the kids that want to keep up with the crowd/what's cool. It will indeed sell well, but not because it's actually that good. Only my opinion, of course.
@KidRobotXXIV
Well said sir.
@KidRobotXXIV
Wow, way off the mark. I work in film and television, when I show a client my work, I can either bring a DVD and hope they play it, lug a laptop around with me or show them my work on a small iPhone screen. Now I have a choice to pull out a iPad and have a moderate size net-book screen yet only on a thinner, lighter and smaller device. All the rest is just icing on the cake, and that icing is made of, music, movies, books, photos, email, web browsing, games, etc... To me, money well spent and I get to write if off on my tax forms next year.

@commonman I guess I should have said most people, as I certainly didn't mean all. My bad for the misconception. And um definitely not trolling or bashing, being that I said Apple makes awesome machines, I just don't dig 'em.
Our two ipads have shipped as well! Original Scan from UPS shows Shenzhen, China. Scheduled delivery shows the 1st, which is two days before the proposed delivery date. I'm wondering if that scheduled delivery is for arrival at a UPS hub in the US where they will hold it for Saturday delivery, or direct to the customer?
What to do???
My Ipad 32GB is "not shiped yet"
whay?? whay me?? am i the only one??? HELPPPP
@lior Mine hasn't either... don't fret. I live near a MAJOR hub, and you probably do too... They promised us delivery by the 3rd... you'll get it!
@lior Mine hasn't either -- 64GB version.
I know I'll get down marked for this, but whatever. People here hate me only because of my avatar. At first I sort of thought the iPad was a big iPhone, which is fine by me because I love the iPhone UI. But as I see more screen shots of apps that'll be out for it, it really starts to look more like a computer. Even better than a netbook, because you'll have the advantages of the screen size & multitouch.
I think I might actually get it. I was thinking of getting the next gen, but this might be good enough
@Atkins I was originally going to, however, after reading what these people have to say, they almost had me convinced that it was like the worse product ever made.
But I think I will be getting it, but still hoping that next gen will have a camera (fingers crossed).
If I refuse shipment does Apple refund me?
@Atkins
Ah. Ok. Got it. I was thinking I could just order and think about it and then decide later if I kept it, but orders are just for pickup then?
@etwashoo
Never mind. Just checked. They deliver. But holding out to see what Android & Win7 brings.
Engadget missed a subtle point: As yet, the GM seed of the SDK is not available. Once that is available, apps go through the final approval process. That hasn't even started yet which means the iPad wont be delivered early to customers.

First time ever that I'm not excited about a 'new' gadget.
I was going to order one until I sow the 12 April shipping date
now I think I will wait for the 3g one
@lior Relax, as long as you have food and water, you will be ok.
@mtnDewFTW Why wait? Gat it, have fun with it, sell it, buy next gen...
@etwashoo No, you walk down there to get your iPad.
@genomecop That must give you a well deserved break...
@mtnDewFTW Well, there are some stupid comments here as there are awesome ones too, but at the end you have your own needs. Usefulness is subjective.
Go with your heart! :)
