Toshiba introduces Canvio line of portable hard drives
Toshiba hasn't exactly flooded the market with external hard drives since jumping into the game a couple of years back, but it has now expanded its offering a bit further with its new Canvio line of portable drives, which keep things about as simple as can be. Available in 500GB, 640GB, 750GB or 1TB capacities, the less than six ounce drives all come bundled with the Windows-only NTI BackupNow EZ software, which promises a "set-it-and-forget-it" operation, and they're each available in your choice of five different colors. Look for the whole lot to be available from all the usual sources starting today, with prices ranging from $119.99 to $199.99.

Looks interesting
Oh and hey those prices arent at all bad. This is good.
Tough to beat the size of LaCie's Rikiki though. Wonder how these compare.
I've been using Toshiba's smaller usb drives for years. They've proven wonderfully reliable.
$119.99 to $199.99 ???
@Ren021 not bad at all
Am I the only one annoyed that HD prices don't seem to have dropped in the past year or so? 500 GB 2.5 inch externals have been hovering at or around $100 for quite a while, despite the introduction of higher capacity drives.
@Shivv
same here...it particularly hurts when you're about to fill a NAS with 5 or so drives (albeit of the 3.5' kind) - HD prices have been frighteningly steady for too long. Same for Flash memory (SD/CF cards, USB sticks).
Is this being manufactured by their same division simpletech or is it a totally new design from toshiba?
nevermind, mixed that up with hitachi.
I bought a toshiba 500gb external HDD and I absolutely love it. It is small, light, quiet, fast, dependable, everything I could ever ask for in an external HDD. I even split it into a couple partitions and installed a Linux OS on it so I can boot it from any computer terminal
I wonder if the 750GB drive has the 9mm 750GB 2.5" drive inside it and can be dismantled to use it inside a laptop...
