Let's start with the obvious proviso here, the above image is so painfully easy to fake that even our computer illiterate grandparents could mock one up within a few minutes. That said, it's purportedly a screenshot of a little oopsie by Google's online store, which is said to have briefly displayed the Verizon option for
Nexus One handsets as available to buy for $199 plus the relevant contractual shackles. We wouldn't normally credit such unverifiable information, but then we're also hearing from
Soft Sailor that a highly trusted "inside" source of theirs is reporting that Verizon-carried,
Sense-less Nexus Ones will be out and about "by the end of next week." Given that the
earlier mooted date of March 23 has now come and gone, we're apprehensive about investing too much of ourselves in these rumors, but those supposed CDMA Nexus One
shipments from HTC have to come out and play at some point, right?
[Thanks, Carson]
Update: jkOnTheRun has more insider info to share with us on this topic. James Kendrick's people "in positions to know" tell him that the Verizon Nexus One will definitely show up in April, which meshes with the Spring timeframe we've already been given, but there's also word about a "surprise" that other US carriers lack. Whether that refers to Sense-related enhancements or some other software optimizations, we'll have to wait and see.
Now I can stop wearing out my refresh button.
This is is cool
Now I can stop wearing out my refresh button!
@pauldovi Instead you can wear out the reply button
I can't wait for the sexy nexus to hit Verizon. This Droid owner will be upgrading
Even though I was having orgasms like the next person when I first saw this phone on Engadget, I was not that impressed when I saw it in person. It's a very unassuming phone, very thin but very dull. I'm sure it could have used some metal and chrome here and there to jazz it up a bit.
So then should I be returning my Pre for one of these N1's? Is it even worth it?
@MishMish You should not ask if the phone is worth it. Every phone is different for everyone. Some people hate the Nexus One, some people love it! It depends on what you want.
Why the hell would Google ship the N1 with Sense... that makes no sense!
@ECH
The N1 is an HTC phone. HTC makes Sense. If Google wanted to provide it's customers with an additional interface option they could have it included and you can turn it on and off.
@MacBandit
Google's entire stated justification for the N1 was so that they could demonstrate what they (Google) thought an android phone should be. Putting a third party OS on top of such a Google branded phone doesn't make...... sense.
Oh boy, I hope the "surprise" is exclusive access to V-Cast Apps!
:-s
@ECH
I hope it's upgraded hardware.
Still want more information on the incredible. Seems to be a better choice.
@MatriX123
Agreed... need that phone out by May as my wife's contract is up and she can't get past the trackball on the N1.
My guess is that the "surprise" is either in store sales or a color options for the phone. World phone would be cool though.
I thought the idea of a "carrier free" phone (like Google pitched the phone as being) would be one sold at full price ($529) that worked on all carriers (Verizon, Sprint, ATT, T-Mobile) and was also a world phone. You aren't really "free" if you have to buy a phone that is good on a single carrier.
@pauldovi
re world phone -- that would be my #1 feature request!
and I'm with you regarding "carrier" free .. what good is that claim if you are locked into a single carrier? I want a phone that works in the US (Verizon) and in Europe (GSM).
@pauldovi
Well that is what the rumors are. The rumors being that Verizon is actually going to have display models even if they don't have actually product for sale. Also it's likely you will be able to buy them and add it to a family plan unlike the other carriers provide at the moment. Lastly if they are selling it in store then not being released until next week makes since since the buy one get one ends on March 31st and I doubt they want to include the Nexus or Incredible in this sale.
So this is what they were waiting for to push out 2.1 for my Droid, how soon after this can I expect my software update ;)
@SlickVic Today if you root and ROM it. My Droid is running Bugless Beast v0.9 with a 1.2Mhz overclock... It's f'ing sweet.
Wouldn't be surprised if it showed up in stores. Talked to a guy the other day who knew about both phones coming to Verizon (N1 and Incredible) and said they wouldn't ever sell a phone like that without it being in the store. Granted, he's just a rep, so take it for what it's worth.
The only feature this one will have over others is probably the Skype app and use over 3G Network.
Perhaps the "surprise" is the launch of the Incredible at the same time as the VZW Nexus One?
I'd rather have the Incredible to be honest. Although the concept of downclocking a Snapdragon is confounding to me.
@AckbarsFist
I don't know how many times this has to be said before everyone reads it. The Snapdragon processor is not available as an underclocked processor. It automatically scales to lower speeds for power savings but is not at a fixed lower speed. What started all the rumors was someone got their hands one and checked the hardware information and saw the lower speed but the processor was just scaling to that lower speed at the moment. The hardware processor and all is identical to the Nexus. The only differences being that the battery is bigger and the camera may or may not be higher MP with a second LED for flash.
Can't wait!!!
According to the kernel source, CDMA versions of the Nexus One are actually quite different in some aspects of the hardware.
In any case, it supports 18-bit color depth instead of the dismal 16-bit color depth of the GSM Nexus Ones.
@coolbho3000
Where have you seen this?
@MacBandit Line 634.
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=kernel/msm.git;a=blob;f=arch/arm/mach-msm/board-mahimahi-panel.c;h=a7dadcad2f2338c009841a40b52674950cb35551;hb=android-msm-2.6.32
Everyone keeps talking about the Incredible, but I haven't seen one shred of evidence from HTC that it even exists, if you have a HTC link, please provide it.
Now I have been reading from multiple sources that the HTC Incredible IS the Verizon Nexus One, just with a few Verizon modifications to the hardware and includes Sense.
@Isror
Well there are plenty of photos of it (visually very different from a Nexus). Also there's the images from Verizons own inventory system stating it as Incredible. Also there were a handful of people that saw a Verizon official with the Incredible in their hands at CTIA (again not visually the same as a Nexus). Then if you do some searching on some of the photo sharing sites you can find photos taken with it that have exif data stating the model number that matches the Verizon inventory system numbers and the image size is 7MP. There's more evidence including HTC ADR6300 display boxes showing up at Verizon stores not Nexus boxes.
@MacBandit I didn't hear anyone mention a Verizon exec with the Incredible. Granted there are several images online of the Incredible, but at the same time I've yet to see anything official from HTC. Just from previous releases, as far as I can remember there has always been some kind of HTC info well before the release of their devices.
w/e until I see something official, the Incredible is just a fictitious or prototype device. The 7MP argument could be the hardware changes Verizon made to the Nexus one, which could lend as to why big red has taken so long to release the device. I just hope if it is real, they go live at the same time.
Any more info about the Nexus only being available online, and the Incredible being the "in store" option?
It's quite possible the "surprise" could be Android 2.2. PDAdn.net reports 2.2 will land April 1st. Whether this date is true or not, we'll just have to wait and see.
I think us Verizon guys deserve a surprise for waiting so long for the N1.
@cesjr
2.2 should never be something only one carrier has. if the nexus one duplicates on various carriers don't get simultaneous ota upgrades, then that will definitely debunk the usual explanations for delaying upgrades.
@cesjr April 1st you say?
This calls for a "coolface.jpg"
@dantzig
I didn't mean to imply the Verizon N1 would be the only carrier to get the 2.2 update. Rather perhaps the release will coincide with the rumored 2.2 update. Or as others have speculated, slight hardware changes, (less likely)
I contacted my source at Big Red and the earlier reports of Sense UI are correct, just as I predicted when the initial slip was made.Those type of Documents never have typo's like that. So, brace yourself kids for one badass N1.This is fact not fiction my source is store owner.
@DannyDarko
Thanks for contacting your source to see if the phone will ship with a 'skin' instead of finding out the release date.
it'll be either tomorrow or next tuesday. they've only come out on tuesdays so far.
@dantzig
Good catch. My money is on April 6th, even though I would love to see it tomorrow.
Another possibility for a "surprise" is Flash support.
The incredible does exist! I had it in my hands almost 2 months ago. A friend of mine tests HTC devices that are in Beta. I held it in my hands and played with it for a little bit. It's slick looking, but I'm not feeling the finger print magnet bright red back. Although it's been sated it'll ship with a soft touch black back. As for the hardware, it was a beta version so it was a little buggy, but it's a nice ui with sense. Although he said he was having massive issues with email on the device? But it does exist, and it will drop on vzw eventuallly this spring!
Not much of a "surprise"...I bet it's just mobile hotspot functionality and world phone capabilities (i.e. Verizon Wireless and Vodafone will be stocking the same sku, using a multiradio/multiband chipset from Qualcomm.)
@VerizonGuy
So CDMA and GSM on the same phone?? That would be sweet!
that is nice and all but where the hell is the HTC Incredible. That better be the surprise...
Now they just need to lower the price to $450 dollars so it can directly compete with the HD2!
Yea, a Verizon store employee told me the same thing a few days ago!! So stoked!
With its gorgeous hardware, speedy Snapdragon processor, and a knockout 4.3-inch display, the HTC HD2 ($200 with a two-year contract from T-Mobile; price as of 4/1/10) seems to be the perfect smartphone.

Glad to see this rumor was 100% true...NOT
