Celsius X VI II LEDIX, the $300k tourbillon dumbphone, gets handled
Yes, folks, what you are looking at is perhaps the world's most overly complex cellphone, and it has been given an overly complex name to match: the Celsius X VI II LEDIX. All those Roman numerals don't convey the sense of power you'll feel in holding this to the side of your face while yelling at your assistant in a futile attempt at gaining the respect of your peers. Despite the phone quite naturally having a battery inside, the (soon to be broken) watch mechanism is purely mechanical, given another three hours of life each time you open and close this clamshell. Inside you can gaze at a design straight out of 1998 and functionality not much more advanced -- a simple browser, text messaging, and tri-band GSM. 3G isn't even on offer here folks, but when you're this rich you can pay other people to download high-res lolcat pictures for you.

That's half a Ferrari right there.
@Luke Whatever the scale is, this is just crazy. I mean, I like design and am willing to pay more to have a nice computer sitting on my desk, or drive a nice car, but this here...
I threw mine out the window.
Waiting for new iPhone, will use landline in meantime.
Very cool, but worthless nonetheless.
@Geaux These kinda phones and luxury gadgets are not to use current tech, they are to show your choice is one in a million or billion(As only few can offered spending this much on their cell phone). Don't waste your time checking the specs. Just enjoy the uniqueness of it....IMO
@filjosh You are spot on. The people that buy these phones don't need to browse the web or check email etc. The just need to take and make phone calls. This little bad boy probably can't do much, but it also doesn't hang or reboot itself or have any problems that smart phones have. It makes phone calls and lets everyone around you know that they could pay to have you killed and pay everyone else not to care.
@Geaux Agreed
@sweet greggo
"Pay to have you killed" hahaha word!
@Geaux I agree, but I guess some 'eccentric-rich' people would buy this phone to show resemblance on their personality-- A tad complicated one. Although, I think the iPhone gold supreme can line up with this gadget: http://bit.ly/iphone-gold-supreme-examined
How appropriate that a complex phone be named Celsius...
Were it Fahrenheit... it would have been a simple phone.
@wxrman
How many times do I have to click the "-" to rank him down into the depth of Hades?
yeah because the digital clock on my phone just isnt enough, and this provides more functionality by having super complex mechanical stuff going on. it is also well worth the small fortune to not have any smart phone functionality.
Don't be fooled, it's just another form of the Deception Frenzy:

Steampunk ftw (:
@Marko
Since when did an analog clock suddenly become steampunk?
@archie4oz It's not exactly.
However I will admit. were this brass and had small heatpipes it WOULD be steampunk, more affordable, and more interesting.
@Marko
You clearly have no idea what Steampunk is.
That is, unless you are just randomly sharing your feelings about it...
I think you other commenters should click on the link and look at the inside/sides/dock pictures. it is kinda steam-punkish.
I can't imagine how rich someone has to be to buy something as pointless as this. I can understand expensive cars, luxurious houses, private jets . . . but $300k for a phone that does less and looks worse than a $100 phone, WHY?
@blueskyv201
That assumes that somewhere, at some point, they will actually sell one. That may not happen.
On the other hand there are people with 20 billion in their bank account. That's 5 orders of magnitude more than me. So them spending 300k is like me spending 30 dollars...
@bebop
yur saying you have 4 billion in yur bank account? or am i misunderstanding the orders of magnitude thing?
@N900androidOS
5 orders of magnitude less than 20 billion is 200,000
I knew paying attention in math class would pay off some day. Hahaha.... :-)
I'm normally not fond of the term "dumbphone", but it's hard to imagine a more fitting epithet for a high-end pocket watch with a PAYG cheapie stuck inside it.
How much on a 2 year contract???
@thesafecigarette
$100,000 plus $50,000 a month
@OCEAN CLAK
So much for selling it on ebay
If the people selling actually sell more than 1, they are gonna be laughing all the way to the bank.
It's a penis enlargement...
doesn't even looks good ....
@3doog I'd be impressed if the winding mechanism actually powered the phone.
Celsius X VII II is the name of the company, LeDIX is the name of the phone. I guess money isn't meant for people who don't get that.
Anyone willing to buy this for all that cash needs to be castrated and purged from the gene pool. Then have their entire fortune given to people who will actually do something productive with it.
wow... if the phone itself doesn't do a good enough job at screaming "i'm a giant dbag" there's always the gun-style shoulder holster to reiterate the fact. omfg.
But "E" is not a Roman numeral! Unless you want it to stand for "Engadget"...
well, i wonder how much flack I am gonna get for this but here goes. This is no different from someone buying a Rolex for $10K or some other fancy watch that does nothing but tell the time, while you can buy a Casio at walmart for $20 that gives you a chronograph, 8000 alarms, altimiter, compass, etc...
This is a work of art, and if you are the type of person that can afford it, chances are you are not on your phone surfing the net. besides, if you buy it, you can save the $10K for the Rolex :)
@chafic
I understand what you are saying but a Rolex will last for years. It's something you can pass down to your kids. This phone... Probably not. I dont think anyone will ever hear this "Here you go son I want you to have my cell phone from 20 years ago"
@thesafecigarette
Well the movement will last a long time probably. So the kids can use it as a fancy titanium pocket watch.
@chafic It's more like someone who buys 30 Rolexes and wears all of them at once.
@mondeca
Well the Rolex example is for illustration only, check out some of these watches:
http://stylecrave.com/2009-05-29/luxury-watches-10-of-the-worlds-most-expensive-watches/
@archie4oz
yeah, my daughter suggested i buy and in 20 years she will take it off my hands, gut it out and turn it into a fancy make up kit/watch...
@chafic
less we remember that Rollex is sort of the starbucks of luxury watches. the high-end Patek Phillipe watches go for far more than 300K as I recall.
@mrpenguin
yeah my point exactly. check out the link i posted above.
@Atkins
I was thinking more in terms of meals and relief aid...
They should make it of gold.
Eh, half assed design priced for suckers. But I'm not proud enough to not say I wish I can make something equally stupid and sell it at an equally ridiculous price.
You forgot to mention the bitchen wood inlays.
@Sofabutt I wasn't going to get one, but this seals the deal. If there's anything that my current phone is missing, it's WOOD.
@mondeca Nothing says "Elite Upper Class" quite like fine inlays of half sanded wood.
" BATTERY LOW" - Where is my winder?
Well i guess when ur in an emergency situation it can be a $300K projectile to scare off people of good style.
