With Palm's
Pre Plus (model P101) and
Pixi Plus (model P121) already granted US domicile by their FCC host, it's only natural that they'd seek adventure elsewhere before getting serious and
going to work for AT&T. Now the Global Certification Forum (GFC) has approved what must be the European versions of Palm's Plus handsets: models P101UEU and P121UEU. Both are quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as dual-band UMTS/HSDPA on the 2100/900MHz frequencies. Now if only Palm could get a
few more carriers and countries on board it might actually move some
meaningful device quantities in Europe.
@Merkie We need the carriers for service and pricing.
If you buy a Pre outside one of the few European countries that have them you have to manually set them up for the network you want to use, actually writing code, and as BogdanGC mentions getting Apps is often a problem. A carrier on board would make sure both Apps and nets are set up properly. A carrier would also usually have a service line where users could call if they had problems with their Pre.
Also phones with plans tend to cost around the same as the unlocked phones, after the binding period(at least here in DK), giving you talk and data service to really try out your new phone almost without cost.
Clark Griswold: 'Aw, there's Buckingham Palace, kids. That's where the Queen lives and works.'
Audrey Griswold: 'She works? What does she do, Dad?'
Clark Griswold: 'She queens... And she vacuums.'
Sorry for being so superficial. But may I ask, where in the hell did you find that picture for the post?
Why just the 2100/900MHz band? Where is my 850/1900MHz? this is the same problem with the AT&T version, no 2100/900. I dont want to roam on edge...
Anyone in the UK ever seen a Palm Pre in the Wild? In one year, I've seen one guy with one and when I asked him about it, he said it was broken and he was taking it back!
Palm has absolutely no name value here, nothing.
they need to do more advertising. Maybe make the cast of Heroes do more on the pre than just making phone calls.
said it before (for the original Pre) .. will repeat it again .. no one in Europe will buy this .. or these ..
Palm needs a new CEO. Sorry Jon, but it's true.
Idiots couldn't go with tri-band 3G? And they wonder why they are running the company into the ground.
Also the time for this was last year.
