Screen Grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.
Oh, Jenny Humphrey -- will you ever learn? It's not at all smart to sneak out at night wearing a seductive outfit, only to find your way into a club, get drugged and open yourself up to all sorts of regrettable mischief. Thankfully, Gossip Girl's own Nathaniel Fitzwilliam Archibald is an experienced Droid owner, and he's also in the business of saving damsels in distress. Having Google Latitude just a click away sure is convenient, but having this particular gal's phone number just a Tommy Tutone jam away doesn't hurt, either. Makeshift vid of the rescue is just past the break.
@Evan He's also apparently connected via usb.. >_> When I watched this episode though, I was actually like "wtf? you can't use voice and data on verizon!" ... I hate TV show tech fails.
@ChazClout I'm guessing that's hooked up so somebody can feed a fake location to the device, which is possible over USB for application testing. Wouldn't want it to show that it was in the middle of some TV studio I guess? Still, sloppy.
That triangle could mean a system update!! Hot chicks are a dime a dozen updates from Verizon thats like shooting star rare. She'll manage, update now before its too late!!!!
@DoctarPeppar You can also allow specific users to have specific accuracies. You could let one person know where you are down to the street corner you're standing on, and you can let another person know only to the city you're in. Plus yeah, you have to allow people to know where you are, so if you don't want someone to know, don't add them to your Latitude list. No brainer there.
@bstump that doesn't guarantee that the data isn't available to someone else. Security systems are generally not perfect and it is conceivable that someone who you don't know finds out your location. Look at what happened with Google voice, people's voice-mails were inadvertently shared with the whole world.
@jjohns63 those where voice-mail posted to public websites shared but since it was a problem Google changed how gvs where indexed in searches so Google it and try again
Darren, I hope that you had to go on imdb or do some research before writing this post (ie your girlfriend or your guy friend that went to UNC)...if not, I think you might know too much about gossip girl. First hand knowledge of this information wouldn't be becoming of a fellow NC State fan...
can't be arsed to watch the vid... but I have tried Lattitude on my iPhone... updating was painfully slow, so much so that it was usless for real time tracking. Can somebody who's watched the vid tell me if it's any better here? Of course also I could only run Lattitude and do nothing else... not a limitation in Android I presume?
He had a samsung omnia last week. And wifi & USB. Come on CW if people have blogs about the clothes then they will about the tech. And they all have Blackberry Tours & Curves
If anyone knows anything about edition, the screen was most likely just green or blue, and then the stuff was edited in later, that's why it's shows it's connected to USB and wifi, because it was captured in the editing studio.
She didn't sneak out to a club, she was working at Eleanor Waldorf's pop up fashion show. Then that witch Agnes drugged her and handed her off to a group of guys getting a taxi to a bachelor party. She really shouldn't have trusted Agnes though considering what she did to her in the past...

I had to watch on mute, but did he just use voice and data at the same time?
@ror
Yes he did. Too bad you can't actually do that using Verizon.
@John52
It clearly shows he is on wifi, so he can.
@Evan
Talk about attention to detail... or just the fact that they didn't want to chance using google maps to the cell network.. either way bravo..
@Evan
ha. very astute.
@Evan He's also apparently connected via usb.. >_>

She was actually drugged, give a girl some credit.
1. Why hasn't he updated to the multitouch version of Google Maps?
2. How is he connected via USB in the street?
@ChazClout
He's also in google navigation? Someone failed hard.
@ChazClout Nathaniel is a cyborg! He's secretly tethering the Droid! And looks like adb is enabled, too...
@ChazClout point taken, but i actually don't like the pinch to zoom on my droid. double tap to zoom in and then pan. i rarely zoom out.
@ChazClout
Invisible usb? :p
@ChazClout I'm guessing that's hooked up so somebody can feed a fake location to the device, which is possible over USB for application testing. Wouldn't want it to show that it was in the middle of some TV studio I guess? Still, sloppy.
Laura June+VampireDiaries+Bing = "really Microsoft?"
Darren Murph+GossipGirl+Google = lovable stalker "rescues" girl
@Arch Stanton exactly. because google > microsoft.
@Arch Stanton
Hopefully no one actually watches these shows...
am I the only one, not being cool with giving away my location just like that?
I know, I know, if you have nothing to hide...
@Peter Pan
Hell no.. like i'd want my wife to know I was at gamestop buying yet another game..
@hfm Or Best Buy buying another HDTV.
@bstump
Or at another girls.... wait - no, NO!
@Peter Pan i just text my girl "yeah i'm gonna hang with sarah tonight. we're gonna go dump a body in gowanus and then have wild sex at her apt"
That triangle could mean a system update!! Hot chicks are a dime a dozen updates from Verizon thats like shooting star rare. She'll manage, update now before its too late!!!!
@Peter Pan
Wow, you cant set privacy levels so your location is only given to certain people you allow. DUHR.

@jjohns63
Not true at all.

@Rick James Wiki, my man.
But seriously, I watch this show. I'm man enough to say it.
@DarrenMurph
I haven't seen it, but I always see fine ass chicks in the ads for it. And they are slutty too.
@DarrenMurph
Lol man. Hey, I admit to having been a fan of the OC...so I guess its not the end of the world.
@Rick James The O.C. is probably the best show of all time. I cried when it went off the air.
I refuse to admit if I'm joking or not.
if stalkers looked like that, I don't think girls would have a problem.
She didn't get plastered at the club. She was drugged.
I read "Nate Archibald," I think "basketball."
Personally i would preferred a nexus 1 in his hand

I'm happy to say that I don't even know what show this is. CW shows are so bad.
Is this show actually good?
Or is it aimed at teenage girls?
@Johnny Rockets Yes and yes.
I thought this was about NBA Hall of Famer and World Champion Boston Celtic legend Nate Archibald, grandfather of my nephew.
