Acer Aspire Ethos 8943G and TimelineX 3820T, 4820T, 5820T get hands-on treatment
Oh, what a gloomy morning it's been in London, but that didn't stop Electricpig from attending Acer's UK launch event for its voguish Aspire Ethos and power-sipping TimelineX laptops. The Ethos 8943G, pictured above, is described as a more affordable alternative (at "half the price") to the ASUS NX90, packing a touchscreen-like trackpad for media control, a sturdy chiclet keyboard and an 18.4-inch full HD screen with decent viewing angle. As for the TimelineX trio, Electricpig praises the brushed aluminum lids and the grip on the closed 13.3-inch model, but the meat lies in the 12-hour battery life -- this is the same as the previous line-up, even though WiFi usage is included and the CPUs are now more powerful. If you fancy something more portable, word has it that the 11.6-inch TimelineX 1830T -- a no-show today -- will be out towards the end of June, otherwise the TimelineX trio can be yours from £599.99 ($909) in May, and the Ethos for £1,099.99 ($1,666) in June. Until then, gorge yourselves on the photos at the source links.

I wouldn't mind having one.

Do want
Looks sleek
@Rick Goodman
did he say 12hr batt for that thing?
I'm in
@Jollybee
12 hours for the Timeline X, pictured here is the Ethos.
Man that's one sexy ass design if I ever saw one...
WHY IS THAT TOUCHPAD GLOSSY AND SMOOTH!? WHY ARE THERE BACKLIT BUTTONS IN IT? WHY WHY WHY WHY?
WHY!?
@Prevacator
Caps lock stuck again?
Not having used the laptop, I can't comment on the apparently glossy touchpad, but the reason for the lit buttons (having used another model of Acer before), is that the pad probably has two modes, one for media control, one for normal mouse trackpad. Switch between the two as you like.
@Ray W
I used to use an HP laptop, and they're known for their smooth glossy touchpads.
They're absolutely the worst, if your hand is even slightly moist (which happens if there's even 60%+ humidity in the air) it makes it a huge pain in the ass to control the touchpad. And this is isn't just smooth, it's a glossy almost glass-like surface. Ugh, I just cringe thinking about using it.
Finally! I've been waiting so long for these!
Very cool looking.
Insert American comment asking, "Why so much for this laptop?" Same as when predicting US prices based on, or analyzing prices, overseas when they look at Euros/Pounds/Won.
hokage approved
Mmm, not to keen on the looks but then I've never really liked Acer's design efforts...especially the Aspire range. I think the Timeline range are the best lookin of the lot.
Ugly.
Damn, I never would have thought Acer would make such a design, I expect that out of a Vaio or Apple. Kudos Acer, your really stepping up your game and it shows, how your 2nd in computer sales worldwide. Shoot for the top!
Only way I can describe my feelings towards this laptop and it's design: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_9xzhrPA6veI/SmA9QH6QdXI/AAAAAAAACB0/Udl0LMNtTn0/s400/wtf+is+this+shit+piccard.jpg
@mtnDewFTW
I remember that episode from STNG. It's where Picard "begs" for counselor Troy's mom back. He throws his dramatic play acting into high gear. STNG is win.
I think it's a very beautiful laptop, something Acers aren't generally known for XD
I think it's kitsch. They try to make it simplistic (vaio like) but then they add a horrible futuristic looking touchpad and use over 4 color variations on the laptop. Design fail IMHO
it's so nice laptop am buyng it ..
I hope it will support RAID 0 feature and up to 8GB RAM !
eem one thing will it support USB 3.0 ?
