Reports of webOS 1.4.1 update now coming in, Update: 1.4.1.1 available for Sprint
It doesn't appear to do anything groundbreaking like overclock your Pre, but it looks like the webOS 1.4.1 update is now starting to trickle out to at least a few lucky users. According to PreCentral, one of the first reports to come in was from a Pre user who also happened to be one of the first to get the webOS 1.4 update while he was in Vietnam, and has now managed to snag the 1.4.1 update while residing in Holland. That was later followed up with a second report from a Sprint customer in Washington, but things seem to have been relatively quiet since them. Still no official word from Palm either, but the update does seem to be as minor as the number revision suggestions, with it weighing in at just 6MB. Receive yours yet? Let us know in comments.
Update: So that's what the update does -- according to Recombu, the update should allow European webOS users to finally spend their hard-earned quids and Euros on paid apps. PreCentral additionally reports that O2 Germany customers can now download the Mobile Hotspot app. Cheers!
Update 2: We're getting a 1.4.1.1 10mb patch on our Sprint Pre as we speak, while a list of changes has arrived on Palm.com with one notable difference -- the old NFL Mobile App has been renamed Sprint Football Live -- but otherwise it appears to be the same. Meanwhile the word on PreCentral is that Verizon customers may be in for a wait of up to a few weeks for their own update, so slowing the pace of update checks to just once every 5 minutes would appear to be a reasonable course of action.

if this breaks overclocking then im just going to stick with 1.4, the 800 patch is great.
@badjokes
1) The update will make you update automatically soon.
2) Uninstall the patch and a new one will be release (through Preware) very soon.
@badjokes
It's an amazing update! Feels like 800mhz in 1.4 using 1.4.1 without the patch.
commenting from my pre! Downloading it as I type. Holland, mi 49422
@John Stathakis Wtf, I live in Grand Rapids and I don't have the update.. D:
@John Stathakis
MICHIGAN REPRESENT IN DIS MUTHA TRUCKAAAAAAAAAAAH
Here in East Lansing, at the beautiful, wonder, Michigan State University. I've gotten the update, but I won't install it because I'm in love way too much with the 800MHz patch.
@John Stathakis you obviously aren't on your pre reading this, unless the update isn't finished yet, the engadget app is broken with the update as of right now.
@awezman oops, replied to wrong guy.
Charge your battery.
@yoavraccah that was the first thing I noticed...
@yoavraccah I think that that is how they wanted the screenshot to look.. u know it's making a point here.
downloading it as I type this from my pre. holland, mi 49422
Got it on Orange UK.
i have got the whole world in my hand err palm
@benderfender
Its "I've got"...
Grammar Nazi achievement unlocked!
@SolidSnake
Uh... "I've got" is just short for "I have got". It's not a grammatical mistake, although it is a tad awkward in the context.
Achievement revoked.
Perhaps "Quoted Lyrics Correction Nazi" would be a better achievement.
This update appears to enable international app catalog purchases. That alone makes it seem more than a x.x.1 update.
Updates for everyone!!!
If you're like me, you're just waiting to chuck your Pre when the Supersonic hits. I like the OS, but crappy phones and really slow updates from palm really killed my interest in this platform.
@lxnyce I'm in the same boat, really really pumped up for the HTC EVO 4G, but you can't say that Palm has been giving us slow updates. Compared to all the other major OS's, webOS has received the most in such a short time-span.
@RockNStuff
wait, slow updates? we (droid users) waited like a month after the 2.1 was rumored to get it, and iphone OS is only upgraded once a year...
@lxnyce
Have you not been paying attention? Palm updates WebOS very very quickly. It's not like we get 1-2 updates a year.
@lxnyce If Palm has slow updates, wait till you're stuck with Android 2.1 for a long time, even after Gingerbread and Honeybun get released.
Just sayin', Android isn't exactly quick about updating devices at this point, and Palm has already had 10 updates since June 6th, 2009, not counting WebOS 1.4.1.
@lxnyce Ok, I realize that they push out quick updates, but how much of those updates are really useful? I keep waiting for that killer thing from Palm, but it never comes. I consider 1.4 to be the only real major update, though I am still waiting on flash.
First the droid, now the pre? Let me guess. The iphone is getting an update next....oh wait nevermind.
@Frawley Won't it be upgradeable to 3.2 when the iPad comes out?
@ashleythehottiest That's only the newer model though, right? I wouldn't know I pretty much lost all interest apple once they announced the ipad.
hopefully it will fix the issues and bugs everyone's been complaining of... too bad for those who overclocked, but im sure palm's just updating, trying to fix things, not trying to stop the overclocking
@masta vaan
Fixes the major and a majority of the bugs. At least according to the release notes. Overclockers won't have to wait long to get an updated patch. WebOS patch makers work VERY quickly.
@joshuatopolsky
They heard your complaints, released updates even if it won't really address them.. :-/
With their finance they seriously need to licence webos to other OEMs, or make a load more different devices, that they can't afford..
The new 1.4.1 webOS update has broken my engadget app!! Just sticks on the loading screen!!!!!!
@AgentCharisma
That happens to me every now and then. I usually just quit it and reopen and it works.
@krische It's stayed busted for me ever since I updated today.

whatever it is, I hope it helps my Pre run faster. I like my Pre (this is my 4th one :-/ ) and webOS, it just runs slow, lags, and crashes sometimes. I'm not sure why, but it's getting frustrating. I'm starting to regret not getting the BB Tour.
So... Just international app support? What a pointless update!
I want my WiFi fixed! After I installed 1.4 WiFi sucks my battery dry! 10%-15% decrease PER HOUR! I have to leave it plugged in every moment I can. Plus my phone would freeze at least once a day and reboot itself. (That stopped happening after I turned off the WiFi)
So screw this piddly crap, give us some REAL FIXES! Fix my WiFi/battery drain issue. Fix the crashing!
@tavisjohn
That sounds like a pretty bad issue with wifi. Have you tried taking it to the store?
@krische When it comes to techinical stuff like this, the store has no idea. (I called and talked to a teck)
I have not had these issues untill te 1.4.0 update.
I even re-installed the OS on my phone just incase any "tinkering" I did early on was still lingering there causing problems.
However even BEFORE I installed any hacks or tweaks, the battery still drained out faster than any other version of the OS, and it still froze occotionally with the WiFi on.
@tavisjohn
have you gone into the pre's and set your wifi to turn off when the Pre is asleep?
@combouser Yes I tried setting it to "Sleep" and it did not make much difference with the battery usage, or the freezing & Rebooting.
The plural of quid is quid.
@Timmmmmm
Can't believe they've never heard the phrase "a few quid".
I'm not really sure what the update does. Can someone explain to mee.
I was somewhat hoping this would fix the issues with verizon's palm pre plus gps. I just bought two palm pres for $80 dollars, great deal, but the GPS, my god it's terrible. My iphone 3gs used to let me watch in realtime as my dot in google maps moved, my nokia 5800 was actually better at it if I recall correctly. But this pre, I'm lucky if it locks on if I'm standing in a field. I can put up with problems, but a gps needs to work on a smartphone. Palm doesn't need to keep up with android or apple, they could keep all their current features and just polish and end up at about the same place minus some useful apps. Just keep rolling out patches palm, and lowering the price of phones on contract, and you'll end up with a strong platform that will sustain you.
@nickyP I think that's more related to the fact that google maps blows on webos. Really wish google would update their app.
@krosref The awful google maps make me want to get a new phone, I used to have street view and be able to access my saved maps on WinMob, Pre's version is crap. My WinMob phone crashed all the time but I think I'm going to dump my Pre while I can still get a good price for it and wait for the EVO
This patch would have been better if it added new Palm hardware.
Is anyone else getting the 1.4.1.1 update?
@memphisANiD
I just got it! Keep checking the updates. Cuz 5 min ago I didn't have it.
That battery should seriously get charged.
