Rockchip's prototype RK2808-powered Android smartphone spotted... finally!
The Ramos W7 Android-powered MID has come to pass, but for the last year one question's remained: where is that RK2808-based handset we were promised? Finally Rockchip has provided us with some pictures of its prototype called, of all things, Smart Phone. There is a dearth of specs at the present time, but from what we do know it will have a predictable emphasis on multimedia playback (including H.264, RMVB, MPEG-4, AVS, WMV9, and 720p video). If you're a manufacturer (or would like to be), drop 'em a line -- presumably, you'll be able to get more complete specifications. And then be sure to drop us an email with the info. We'd appreciate it!

Where are the typical android buttons?
FUGLY.. but every phone pales in comparison since I fell in love with EVO.. SOLD!!
Plan: Mini Hadron collider in FULL EFFECT : )
@HerbieDerb Now you know why they called the thing EVO. We are all suppose to be Wall-E's...
@HerbieDerb that SOLD!! thing is getting really old really quick
@vqro
really really?
Indeed, have fun controlling this thing without search, home or menu buttons
What's so special about this?
@oproski well for people with more money it really isn't exciting but it'll help bring full blown android smartphone costs down toward where feature phones are. Most smartphones now are insanely expensive and rely on huge subsidies to sell.
I wonder, this site has so much info about cell phones...do we really need to know each time the cell phone industry gives out a little fart??
@JClaude There is a far more verity of info on cell phones...compared to other engadget is the least...(they still give a lot more info about it though, and besides it's fun..)
@JClaude At least we don't get the amount of spam about the i*** that we see on Giz. Anyway, even though this is a mockup prototype - it's ...
not... pretty.
why is the "call end" button on the right??
@TheSunman89 'cause that's where it belongs.
@johnnyb98604 SRY!! I meant the left because it had the bar thing below it to symbolize "turn off", and that's usually on the right instead of the left....
Looks ugly.
Evo newz plz
looks mad ugly...
Looks like a Dare. so 2007
The company provided you with pictures?? I think they need to focus on buying a better camera first. Looks like these were taken with a phone camera.
@Plazmic Flame Probably the same camera that's in the phone that's pictured.
BullSHIT!!!!!
Where's the fricken incredible?
looks like an old LG phone?
Looks like something I saw in a litterbox.
These photos were posted over at CPF at the beginning of the month: http://cellphoneforums.net/google-android/t309429-look-new-mystery-android-phone-photos.html
That phone is UGLY as sin.
looks similar in style to the LG Android
Looks like a black i900 Omnia.
Why this phone is remarkable is the rockchip is a highly capable multimedia playback chip that is extreamly cheap. so to put this in an android phone, we start talking about sub $100 unsubsidized android phones. To that not, i've never seen a capacitive rockchip device, let alone multitouch
