Those whispers you might have heard of a Pro version of Samsung's
delectable Galaxy S have just turned into a booming roar, thanks to
Eldar Murtazin apparently confirming the existence and prospective arrival of the rumored handset. According to the legendarily loquacious mobile reviewer, Samsung will be strapping a QWERTY keyboard onto the
already potent Galaxy S hardware and upping the pricing ante with an extra €50 (about $67) charge. He also manages to give us a June launch date, but pictures of this device are predictably not yet available. We'll just have to let our imagination do the work until
Mr. Blurrycam gets on the case. Screenshot of the relevant tweet after the break.
Update: HDblog.it has thrown up a pretty realistic (though fake) render of the rumored model, and if the real thing is anything like this, Sammy might have a contender on its hands. Now we sit and wait for June, eh?
Drool
The phone is in landscape but the image on screen is still in portrait...
...priceless.
oh Im sure it'll just have some boring flat black keyboard with all kinds of issues.
Damn. All these awesome Android devices hitting carriers this year. Let's not forget the Motorola Shadow (rumored to be the Nexus Two) and the Droid 2 which was also rumored by some higher up muckity muck in motorola to be in development during an interview.
f**k your galaxy. put 2.1 on the f--kin' moment Samsung. And get the f--kin bulgogi outta yer years.
INSTANT BUY.
This is it. This has everything I want....
Super AMOLED
Front cam for video calls
Qwerty
THIS IS IT. Even though I hate the Samsung UI, I can just root it for Sense UI or Vanilla Android....
@TareG: If only this phone was made by HTC, it would be just PERFECT!
All I want to know is which carrier is getting this phone in Canada?
Isn't this Eldar the same guy who said there wasn't gonna be a Nexus One sold by Google?
Anyway, Not a fan of Samsung phones. Why they're #2 is beyond me,who is buying their phones?
@bustafone Um, the US is buying, where they happen to be #1, plus many parts of the rest of the world.
Was just checking out the video here...
http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/video-ctia-samsung-galaxy-s-walk-through-most-powerful-phone-yet
seems a little (or very -- check out 4:57) slow/unresponsive in this demo
@mpv Engadget reported that they played around with multiple phones (3 IIRC) and only Chris Zigler had a slow model. There might be a software or hardware problem, they still have time to fix.
As much as I roll my eyes at this Eldar dude's rumors, it would be a pretty killer phone if it were true. 4" SuperAMOLED, 1GHz processor with considerably more graphics power than Snapdragon, Android, AND a pull out keyboard?? I might just sell my HD2 for that one.
....right after someone posts a custom ROM that doesn't have Samsung's garbage UI on top of it.
@DeekoVB5
that last bit is the key here, give me sense ui or a way to disable samsungs strange ui and a way to get android updates and i'm sold but i don't want a device like the first galaxy with no software support at all
If its possible to get rid of the buttugly UI and get Sense on that thing... Hubbard Hubbard indeed.
It really doesn't need one... although that is an absolutely FABULOUS looking keyboard you've photoshopped in there, lol...
I bought a G1, being a die-hard keyboard guy of BlackBerry descente.
I never use my keyboard, because the virtual keyboard is so good, figures out what word you are typing even when you miss and hit adjacent letters left and right, and guesses ahead letting you poke the long word you no longer ever have to type. It truly is awesome, and I'd trade my G1 for a MyTouch in a heartbeat for the smaller/lighter form, honestly.
Finally. Big screen, powerful processor, Android and QWERTY. Maybe this could be my first Samsung phone
why isn't htc into physical keyboards anymore? i would kill for an evo 4g with keyboard and gsm.
@MangoPants that would be a killer device, maybe add a little unibody magic ;)
Single thought comes to mind:
G1 replacement. FINALLY!
Sure the EVO is better, but I'm sure the battery-life on this will be 2x better and the screen is just gorgeous.
@recharged95 Evo's graphics are nearly 1/4 the power of this phone, has no QWERTY, no super AMOLED. The only thing it has in my opinion is sence UI but who knows what samsung has really even put on there. And WiMAX??? is going to die out as soon as LTE hits and is only in a handful of locations, (not where i live) anyway. I may break down and get the EVO cuz it's sweet, but i'm gonna try to be strong and wait for June!
Good. There needs to be a high-end Android phone with a real keyboard besides the Droid.
Put Win7 Series on it?
Screw it, I'm tired of calling it "Windows 7 Series", it's a freakin mouthful. I'm just gonna call it WinMo7, I don't care what Microsoft thinks.
Has anyone else noticed that the weather on the phone is 21°C and snowing?
@bottledentropy - In Las Vegas too of all places! Not sure what the graphic artist was thinking. ;-)
Now THIS I am interested in!!
The question I dread asking though:
What carrier is this rumored to come out for??
Nice, but I'd rather carry a phone less useful for fending off attackers. At some point these big touchscreens are going to be just too big. :/
I tipped you guys on this one right after the tweet appeared, almost a full day ago, keep up people ;)
Sounds like an awesome phone though.
this thing is HOT. Super strong hardware + android + keyboard? WOOWSOASAS
I hate having to pick between the 4G hotspot on the EVO and the keyboard on the galaxy S pro.
This looks cool!
I have a HTC TP2 (Verizon) and by and large am happy with it. Upgraded to WM6.5, which seems fine. But this phone? Yeah, I'd likely sell the TP2 for it in a second.
That said, and I know this'll cause all sorts of ire in some folks here, but if Apple put a real keyboard on their iPhone I'd buy one immediately. To each their own on virtual/on-screen keyboards, but I can't stand them. Sure, they're fine for short notes, etc; but for writing a proper email, letter, etc? Hell no. (FWIW I have an ipod touch and used it a lot... just couldn't get used to tapping out letters on the screen)
Of course the resistive screen on the TP2 vs. the iPhone, or anything else with a capacitive (?) screen plays a big part too in the over all touch screen experience... can only imagine the screen on this Samsung would be pretty damn amazing. :-)
Definitely keeping an eye out for this to replace my G1!
Am I the only one who thinks that there's a point where a phone is just too big? The iPhone was just that for me. There's no way I'd be able to carry around an HD2, Xperia X10, or Galaxy S. Maybe a Droid or a Nexus One, but this is just too damn big.
