@NaJaKwa
He's just upset "According to Jim" was cancelled.
Is this really "Top News" *sigh*
@Kinte Kunta Actually Apple is the only one that DOESN"T DO PRODUCT PLACEMENT. Apple provides product but has never paid for placement. Never. The reason Apple product show up on TV is they look good and producers and writers love them.
@TRRosen You must have missed the point, apple not paying actually makes the process MORE shady.
Nice
I'm from the U.K, can someone tell me what the fuck this program is?
@appleofglasgow
It's a sitcom on ABC called Modern Family. Wiki it. Hulu/ABC have the shows online.
I may get hated on. I hate that it's just a big iPod touch.. I hate that it's a little underpowered. But I really, really secretly want an iPad.
I just don't want to pay for it..
If you look, Phil's son Luke has an iMac on his desk in other episodes, as well as Manny (Phil Dunphy's Father-in-law's step-son). The logos are always obstructed from view or covered up, although maybe that won't be the case anymore?
This was an awful episode, so much potential and while I understand product placement they went way overboard especially near the end. Especially after the travesty known as V came back, combined with Lost failing 8/10 times, I don't know how ABC even survives outside of their chick shows.
Too bad, I love this show. I've never noticed product placement on it and they go and make it blatant as hell!
@anus1220
Im watching this show right now!
SOOO FUNNY!
@anus1220
you've never noticed product placement on this show?? wow. i've mostly noticed cars. for example, in one scene cameron accidentally locks lily in his bright red, brand new malibu just so he can call OnStar to have them remotely unlock it for him. cue domestic awe and chevy shopping. the new sienna placement a few episodes back was just as blatant. they had claire using the built-in bluetooth for the phone, etc, with long, lingering camera shots of the exterior. mitchell's 2010 prius is often in focus, too.
(i had to use imdb to get the character names right, but i do love this show.)
@dantzig
You're wrong. This was a blatant product placement. The focus of tonight's episode was the Apple thingie. It was so "in your face" that after a while I was tired and couldn't enjoy the jokes.
If you can use products in an organic way it's fine. Yes we have seen Prius, OnStar, bluetooth and whatnot but they never make the episode about THOSE products, do they? They have iMac on their homes but you don't see them mentioning "Oh I'm going to use the iMac to make my homework."
this show looks horrible?
@Blaugrana23
No it's actually pretty good.
@pvito
I AM SO WRONG! amazing show, just watched an episode on Hulu... ty Engadget, i found a new show :)
Dammit why does he get his early....
For a while I thought about getting one - I'm in animation, so it looked like a cool/fun toy to have at meetings... after seeing this, just shoot me if I think about buying one, that's exactly the types who'll be buying these - I'll remain a PC thank you.
i hope you haters at least invested in apple before all this ipad stuff. i know i did.
This episode made fire come out of my ears.
We don't have this show in Canada, but from this clip, it looks really awkward.
@MrAffrox
I disagree. I watch it every week on shaw cable. Not sure which channel though off the top of my head.
@marcomera it's on citytv but yeah, you need cable, or you could just download it
Lucky kid.
I have to say, this device is growing on me. Damn you, Apple hype machine!
Some of the most offensive product placement I've seen.
This is an attempt at brainwashing today's youth, disgusting.
Looks like the screen turns blue off angle just like the iPod touch.
Rank me down, fanboys.
@Astounding The iPad has an IPS screen. It has absolutely no color shifting at all.
The product placement kind of worked! i changed my stance on the Ipad from "eehh, not that interested" to "eehh, ill get one when i have an extra few hundred bucks laying around"
@Karate Tortoise I like the iPad, but yeah, I gotta agree about the placement - it's actually worse than the 'Heineken' truck in Spider-Man, but not as bad as the Reece's Pieces in 'Mission To Mars'.
Have you noticed that the kid's holding the thing upside down?
I didn't like the episode, and because of it I probably won't get an iPad.
Delightful good fun.
To remind everyone Apple has a long standing policy against paid product placement. They just don't do it.
@TRRosen
Yeah, every Michael Bay movie features apple products because with their %6 market share they are the most pop- wait...
Ok, it's because their low price means they can get more of them due to cheap- wait again...
How is it damn near every movie and TV character uses an apple again?
@BadassSailor "How is it damn near every movie and TV character uses an apple again?"
Because every damn movie in the theater is written on a Apple notebook.
Once again for the record APPLE HAS NEVER paid for product placement. Its company policy. Check the end of all those movies and you will see "product/computers provided by Apple" never "promotional consideration paid for by" as would be the case if Apple had paid a dime.
@TRRosen It's still product placement whether you paid for it not. Apple is known for going around pushing their products free to be included in movies and television, brainwashing today's youth and birthing a new generation of gadget hipsters.
@TRRosen
If I give you aa $2000 item, it's like giving you $2000. That means paid. Are you mental or something?
Crap it's my birthday soon, I have to tell everyone not to get me an iPad.
All Apple product placement aside... love Modern Family!!
Hey, it's my birthday in two weeks!!
This should've been a normal ad. I just watched about 11 episodes yesterday to catch up to the season. This is shaping up to be like the macbook air, in my eyes at least. It's gonna be big on launch, but slowly forgotten.
Apple's placement EPIC FAIL.
I'm more interested in how Nilay doesn't have any TiVo ads when he pauses the show. :-)
normally these nauseate me, but Modern family is such an amazing show. :D
I REALLY love this show.
But damn, product placement ftl!
DAMMIT ENGADGET!!! I was in the middle of watching this episode DVR'd. You could have at least given me a spoiler alert or SOMETHING.
