It's certainly
not the first time we've heard of an automobile shipping sans a paper-based user guide, but unlike those other guys who toss you a CD-R with a couple of PDFs on there, Hyundai is seriously upping the ante with its 2011 Equus. Revealed today over at the New York Auto Show, the company announced that the aforementioned vehicle would ship with an Equus Multimedia Tablet, enabling users to easily and quickly pull up a slew of information and diagrams about their new whip. The outfit's US president John Krafcik didn't specifically mention the brand or model of the tablet that'd be included, but the image shown to the crowd (and to you, above) certainly reeks of
iPad. What's even more interesting is that the tablet will be used as more than just an owner's guide, but as an interface for handling "customer / dealer interactions like scheduling service appointments." We suspect we'll hear more about what kind of device will be included as the vehicle's ship date nears, but if we were the betting kind, we'd say that a massive, undercover deal with Fusion Garage will put a
JooJoo into each and every Equus owner's hands. Kidding.
And the dealer added option will include a jacket for that for which you'll pay another $1000!
Ah video professor, you sly scum.
Now, I'm not gonna tell you that I'll make you the next millionare by selling an attic full of baseball cards - but I can guarantee you that I can teach you everything you need to know about eBay - like cleaning out your garage and probably putting some money in your pocket at the same time. Now, I can do this because I know that once you try my lesson on eBay, you'll be so satisfied - that the next time you need to learn anything about computers, you'll come back to Video Professor for all your computer learning needs.
What's the HORSEpower of that Equus?
@Smart People Play Tuba 385hp
@ashleythehottiest
Shouldn't it be 385e? e= equus?
@Smart People Play Tuba
I think you and I are the only two people here who know what Equus is...
@HaZaRd
looked it up
upranked for the pun
@Smart People Play Tuba lol equus win
That tablet in the picture looks like a widescreen.. :O :P
Why...a car company making a tablet computer...wow...
@TheSunman89 They aren't making it, they're throwing it in.
He wakes up screaming, "Ek! Ek! Ek!"
Hyundai is actually one of the better brands on the market today. They continuously rank higher than BMW and Land Rover in terms of quality year after year. This is pretty intriguing. And very sly on the part of Hyundai marketing to get a little free promotion TODAY, simply by mentioning "Pad"... you gotta give it to them. Pretty smart.
The only car I have ever owned from Hyundai was a 2008 Veracruz and it was a lemon. Never again.
@youngluck
@youngluck
We bought a brand new Santa Fe a few years ago. Biggest POS I have ever owned.
Never again.
When the novelty of that 'multimedia device' wears off, you're going to realize that you are, in fact, driving a Hyundai.
Car Marketing Attempt = Fail
@SaggyBalls
This is a $60,000 car
@whatpoint77 i still don't get who want to spend $60k on a Hyundai. usually when you spend that much money on a car you are buying it as a status symbol. and lets face it nobody buys a Hyundai as a status symbol. not saying its not a nice car but i don't really get it.
@whatpoint77
Oh come on Engadget viewers, down-ranked into oblivion? Must be a lot of geeks driving Hyundai's on these forums. I'm sticking with my comment, Hyundai's suck.
@kojo87
I agree that a $60,000 Hyundai is kind of an oxymoron. I don't understand why they don't go for the premium branding route (Toyota=>Lexus, Honda=>Acura) for their high end vehicles. I guess that will come shortly.
@kojo87
Hyundai makes some really nice cars right now.
The Equus car I saw last year was a damn fine car.
Wait til apples debuts the iCar... Just like a regular car but it will come with an ipad and charge you .99 cents for every left turn... And it'll cost 70000 dollars
gizmodo reported this a while ago basically saying that it IS an ipad... now i'm a bit confused
Before I read the story or click on any links, can someone tell me if any of this involves Harry Potter's wiener?
@sydcinema Is it sad that I actually understand this reference?
Watch out Apple, here come Hyundai :)
It's funny how all the iPad related posts are tagged (or filed) under 'Tablet PCs'.
Guess...El Jobso didn't notice that. :D
I have a Genesis Coupe v6.. all the hyundai haters can stfu.. it's an awesome car.
We also have a Vera Cruz, the fit and finish and problem free ownership of it made me consider the genesis, I liked it better then the z or infiniti.. really, they have come a LONG way since the original hyundai usa days.
@Newb0110 I got the Genesis 4.6 sedan when it launched. The haters don't like the fact that it has the same stereo as a Rolls Royce Phantom (Lexicon) and more features then a 7 series. I have turned the heads of BMW, Benz, and Audi drivers with it plenty of times and anyone who stops and checks it out loves it. Reliability is frickin amazing and even when I had some trouble with the front dick brakes it was covered in full by the warranty and I got a loaner Genesis when it was being repaired. Yea 10 years ago Hyundai made small compact cars that were no frills, but today they make the best cars on the market. Oh and don't take my word for it, just google it.
@Chas Percodani front disc brakes**. God damn engadget EDIT FTW
this is such a april fools joke i cant even laugh (even though i did) there is no such car and they wouldnt just throw in a tablet just for scheduling appointments and such. good one though :0
@arrynyo2010 It does exist and it's already being sold in Asia.
uh oh... I saw a picture of a tank with a hyundai logo on it a few days ago... what does this mean??? :O
Oh god. Hot off the heels of bundle everything with a free iPod fad, the bundle everything with an iPad fad. I feel sick even saying that (the rhyming doesn't help). I hope this is an April fools joke.
Aside from the stupidity of this (I think I've looked at the owners manual on my car about 3 times in 8 years), it's incredibly wasteful. Earth gets fucked because Hyundai thinks it will look cool when their luxury vehicle is sold with an iPad. Barf.
iPad price would be included into the car price... No deal.
So that actually not a iPad at all if you look there is no home button which makes it look exactly like the HP Slate!
Is the users manual created with Adobe Flash?
