iPad apps now live in the App Store
Ready to start paying more for giant iPhone apps? Get that credit card ready -- tons of iPad apps are now live in the App Store, even though the iPad itself is under lock and key until Saturday. Lots of the expected stuff here, like Brushes, Twitteriffic, and the Wall Street Journal app, but there's a few things we're definitely interested in playing with, like the Desktop Connect VNC client, the ABC Player, and quite a few apps focused on printing. Yes, printing -- apparently the ability to print a document from the iPad will cost you at least $2, and probably more like $5. Magical and revolutionary, indeed. There's tons to look at, so hit the source link and let us know if you see anything interesting in comments.

There is still no iBooks app.
@CTTHosting
Also not seeing Netflix, CBS or ABC iPad apps...
There are 1,979 apps posted so far. Hopefully more to come?
@CTTHosting
Yes; the fanboys are ready to pay more.
@justinpe CBS is web based and this is ABC
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/abc-player/id364191819?mt=8
Netflix I don't see either
@CTTHosting aw, there it is. NBC has had an iPhone friendly site to watch new episodes of the office, parks and rec, tonight show, etc. for almost a year now. I wonder if they are working on anything specific for the iPad, or if we will just have to watch on the mobile site?
@DamnYourUgly
You can't even spell your nick right. No wonder you don't earn enough to spend a few bucks on some apps
@suicidebob
Maybe he's talking about your ugly (reproductive organ) like "Damn look at that dude's ugly", instead of trying to say you ARE ugly.
@CTTHosting
Some of you guys are forgetting that all Apple does is approve these Apps, Developers set the prices, Which means they can get pretty high, or as low as free.
@CTTHosting
Bend over...there's an app for that.
@CTTHosting
Netflix: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/netflix/id363590051?mt=8
awesome...
@CTTHosting:
Find my car app?
HAHA, I'm sorry, but I will seriously point and laugh at any person I see walking around staring at their iPad trying to locate their car
@steve w
Thanks for the update. Before I just got the "This Item isn't Available..." message.
@CTTHosting Free Netflix App is here. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/netflix/id363590051?mt=8 ... Can people stop the hate now?? No ... ok.
@suicidebob
Does it have to be DamnYouAreUgly or DamnYou'reUgly? And oh, DamnYourUgly, bob!
@CTTHosting
what a joke, $10 for tetris LOL
cant believe people will waste money just because its that easy
@d889 Agree, as for the order sales tomorrow, I think I won't get an iPad until I see the 2nd gen version. Reactions to iPad: http://bit.ly/ipad-going-real-opinions
Pay to do things you can do on an ordinary device? It must be nice having the pockets lined so well over at Apple.
@pingu324: Good luck ipad adapters.
@pingu324
Prices will drop dramatically after a few weeks. Admittedly these app developers are being quite greedy. $8.99 for the iPad edition of "find my car". Talk about a facepalm of epic proportions.
@crawdad689 and the sad thing is, people will buy it
@HighestRanked2
+1
The anti-apple fanboi is a gajillon times worse than the most rampant Apple fanboi (and I can't stand either)! :P
This is the exact same thing that happened before the iPhone was introduced.
"It's too expensive!" "It's so crippled"..... Then within a year, Apple addressed both of those issues.
This device WILL have multitasking in no more than 4 months, and it WILL see a significant price drop in no more than 12 months. Then the haters will need to think of much less material reasons why it is the worst device ever made, such as the fact that everyone who owns one loves it.
@crawdad689 Wouldn't it just be easier to activate your car alarm, or idk maybe remember where you parked your car. Most of the people that can't remember where they parked their car aren't gonna be using an iPad (i.e. old people).
@crawdad689 If you are an ifan, just ignore those ihaters.
@crawdad689
No way are you going to see a significant price drop in 12 months. Maybe $50 but that is it. I believe it when I see the Kindle DX drop in price but no sooner. Apparently, it is expensive to produce that glass.
@crawdad689
I think you might be confused on the definition of the word fact. You are also acting as if people who don't want an iPad are just doing to spite you and Steve Jobs. Accept the fact that a lot of techies don't like it. You are on a site directed at techies, so it's no surprise a lot of people here a disappointed.
@morphoyle
I think a lot of people are a little less disappointed after today. See Netflix, CBS, Hulu, NBC, ABC, all FREE.
@dio777
The glass isn't that expensive. iSupply says the $499 iPad costs only $229.35 to make. That leaves a huge margin to drop the price if they want to sell more devices. They could drop it to $299 and still make a killing.
@morphoyle
That's a fair point. I can fully understand somebody's reluctance to spend $500 on what is absolutely a novelty.
I was responding to peoples' conjecture that this device will "fail", which I take to be their belief that this thing will never sell well, and will receive terrible review after terrible reveiw.
@pingu324 And was that ordinary device that you can do the stuff others want to do on the iPad free? At some level you'll have to pay for a device AND pay for software to use on that device, iPad or not... be realistic dude, don't be a putz.
@pingu324 Oh bitter PC fanboys, get over it. You'll have Winmo 7 out soon to defend.
@inertone Just because you say they will, doesn't make it so.
@HighestRanked2 Sorry, as my point seems to have been misinterpreted. What I meant to refer to was not the price of the apps, albeit, yes some are oddly high, but the fact you have to buy an app just to print stuff off (ie, maps, documents etc)? That just seems like such a money grab for such a basic feature that should be readily accessible as with any other devices used, at least they don't charge you to print from their Macbooks etc.
@crawdad689
unless you are referring to a different group of people than those typically called "fanboys", it doesn't make sense to use the spelling "boi", which is commonly used in the lgbt community. just sayin.
@crawdad689 HEAR! HEAR! and to all the haters: is there anything you crow about that cannot be fixed with a software update?
I wonder if the printing apps charge you each time you print a page.
@eDan Possibly .. they have to make more money somehow other than leeching every single pint of blood from your body.
MOAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@eDan They don't charge you anything if you don't buy an iPad.
Cost to print?? Basic functions costing more?! Who invented this scheme?!!
Seriously though, good to see Twitterific is still free. I'll definitely be screwing around with it on my friend's iPad.
@Plazmic Flame
Sounds like a functionality gap that is being exploited by developers, which is fair enough but you have to think that this functionality sound already be in the applications like Pages. I guess we wait for the release to see what it really can do out-of-the-box.
It will be interesting to see the iPad being used as a GPS navigator!
@Saad I know right! This would be amazing for journeys with a copilot.
@mark29
TomTom, if you are reading, I will pay up to £200 for a TomTom iPad cradle.. I want one of these in my car.. ;)
@Doobry
Oh, forgot to add, I will however, not pay a single penny for the iPad version of the TomTom app as I've already paid for it on the iPhone;)
Apple Haters must be seething. The reviews are in guys and no one cares about the things you claim it is supposed to do. Just embrace the new tech. I have no doubt the farmers raising horses for pulling buggies were upset too when Henry Ford came along.
Love it.
@Mactacular
So if Ford decided to sell the Model T instead of a Mustang, you'd be okay with that?
@Dr Blight Good Try. A Mustang wasn't around when it was time for the horse & buggy to go away. That's like saying I won't get my son a red wagon because it isn't as good and do as many things as a red fire truck. Somehow the Apple Haters believe the world revolves around them wanting to do line code manipulation custom configuration and so on. It has been proven time and again the masses are where the real numbers and the profit is. Look at the Japanese car makers. Three models. Not a factory with 300 possible configurations.
@Mactacular
What new tech? I hate to be repetative, and say this is just a big iPod Touch, but if people insist on calling this things new and magical and revolutionary, I'm going to have to keep saying it is just a big iPod. Sorry, but there you go.
Also, Good Game on not having basic print functionality built in. After 80$ extra I'll be able to hook up a bulky, ugly, wart adapter for a USB port, and print some images from my camera if I am lucky.
@Mactacular
Exactly. This device will eventually be just as popular of a product as the iPod. Not this year, priced at $499, but in 2 years when they introduce an even better model for only $249, and in 10 years, when their entry-level device only costs $99, they will be as ubiquitous as the present-day iPod, absolutely.
As a subway-commuting Manhattanite, I can guarantee you that I will see more iPads in the next 2 months, than I have seen Kindles since their inception.
Anyone who hasn't come to the realization that this is a winning (meaning that they will sell boatloads of them.... not meaning that YOU personally necessarily agree that it's the device of the century) think it's the bestproduct needs to wake up. In this form factor, for the vast vast majority of consumers, things like display quality, battery life, and ease-of-use far outrank things like lack of multitasking.
@(Unverified)
Why do you need to say anything? You're a nobody on a blog. No one really cares. Steve Jobs doesn't give two shits about people like you
@crawdad689
Well, I'd agree with you if it were $199. But it isn't. This is a $500 and above item. And tech ignorant people are not going to purchase one , day 1, without doing a little thinking. Sure you will have your gadget loving die-hards buy one even though they have no clue about its limitations....but I feel at this price point, a LOT of people are going to ask themselves..."why do I want this, and what would I do with it" , and in answering those questions, the lack of muti-tasking, and other restrictions which you wouldn't get with a normal netbook or laptop, are going to be a major consideration.
