We've crossed the finish line at last! How is it on the other side? You tell us! We just put down plastic for one and had it activated at the Apple Store, so stand by for pictures and videos from that unparalleled experience. The "activation" process is just plugging it into a computer with iTunes for the first time, so that you can walk out of the store with the device turned on. After the unit is up and running you can dive into the App Store, where you're prompted for a free download of iBooks. It's all smooth sailing from there.

Well its 5pm in NYC and two Apple stores I called said they had them in the store for purchase...so I guess its not a sell out.

That's not the point. From what I've been told the ipad is well on it's way to sell a million units in under 60 days. Not bad for a $499 and up device...the available stock simply means how good Apple's supply chain is.

I believe it doesn't come with any earbuds whatsoever.
wich actually may be an improvement, since it saves the consumer the effort to throw them to the trash. Or burn them just to be in the safe side.
Heck, that even prevents you from accidentally putting them on.

I was just at the Apple Store in LA, and it was just a little crowded -nothing huge. I got to sped a good chunk of time checking the iPad out!

so, why do i have to activate a ipad/iphone? i can't find the use for apple of this procedure.... wheres the value of that activation for apple? i seriously can't find it. and why somebody has to do that in the apple store?!?! this is a serious question, because i don't understand that!
I like its weight. 1.5 oz only! The lightest 10-incher netbook is 2.2 oz. On the shoulder it's a big difference.
