Well, well -- what have we here? A little digging into the mainframe that lies beneath Apple's freshly launched
iPad has uncovered a few telltale signs of next-generation hardware, and while this is obviously in no way confirmation that new wares are on the way from Cupertino, this
kind of stuff has led to similar reveals in the past. If we're seeing this right, we're looking at not one, but
two new mentions of future iPhones (iPhone 3,2 and iPhone 3,3), alongside a new iPod touch (iPod 4,1) and... a future iPad (
iProd 2,1). 'Course, none of this gives us any indication of the all-important whos or whens, but at least this confirms that mythical creatures still exist in the hearts of those who believe.
By the way anyone else notice ipod 3.2 and 4.1? Maybe a GSM 3g iPod touch is on the way.
@ComeShot That would be an iPhone...
@ComeShot
An iPod Touch with calling capabilities? Huh, sounds somewhat familiar...
@madmac
As previously stated by PDA131:
1,1 = iPhone
1,2 = iPhone 3G
2,1 = iPhone 3GS
The iProd is the production nickname of the iPad. Before the ipad was launched in production it was known as the iprod - in other words, apple already has a new ipad in production possibly.
iProd, how dumb!
Is this to be used to prod all those 'i' Haters to buy their crap locked down products anyway? I don't care about the fanBOY's, it's too locked down period, just accept that apple sucks.
Can't change the battery much less add wallpaper without jailbreaking, how would you feel if M$ Windows was that locked down??? or MacOS X.... ??? What if M$ said sorry can't install Adobe (anything) unless we approve it, and only use SilverLight/M$ Word etc... ridiculous!!!
What about the iFPGA? I'm not well-versed with all the code names (heard about the iProd for the first time), but surely Apple's not getting down to making Gate Arrays?
@chiragsangani I wouldn't be surprised if this is referencing an FPGA used to simulate the A4 before it was fabbed.
I love that dinosaur.
Well this probably confirms the whole Verizon getting the next iPhone thing, and due to differences in CDMA and GSM, the two models are being classified at Apple as being different.
@kojo87
We should see what else he has to predict.
could make some money off of that.
@BrianH where the heck did my original comment go?
Engadget, thanks for deleting our comments. But its still 3 (three!) new Iphones and not two. Fix again ;)
HOLY SHIT APPLE IS MAKING NEW VERSIONS OF THEIR POPULAR PRODUCTS NO EFFING WAY WOW MIND-BLOWING
Nice, hopefully we can see what Apple has in store.
@Kwame Nkrumah
Aren't you a crazy dictator?
BGR is terrible.
Apple is planning future iPhone and iPod devices.
Yes, I know. It's a shocking revelation.
iProd 2.1 = iPad 3G?
@silentcygnus
No, that would probably be iProd 1,2 or even just iProd 1,1. Version changes like that are for big changes. The 3G iPhone didn't even get a new version number, just a version number change.
Wow. Seriously? An article stating that Apple is indeed working on newer versions of their products? Only morons who don't know that Apple releases almost on an annual scehdule would get so worked up over this...
http://www.tuaw.com/2010/04/01/confirmed-the-mythical-iprod-is-the-real-world-ipad/
Woah, so you mean, there will be future iPhones, AND they will all have dictionaries just like previous iPhones??? Somebody get me some morphene, I need to calm down.
i overheard some dudes at my local carphone warehouse mentioning "4g" and something about "wider but thinner", while staring at a pc screen.
i instantly thought "high res iphone"
Wow! So the NEW iPhone is coming to T-Mobile AND Sprint!?! That's freakin' AWESOME!
iProd, second from bottom??? LOL
I'm guessing the 3 iphones models would be:
WCDMA
CDMA
TD-SCDMA for China Mobile
The 'iFPGA' reference is interesting too. FPGAs are reconfigurable CPUs that can be turned into various types of processors in miliseconds, from DSPs to CPUs and more, including customized applications. This has a lot of possibilities for adding customized, tailor-made power to their applications in the form of a general purpose processor that reconfigures into application-specific processors on the fly.
I live in FL & ME because there is no AT&T service in ME, AT&T has decided I exceeded my off network unlimited minutes and cut me off if I am off network.
Will this restriction roll over to the 3g ipad. Does anyone know. I can't seem to get a straight answer from AT&T
I don't care what it really is, as long as David Letterman can still lick it and Colbert can make salsa with it
What do you mean by NESSIE???!!
I say Sherlock Holmes, you have cracked the case, a new iPhone you say? (Sarcasm) Jeez tell me something I don't know
tell me i'm not the only one who gets the apple developers joke on us?
iProd?
Its kinda like a fuck off logo.
took advantage of the fact that they could name stuff what ever they wanted since they're the programmers.
Its funny. I get it.
Someone agree?
@Jeff Kibuule
I just hope that the new iphone has more than just a updated software version. Front facing camera would be great but just a little more, id be down for a 64gb iphone.
@Jeff Kibuule
So what's the 3,1? If only the 3,2 and 3,3 are new?
they got new cpu, so why not....
