This one's fairly light on specifics, but HTC CEO
Peter Chou has given an interview to
The Wall Street Journal where he dropped a few interesting tidbits, the most notable being that HTC's growth in the US is apparently "faster than others." Exactly what that translates to in actual numbers is unclear, but Chou did say that HTC expects to ship more than the 5.5 million to 6 million smartphones it shipped in the US last year. That growth is apparently due in large part to support from Verizon and T-Mobile, which Chou says "started treating us as their first-tier suppliers last year" and gave the company some "strong momentum." Chou also went on to confirm that HTC will be introducing six new models for China in partnership with China Mobile this year, and that it's aiming to ship four to five million units to China annually by 2011.
HTC FTW. Smartphone innovation at it's best!
Anything else would be weird...or rigged. They're simply THAT awesome.
@Almo
It was listed as the fastest growing tech company in BusinessWeek's Info Tech 100. dun dun dun
@Almo
Absolutely...
I've owned one HTC phone or another at any time since ...
I'm sure I had one with me at birth... ;)
"Quietly brilliant" my ass. Its been LOUD AND CLEAR.
HTC HD2... BOUGHT!
HTC EVO 4G... SOLD!
@Almo
i love HTC, but i just wish in the future, and they probably wont, release phones that always have that ONE flaw. with my old tilt it was video acceleration drivers that didn't at all work, even though there was video acceleration hardware on it. with my tilt 2 now, its a bluetooth driver that doesn't at all work with bluetooth headphones, and i know a lot of people are having problems w/ car stereos etc. love u htc, but at the same time, u really do piss me off a lot
Dear HTC,
Please call Jon. Tell him WebOS will be awesome on an EVO (cos it would). Repeat until deal has been struck.
xoxoxo

@redman12
Man, if they would freakin' finally release the Incredible on Verizon, that growth would be even faster!
@Darkroom +1
@Darkroom I agree, make the EVO the superphone for all! :) A comparison with other top smartphones today: http://bit.ly/evo-4g-phone-comparisson
I'm very happy for the success of HTC
@Almo
HTC ANDROID FTW....... Bring on the Android 3.0 devices with front cams before the iPhone HD plzzzz
Dear Peter Chou,
In case you havent heard, I plan on carrying my HD2 and EVO on either side of my hips and having both 4.3” screens directed at each other thereby creating a mini Hadron collider. The protons crashing into each other will create mini black holes in my pelvis/abdominal region and over time transform me into Seth from Street Fighter 4. Thank you for giving me superpowers.
xoxo

@Very Powerfull Codfish
I completely agree. HTC is the leader of smartphones, and I think it will stay that way for a while (after people get their heads away from iPhones-I like Apple, but they aren't impressing me anymore.)
HTC just needs to make a new and radical device (not a big touchscreen, no matter how big [iPad])
P.S.-40% of the reason I commented was to type your name.
This is indeed a company with attitude.
@Zordon
With GOOD attitude.
@Sogeking
I would have sex with that little Taiwanese man. I love HTC so much.
@Eggie197 LOL that is wrong in so many ways. What's even worse I love HTC almost enough that "I would have sex with that little Tawianese man"
@Eggie197 hahahahahahaha
now thats dedication
They make some really nice smart phones so this doesn't surprise me.
@ChrisMav
It could be the same in the UK I'm sure - but they have like, no ad campaign here.
Most people I talk to over here reply "H-T-Who?"
@FORDY I have to agree, HTC barely advertise in the UK, although recently they have had a few adverts on tv.
With the right advertisement in the UK, they could easily be one of most popular phone makers!
@FORDY
They do show the HTC quietly brilliant ads on TV and bus stops/ billboards. The crying shame in the UK is Android has had little to no advertising most people don't understand what it is, come on Google start celebrating Android everywhere !
@ChrisMav
Peter Chou could kick Steve Jobs' ass..
Damn straight!!
HTC makes THE best products in the US. They combine 3rd Party software and make it their own, and stab it onto some killer hardware!
What more can one ask for?
@RockNStuff more? perhaps pics of their next gen phones... all i got is this *sigh*

@buoy
So the HTC HD3 could be the Zune HD2? The amount win there would be immeasurable.
@Aurailious Agreed.... really want to get a htc phone for wp7 but it has to have super amoled. HTC with that screen tech would be unstoppable.
@buoy I dont think this can be real, because it has no real headphone jack, and I don't think they would go backwards, back to the horrible usb plug for headphones
Looks like a droid screen, too square
@buoy That phone is a WiMax enabled HTC Max 4G - It was released for Yota (WiMax service provider) in Russia last year.
@Valicore wait... Russia had a 4G phone last year O_o man! sux to be us!
I wonder how the dynamics will change if/when AT&T loses iphone exclusivity. Will we still see huge advertising campaigns from the likes of Verizon like the one they did for the Droid?
Theyve been putting out the highest quality phones anyone can get for awhile now. ive dropped my diamond like 200 times on concrete and its still going strong
@IAMKITTY hell, i've dropped my N1 a thou times and it is like new.
@scioncas haha. im pretty sure mine is somehow water resistant too
@IAMKITTY
hell my magician (read 2003 release) is still going strong, love your work HTC
With Windows Phone 7, they'll get even more popular! Can't wait!
HTC's products are true innovation. They make the best and most robust products.
When I was in the market for a phone...I shortlisted 2 phones, both HTCs - Nexus One and HD2.
They are really growing faster than anybody else that is why Apple got 'scared' and filed a lawsuit against them to put a brake on them.
Look at their latest product...HTC EVO. It's truly remarkable and stuffs in everything you want for a smartphone. Even the Apple iPad does not have so many features as the EVO and it's half the size.
HTC has come a long way from manufacturing WinMo handsets in the good old days to now where they span Android and WinMo handsets which are real Game Changers.
@viditbhargava
yea, once the EVO 4G launches, their market share will increase 10 fold.
I am ready to jump ship from my 3GS once Sprint lets this bad boy out! -:)
I call a Caption Contest on that picture! The man is clearly a badass!
@RenegadeRunner
SUP
@RenegadeRunner
Yeah, I see what you mean. I wouldn't want to bump into him on the street while I'm holding an iPad. I'd have to play possum!
@RenegadeRunner "When you roll with an HTC phone, you don't have to wear pants."
@RenegadeRunner
He looks like an Asian version of Tony Soprano.
it's quietly brilliant
Android v WP7S
winner? HTC
@JeremyBenthem Hapily you can drop the S out of WP7S. It's now just Windows Phone 7.
@JeremyBenthem
real winner? consumer
I believe you're missing the full statement. Headline should read:
HTC says its growth in the US is 'faster than others... so suck it, Apple!'
HTC EVO > Your Life
I'm very happy for HTC, they make some pretty nice phones; but I hope they understand they may not want to depend to much on US consumer, as we tend to be very unforgiving at times. And also move from one so called hot product to another after a few years...
