A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

My interest level is increasing. As soon as we get some information on just what a jailbreak for the iPad can do, I'll consider buying one. The only reason I don't jailbreak my iPhone is because if it crashes/freezes/whatever, I can't receive calls (which, surprising to some, is the main focus of the device). The iPad is a totally different story.
Now it's actually going to be somewhat useful.
@Greenarcher
Yeah for 0.00001% of the people.
You won't have to jailbreak hp slate. Plus, it can run your favorite app and browser.
Oh, it supports flash and can be hackintoshed too!
@iluvms
I still prefer the concept of the Courier over the HP Slate lol
@iluvms Have fun with the on screen keyboard.
@iluvms
^^
This commercial brought to you by HP. HP: See all the Amazing things people are doing. Buy online or Call 800-BUY-MYHP
@Sled ..and have fun with that useless, good-for-nothing device. Not even for p*rn.
BTW, the on screen keyboard on windows 7 is pretty accurate
@iluvms
lol, never said I was going to buy an ipad.
w7 onscreen keyboard is junk.
cheers
Very Happy!
I love this. The Devteam are the robin hoods we need. I'm all for apple making money and all, but simple things like milt tasking and widgets? They are forcing us to jailbreak. I for one am grateful for the work these guys are doing.
I plop down 7-bones on the first day this thing is out and I can't listen to pandora wile web browsing? Ridiculous!
Oh... And did you all notice apple killed the "dashboard widgets" program that looked promising the other day? Reason? They are working on somethimgnlike that. None sense again.
DevTeam... Keep on keeping on!
I've been thinking about jailbreaking my iPhone for a while now. My contract ran up this month and I've moved onto a monthly rolling contract ready to start a new one in June/July if a new iPhone comes out. I may give jailbreaking this one a go once I get a new one. If that goes ok I may try jailbreaking the iPad once I get it.
@summerboy18 Get a JooJoo! You'll be one of the 90 people on earth who actually ordered one of these. Imagine the tidal wave of useful apps developers will be making for the 90 of you.
I'm not saying being popular makes it better, but there is strength in numbers...
Such a shame that ZuneHDs can't get jailbroken since they barely have apps :[ I own one...
@summerboy18
So when you want to run something offline you just.... oh, wait.
@jimmylittle Joo joo is poo poo
I love hackers.
Why do people still not understand that most Flash stuff out there won't be usable nor accessible using a touch screen interface? This really drives me crazy!
Most flash applications rely on ex. the hover state of a mouse, which obviously isn't possible in case of touch screen devices.
All these people screaming for flash on iPhone & iPad will see what it's all about, when this magical Full Flash Player (not yet released by Adobe for any handset...) comes to a jailbroken device. Maybe ever the jailbreakers will hold their efforts on it because they see, it actually doesn't make much sense.
@mactechgeek Yeah, I think the purpose of a Flash jailbreak would be just for sites that have Flash videos, or for sites where you have to be able to get past a Flash screen to get to the rest of the site. NOT for interactive Flash--Apps will take care of that.
@MrSmartyPants Sure, you're right. Just wanted to make clear that most Flash stuff won't actually be a nice experience on touch screen devices. And as for video it's so good to see Apple making content providers and web designers (like me) move to implement modern, open and cpu/energy efficient web standards instead of Flash. The effect these few flash-less devices had on webdesign and the spreading of HTML5 can't be overestimated. Just my 2 cents.
@mactechgeek
Maybe because some of us already have tablet devices supporting flash and know that you're just plain wrong. Hover states are for buttons, most games use motion and clicking, basic things that a swipe and tap can accomplish. With the new flash releasing in a week or two any slight point you are trying to make is gone since flash will now support touch interfaces natively as well as publishing native iphone/ipad apps.
@SolidSnake
I think he's being sarcastic. Even summerboy ain't stupid enough to buy a JooJoo
If it becomes widely known that a lot of people are jailbreaking the iPad, maybe Apple will open up the platform at least to the extent of allowing Flash. Flash is Jobs' White Whale.
(BTW, am pro-Apple, not a hater at all, I have an iPad on order).
@MrSmartyPants
yeah like jobs cares about these 2bit shit jailbreakers
0:45 was a respring? That was soo fast..
@AndreyATGB
True, that was pretty damn fast!
@hated one
Yes.
Yes.
Yes, there are dirty ways to get that.
What were you trying to say in that last line?
Exactly?
It's likely Apple didn't intend to make it difficult to jailbreak. I'm sure the engineers and top brass at Apple are well aware of the tech community's caveats with the device. The people who have no business futzing with the file system will be kept out. The more tech savvy will be able to get more out of the device. It'll generate additional device sales and still make sure their primary user base isn't bothered with such rudimentary elements such as actual file access. I look at it kind of like when Microsoft used to practically encourage piracy at one point. Gotta love this quote - Bill Gates on Piracy: "They'll get addicted, and then we'll collect". ie, the more people that are using our product, the better, regardless of how they're using said product.
While I wouldn't even consider purchasing a first gen, I do feel like this could turn out to be a fantastatic product once the money grab cycle is through and they actually add the functionality and accessories (camera, hdmi out, sd card slot, more ram to support efficient multitasking, etc.) that will open a slew of new potential uses.
@Snow02 Yeah, I've never gotten the impression that Apple really cares THAT people jailbreak.
They sometimes care HOW people jailbreak because sometimes it's a pretty big security hole (i.e. jailbreakmenow.com or whatever that was). Physical access + a USB connection… not a real big concern.
@Bskballa92 "Ok so is jailbroken ipad o reared or what?????"
Makes perfect sense to me.
I've had pretty bad experiences jailbreaking. Most of the software is buggy or slows everything down. Winterboard used to crash my phone at least 25% of the time when I was trying to answer an incoming call. Really if you want to tinker just get something else. (incidentally, lots of the tinkering stuff on Android does the same thing. Randomly Dolphin on my Android started crashing after installing some apps. No clue what caused it. Couldn't figure out how to fix it. Had to whipe/re-flash the firmware. Reinstalling the app didn't help. Who has time for this crap?)
What a stud.
Engadget geek porn.
That was fast
@hated one wth has that got to do with anything? *coughtrollnewbcough*
I can see how well mobilecinema teams flash plugin will be working on ipad now.
How about jailbreaking the god damned iphone 3.1.3?
@sommerchan
mine is jb'd, courtesy of Redsn0w. you should try it. (not 3gs tho).
@hardluckstories
Mine also is 3G and not 3GS, I beg of you to help.
Does jailbreaking void the warranty?
@dfc Yes
@assb10yr
Thanks for your answer.
From what I read this thing is welded shut. You can't open it to replace the battery yourself. You need to take it to the service for that.
I guess you'll have to think twice about jailbreaking if you want to enjoy your ipad in case the battery dies.
@assb10yr not if you plug into iTunes and hit restore.
Making it back into an unjailbroken device covered by warranty.
You'd have to be an idiot to mess up a jailbreak so much that you couldn't do that.
Jailbroken iPad......fuck yeah!
Hope the jailbreak is out just in time for iPad U.K release!!!
Emulators here we come!
ProSwitcher wil be SICK

All I want is backgrounder, Sbs settings and ability to save attachments in mail. I could even forgo multitasking since it's only used to stream pandora and ootunes but having to exit out my apps to change settings is a real PITA.
well its about time!
:P
