Screen Grabs: LeBron James overlooks iPad at MLB season opener
Screen Grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.
Never mind that Bron Bron and company got handled today when facing the Celtics -- the NBA's biggest star (yeah, we said it) made a pit stop at Major League Baseball's 2010 season opener tonight in order to plug Dr. Dre's (grossly overpriced) new cans, sport a Louis Vuitton zip-up and not care one single bit about a nearby iPad. During a shot up to a luxury box at tonight's Yankees vs. Red Sox matchup, LeBron was seen glancing in the direction of an iPad that was actually being shown off to someone else, but rather than drooling over Jobs' latest magic trick, he casually withdrew and returned to his conversation with Dre. Don't believe us? Have a gander at the video just past the break.[Thanks, Noah]

he is getting up in that things grill
@uck I just feel Engadget is acting like a bunch of high school girls that are stalking this guy and checking him out every 2 seconds and checking who he is looking at, who looked at him, what was said....
Jessika: Did you see how Brenda looked at iPad? She was totally checking him out!
Patty: I don't think so, was she?
Regina: Hello? Of course, you know iPad is the hottest! Everyone is looking at him! Is he looking at us????
Jessika, Patty, Regina: OH MY GOSH!!! iPad is looking at us!!!! (yay-yay dance)
Patty: Wait, I think he is looking at the cafeteria menu that is on top of us.
Jessika: Shut up! You totally don't get it, when a guy doesn't look at you or doesn't even know you exist, he is TOTALLY into you....!!!
And that ladies and gentleman is how bottom rock we have fall in Engadget... we have become just a bunch of totally whatever Valley girls :) :D
@uck
Engadget, Kobe still sells more jerseys. Kobe is more popular world wide.
You got two things wrong in this article. He was looking at the game.
@CloverPod OH WAIT IT SAYS "OVERLOOK" . My bad
@CloverPod
I read the title as "LeBron James overclocks iPad at MLB season opener" and was like WTF??
@CloverPod
So what. Lebron is better than Kobe in points, assists, rebounds, steals, blocks... u name it.
And after this year's finals, Kobe fans will shut up about "kobe's better cuz lebron doesn't have a ring" crap.
@uck
Umm... He really wasn't looking at the iPad, he was just trying to hold it in to try to make it to the restroom.
he was trying to hear the crappy speaker
This is a gadget news website not TMZ!
@staticjethro hahahahahahaha thats what i was thinking
Uuum... that's just the angle we're seeing it at that makes him look like he's looking at the iPad.
He is actually just looking out at the game, the girl is showing some other guy to the left of Lebron.
@month If you pause at :21 you can see what I'm talking about. His face actually overlaps the iPad from our perspective., making it impossible that he's looking at the iPad.
@month Agreed.
@month: Totally Agree.
@GamingMonkey Oh sorry that's going right from Viddler, where the video actually is. From right here in the post its :07 i guess
@month that's the point!!!!
i'm in here a bit late, but the post reads, LeBron overlooks the iPad...not LeBron looks over the iPad.
He looks as disappointed as I am with the thing.
@Indie Totally.
I'll bet she was showing that you can watch the movie "twillight" or read the book.
Even I'd back away after that.
@hill60
And with IPS technology, he can see it at almost any angle!!!
And in other news....Brad Pitt walked past an Apple Store. Quick, post an article. Be sure to mention "Ipad" several times.
Oh my. 0_0
There are a million jokes I could make right now about that first screengrab and none of them have anything to do with the ipad....
"but rather than drooling over Jobs' latest magic trick, he casually withdrew and returned to his conversation with Dre. Don't believe us? Have a gander at the video just past the break."
Like OMG! How could he do something like soooooo weird!?
Because he has better things to do than to act like some fan-girl over a device he probably doesn't need?
Earth to Engadget, the world does not revolve around this thing.
@LAY @LAY Earth to LAY, that's exactly the point of this post.
I'm guessing your sarcasm detection is seriously borked.
@DarrenMurph I'm guessing your eyes are totally borked, watch the video, he's not even looking at the iPad in the first place. You carry on with your click bait though...
@Alexa Truly astounding. Can you read English?
Just try the headline. Overlooks. Overlooks. Overlooks.
a. To fail to notice or consider; miss.
b. To ignore deliberately or indulgently; disregard.
Nice try, though.
Lebron did his best GSP impression "I am not impressed with your performance!"
Ok, really now? I enjoy a little iPad gossip, that's why I don't use the exclude apple engadget, but this? C'mon guys, really?
What is Dr. Dre doing at a Red Sox game? GET DETOX OUT THE DOOR, MAN!
@cjcamilla
LOL I 2nd, and 3rd that!
been waitin' forever
@cjcamilla
+1 bro...He's worse than me procrastinating at Christmas shopping..
His peripheral vision is not even looking at the iPad, he leans down on the window sill looking at the game and looks at a direction which looks like he is looking at the iPad.
Even check the first picture, who checks a iPad or anything that close without freaking out the other party?
Wish i could see the video but im reading this on my iPad so no dice :(
He is waiting for the iPad killer to come out this summer: http://news.lenovo.com/photo_display.cfm?photo_id=5203
When Windows Phone 7 hardware gets announced I better see a story about Lady Gaga touching the phone with her...you know.
@deepdigits
Why would Lady Gaga touch a cheap iPhone knockoff?
It wasn't Bron lookin at it, it was the rich douche on his right. Either he's rich, or he works for the team. They usually seal of boxes w/ celebs w/ secret service, er I mean rent-a-pigs outside the door..Not that theres nuttin wrong with it..
So some people don't care about gadgets as much as we do? Amazing.
Wow...He's not even looking at the thing!!!!! Engadget news break fail.
@Snarf101 Wow! I know! If you bothered to read the headline or the body of the post, you'd notice that your point is the *entire point* of the post! Hooray!
this is nuts. even LeBron didn't look at the iPad. Engadget should tell the truth.
@symbiandreamsdotcom Or you could bother reading the post, and take notice that we're poking fun at the iPad for being overlooked. Just sayin'.
I love how the commenters keep getting bent out of shape again and again. Engadget wins. Again.
@mlayer
actually, no. while I am an engadget fanboy and hope they come to their senses with all this iPad/Apple nonsense, 2 people I know have stopped checking out this website completely.
oh sure I don't know if that's indicative of anything, but that's still 2 less readers. and by the way they both use macbook pro's.
what engadget still doesn't get when they keep telling "haters" to /exclude/apple/ is that people DON'T mind apple news. just massive onslaughts of nothingness and then pretending they're not bias. this story being a great example.
oh well still not as bad as gizmodo. what a joke that website is.
sad (yea, I said it)
wow somebody is blind.. he is definitely not all up on the iPad. the angle of the camera just made it look like that.. That girl is atleast 5-6 feet away from LeBron. wow just wow Engadget.
@deepen03 Hey! You should try *reading!* It's really fun!
If you do it right, you'll notice the word "overlooks" (i.e. to disregard intentionally) in the headline, and you'll notice that I specifically say LeBron couldn't care less about being near an iPad.
But that'd be too hard, wouldn't it? Yeah.
@deepen03
nah dude. obviously lebron was just checking out the pixel density and was disgusted with what he saw. i mean why else would he get within 1" of the thing? /s
"Never mind the fact that 'Bron Bron' is the NBA's biggest star, some spoiled white girl ignored the fact that he was five feet away after giving him a quick glance and returning to her iPad."
This should clear things up:
The point of this post was to say that LeBron perhaps doesn't care about the iPad, as he was seen overlooking it in the video.
overlook - 1. to fail to notice, perceive, or consider
