Scottevest debuts 'iPad compatible' clothing line, the world cringes (update: available now!)
If you're the kind of person who has no problem walking into the Apple Store on Walnut Street dressed in some urban approximation of safari gear, you'll probably go wild for Scottevest. The company sells travel vests and jackets that feature a million gadget-friendly pockets and little conduits for wires and such, meaning that even the geekiest among us can have a somewhat acceptable-looking PAN, if that's what you're into. And now its SeV Travel Vest is iPad compatible! Available July 1st for $100, please feel free to hit that source link to pre-order today. We will continue to look into the rumor that this is actually a re-badged Joojoo vest.
Update: The founder and CEO of Scottevest, Scott Jordan, just sent us a video message (embedded after the break) to set the record straight. Apparently, the vest is available now -- unless you're ordering it in XXXL (black or khaki). And we're glad that he seems to appreciate our sense of humor.

Will the dorkdom never end?
Oh look!
Yet another bunch of angry, underpaid nerds trying to make themselves feel good about their lives by falsely assuming anyone with an Apple product is going to buy these.
Isn't is pretty much fact that Apple owners are more attractive, stylish, richer, more outgoing and more prosperous than those who don't own Apple products?
I know it's not really a nice thing to say, but you fatties need to shape up and get proper careers!
@suicidebob
No, they just have more estrogen.
@suicidebob
That may have been true in the past, but they sell iPhones at Walmart now...
@wraith404
Your veiled homophobia belongs in the 80s, kid. Remember those days? When you still had most of your own hair
For all you haters out there...
I am proud SeV owner. I have the (sadly discontinued) Microfiber model as well as a 3.0 shell and liner.
They are good products, that have lasted through years of abuse carrying the daily gear a service tech needs.
In my coat right now:
Droid, electricians scissors, zip ties, leatherman, leatherman tool kit, iPod touch, etymotic earbud case, wallet & checkbook, sunglasses, safety glasses, ARC flashlight, 6-piece laptop screwdriver set, USB charger, 3 USB sync cables (various types), USB mini 3-port hub, 2" portable HDD, thumbdrive, and a couple of sharpies.
All which with nary a bulge.
ScottieVest has been advertising like crazy lately. I looked at their site and was not impressed at all by the selection. The style is a bit too "35-50 year old Dad" for me and expensive as hell.
Plus they're stupid. Honestly do you really need to carry all your gadgets with you all the time????
Can you trade in your dignity for a discount?
@tasteskindasalty Your shopping for an iPad jacket... I think that ship has sailed
Reminds me of Sven Architecture Collective
I think this is a great development. Hopefully they will become so popular that I will be able to purchase a non-iPad compatible Scottevest for $30 on ebay some day.
The CEO seems like a cool guy. So funny that he sent in a video! It actually doesn't look that bad at all. I don't own an iPad, and if I did I wouldn't be taking it everywhere, but those who want to impress at the local starbucks, these would be perfect.
I like how the guy makes iPad accessories for a living yet the video he makes doesn't work on the iPad.
The iPad is good, pockets will grow bigger just to fit it.
Man, I laughed my ass off at this :D; also,
I like it. I can carry even more concealed weaponry and spare magazines. Looks like the perfect accessory for the urban or suburban ninja.
But I would never use it to carry an iPad.
$100 for a vest with a big pocket? Really?
@justaj
No not really, it has pockets for all your gear as well as built in routes to snake wires and cables to and from the devices. If I'm not mistaken they have some winter gloves with ipod controls built in as well. Still a little overpriced even with that though.
@justaj
Buddy it has at least 21 pockets + some are touch-sensitive (i.e. you don't need to pull out your iPad/iPod/iPhone to use it.
The catch is, they're not immune to cold weather (except for the +$200 ones)
3 Million bonus points for being a CEO that used the word dude. My kinda guy/company!
do u have pocket for iMac?
If someone sees your iPad you get rob or either shot. If you get shot your iPad have a bullet in it and you be saved by your very own iPad.
@Inspector Gadget80
Of all people, I was hoping YOU would shed more light on the situation...
I just want to sing..."Scotty doesn't know".
I'm hoping these include the radiation proof, cancer guard, inner lining.
LMFAO
that is all.
Now that I think of it, a person who would carry an iPad on their body is the same demographic that wear utility vests every day.
Ok, this guy is awesome. It's the people who go out and make their own company, and stick with it, so they can do/make what they want who inspire me to work towards the same thing. Founder, CEO Scott Jordan FTW.
They were advertising this stuff even before the iPad was released.
Honestly, I don't see why you kids are flaming this idea as hardcore as you are. This is the future folks. And while I would agree it would be stupid to just put on any piece of clothing that fits our needs, the fact of the matter is the jacket really isn't that bad looking. It fills a need and does it in a reasonable semi affordable fashion. If your too blind to cultural acceptance to see that, than your a fool.
I congratulate him on something I truly believe will show some success. Maybe not as big as he dreams quite yet, but dammit he's on his way.
Yes, I will consider buying this product.
Regardless of whether you carry your iPad in it, the clothing itself looks pretty good. Colbert called. He wants one.
The big pocket will be awesome for carrying other things, like a magazine, some flyers you picked up, pieces of paper without damaging them by folding.
If my dad gets the iPad, he is so going to love something like this. He's a pocket aficionado and I'm going to recommend this.
I am blown away at Scott Jordan replying to this article. I am enthralled that he casually shot a video explaining the availability and price as he shouted out to his people in the background. This is what I want in a company. I am not buying a vest but thanks for doing this both engadget and Scott Jordan.
This is hardly the first iPad
compatible vest. It is only the first vest marketed as an "iPad compatible vest."
Considering the CEO of Scottevest is known for giving product away to high profile podcasters and then badgering them if they don't praise the product enough, I am reluctant to do business with guy. It seems pretty unethical.
No big deal, Osh Kosh has been making this for years...

Disappointed with size. If you order the windbreaker I would recommend one size larger.
Also the windbreaker is nylon and not very comfortable in a humid environment, you will sweat.
The multiple pockets attracted me to this but the claim, items won't show in the coat only will work if you get the next bigger size.
Like the iPad, made in China, which China it doesn't say.
"I was informed that that Pack Windbreaker has an athletic fit, so the 3X is more form fitting than some of the other products. althought I am an avid walker, not sure at 62 I would be consider atlethic."
2 star
Perfect for the Thief..
@LAY What about a teletubby suit with a frontal pouch to stick it in? Probably still better than "urban safari."
