Apple to announce iAd / AdKit mobile ad platform on Thursday?
Here's an interesting little rumor that seems all too plausible: Peter Kafka at All Things Digital says sources are telling him Apple will announce a new mobile ad network based on its Quattro Wireless acquisition on Thursday at its iPhone OS 4 event, a report that jibes completely with what we learned about the iAd / AdKit framework present in the iPhone OS just last week. Kafka also says that Google will undoubtedly cheer the move on, since it's trying to convince the FTC to approve its $750m AdMob acquisition -- the presence of a formidable competitor like Apple in the mobile ad space makes the buyout seem more like healthy business and less like "evil monopoly that owns every ad on the internet and is stalking innocents for their flesh with Google Buzz." Our guess is that Apple will give developers a standard way to place ads in their apps using a new OS service and split the revenue 70/30, just like paid apps in the App Store, but that's just a shot in the dark -- we'll see what happens on Thursday.

How about announce a fix to the WiFi/Power issues? kthx
@Mister Warmth It will be fixed in the iPad 2.0. Until then it's your routers fault.
@kabloink Gotcha, going now to stock up on routers - I figure one for each room, just to be safe. Because I need browse websites without a keyboard THAT BAD.
@kabloink You have this on good information I presume? Actually, I assume not. This is supposed to be similar to the first MBA where the form factor was too small in order to make it alluring to customers, if that's the case, it's an Apple hardware issue, something that software can't fix. The overheating? I'm not sure the 3GS ever had a great fix for this, first fix was "Don't play games on your iPhone, especially for extended periods of time." Yes, some software can help here though as with the PDF and the exporting woes. But wifi? Don't hold your breathe and try to link to sources, heres one:

Here's another with your HOPE that's its fixable, but also touting a different hardware issue as another probable cause:

Needless to say, the verdict is still out and it's not the routers fault. Can anyone say "My router hates my iPad?" ...No. Idiot.
@juanvaldez
Still waiting for the next firmware update for your sarcasm meter, I see.
@juanvaldez *WOOOOSH*
In case you wonder what that was, its the sarcasm that flew right over your head.
@grapeDrank Weak... but still funny
meh. if Google can somehow pull off buying doubleclick without much question from about anybody, what is AdMob really in the grand scheme of things.
Car dock for nexus one!!!!!!!!
jibes?
@cameronsipod JooJoo?

Maybe they will announce the iPad 3GS/HD? ;) But no, we'll see, I'm curious to see how they deal with this ad-thing. Is there a good way to deal with it even though apps allready cost avg. $4.99 for the iPad?
Apple announces iPhoneOS 4.0; adds multi-tasking
sounds a lot better than
Apple announces iPhoneOS 4.0; introduces iAds.
Me thinks this will go the way of the apple tv. Nobody liked apps. If OS4 means tons of apps I might pass
@kyphem
It'll definitely mean tons of apps — no question about that — but if you meant ads, I agree that for the consumer, they suck on principle. However, the pattern so far has been that ads have been used to support free apps, and their paid equivalents have been blessedly ad-free. All this would likely be is an API or something that would make it simpler for developers to embed those ads. How the ads themselves are used probably wouldn't change.

@MattsZ dude that is hilarious, highlight of my day
I wonder if developers will be able to use ads in paid apps.
@bjsguess Well, if they do, I'm not gonna buy their apps!
Whats up with these Ipad apps... they all suck!
I'm not so keen on this iAds. Nothins I like more than ADS. /sarcasim.
@Goaliegeek I figure they have to make it attractive otherwise nobody would use it.
If there's always a flashing banner staring at you then yeah it'll be shit but I'd wait to see what it really is
Dear Google,
Bend Over
El Jobso
@Wesscoast
I guess Apple can find one drone to like even this.
Please don't put these "Ads" in the iTunes Store!
@oneloveoneworld
Please, do you really think that Apple is just looking for more ways to squeeze money out of their mindless iFanboys?
Oh wait...
Wouldn't be that surprised, since they're announcing iPhone 4.0
I think this update will finally be a really good one, unlike the last 2 that didn't bring much new stuff to the table.
@mtnDewFTW
I think the App Store sure as heck counts as "new stuff", but yeah, I know what you mean. Nothing really amazing coming to the OS itself for a while.
@Shunnabunich Oh oops, my bad. I wasn't counting correctly, the app store was definitely a game changer.
I mean everything other than that didn't really improve the iPhone from what it originally was.
Awesome! Can I pre-order my ads and pick them up at the store next Monday??
@grapeDrank
Oh boy, now Apple can overcharge you for their crapgadgets AND force you to watch ads on them. I'll bet the ifanboys start lining up immediately.
@grapeDrank
OJ... Purple stuff... Sunny D!
"evil monopoly that owns every ad on the internet and is stalking innocents for their flesh with Google Buzz."
can somebody tell me where this quote is from?
@farsideoff
I read it just now in your comment, but considering the source, I'm disregarding it .
Dear Apple: WTF?
@mps
I say that many times each day in my head.
Sweet, crippled hardware that now features more ads than an NFL game. And mac users complain about flash ads. Practice using that close button.
@jakeZ
No...um.. Mac users complain when Flash causes Google Chrome to crash.
Ads are lame, obviously, so the first person to bitch at is Google, not Apple. Apple is doing this to help traditional print publications put ads on their magazines/newspapers to bring down the price.
Sounds like a good thing, no?
@Wesscoast
And flash ads help keep the cost of places like this...at zero for us.
Sounds like a good thing, no?
Of course as long as Apple does it, it's benevolent and for our own good. Gotcha.
@LAY i couldn't agree anymore. i really don't understand how google is evil yet apple is not. I remember so many apple fanatics talking smack about google and their mobile advertising. Apple gets into mobile advertising and its so smart and amazing.
@LAY "And flash ads help keep the cost of places like this...at zero for us."
No, ADS help keep the cost at zero. Mac users just don't like the Flash.
@jakeZ Crippled OS? What?
So since when are PC users so trilled about Flash ads? Or any kind of ads in general.
I think I missed that memo.
@AntiApple Troll It can't be any worse than what MS forces onto us Xbox 360 owners thy have our units connected to the Internet....
@AntiApple Troll
your name says it all
if ads start popping up on the iphone, i will throw my iphone in the bin and go android.
i was planning on getting the next iteration of the iphone and an ipad....well if this is the case looks like ill be looking for alternatives.
@sacredgeometry Really? Ads are going to make you give up your iPhone? I love Android and want to welcome you into the fold with open arms, but Android has plenty of ad-supported apps as it is. So, if you're going to move from the iPhone to Android because you don't like ads... well, you got another thing coming.
If I pay for an App there damn well better not be Ad's in it!!!! Thats what free Apps are for. You dont see Ad's for Coffee when you open Adobe Photoshop nor any other program you pay for!!!
@Mentat
I can see it now... stupid apple fanboys arguing that apple adds are better than Google! HA!
as if that were a good thing
Any chance that Apple includes iAds to help further subsidize the cost of the iPhone - especially if it's an option for those that don't mind ads?
