Nokia E71 and E66 owners get free Ovi Maps navigation

Nokia E71 and E66 get free navigation
GLOBAL – You spoke, we listened: Free walk and drive navigation is now available for the Nokia E71 and Nokia E66. The latest version of Ovi Maps with free walk and drive navigation has been available on a range of devices such as the Nokia E72, Nokia N97 mini, and X6 since January. After listening to customer feedback though, the Ovi Maps team has created a version that works on Nokia E71 and Nokia E66.
People will be able to use Ovi Suite to side load the latest country maps onto their devices so they can enjoy offline map browsing alongside free navigation. The process of making the latest version of Ovi Maps available for existing devices is quite involved, but the team managed to include complete navigation functionality. Due to technical constraints in back porting the app to existing devices, unfortunately, it wasn't possible to offer further premium content such as Guide Michelin and Lonely Planet guides. These two devices will also be the last of our S60 3.1 and older devices to sport this version of Ovi Maps. But every upcoming Nokia Smartphone will come with free walk and drive navigation out of the box.
These two Eseries devices join the recently compatible Nokia N86 8MP
See below for a full list of compatible devices.
The update is available now from Nokia.com/maps, and will also be available in Ovi Store.
Ovi Maps compatible devices include the Nokia N97, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition, Nokia E52, Nokia E55, Nokia E72, Nokia 5230, Nokia 6710 Navigator, Nokia 6730 classic, Nokia X6, Nokia N86 8MP and (with slightly different functionality) the Nokia E71, and Nokia E66.

Why the hell do they not release a free version for all their symbian phones already? Or, at least, one for each major symbian/s60 revision.
@marmaduke
Because they have to make sure it works well with each phone, it isn't as easy as releasing a version for all phones.
@Goc
well, the point of having a common OS is to be able to write programs that work across a vast range of devices.
I understand they are doing their best to get the most out of each phone, but these devices already had a turn by turn version (just not free). Anyway I do not think Nokia has so far released an application which is so fragmented
that's good news! i just updated it, seems to work fine although i'm not a fan of the new menu UI. What about the 6210 Navigator? Anyone knows? thats a Symbian 3.2 FP2 device.
i downloaded the whole UK map for the N900..
but the search functionality wouldnt work... i couldnt route to a place.. is this the limitation?
@semiloose
The N900 version is different. It doesn't have turn by trun navigation on it. It's just a "map".
@Tes
let me know if you dont have enough work... can always get J to give you some more ;-)
@semiloose
LOL...twit. your phone is shit.
@Tes he is asking about search, not turn by turn, different thing (my old n78 had search but for turn by turn you had to buy license.
Why do I have the strange feeling that AT&T is explicitly blocking the free navigation through Ovi Maps on the E71x?
Isn't this old news for ppl outside No. America? I remember engadget covered the free nav PR earlier.
@CompleteShortStories
It wasn't available for the E71 ans E66, now it is. Read the article.
Long lasting demand broke the Nokia product managers. Yep eheee!!!!
Very Very happy to hear this news. Here is also a prove for E71 model polarity, although the camera is not the most remarkable feature: http://www.flickr.com/cameras/nokia/
Upgraded this morning, and I just got back from a couple hours on the road. It is amazing. This version of Maps is 100 times better than the previous one both in the quality of the directions and its ability to hold the GPS signal. They must have integrated Skyhook tech into it somehow. I'll be keeping my E71 until Symbian^3 is out.
Nokia E71 is the best smartphone I've ever had. Been using it for almost 2 years, have no intention of replacing any time soon. Battery life is great, does everything I want reliably. Thanks to Nokia for making a great smartphone even better.
