Now this is NEWS! I applaud GeoHot for this effort and his work. Sony screwed people over with this update and alot of owners, myself included, were very vocal about it to Sony and we didn't even garner a canned response. Sony started this and now GeoHot is going to finish it. I don't wanna pirate I just want to have the features I bought my console with remain INTACT.
Sony didn't start anything. This little kiddie did by sticking his nose where it didn't belong and exploiting the system. It was common sense for Sony to pull the feature since it was being abused.
@Dr Blight Excuse me? If you buy a device it's yours. You should have the right to do whatever you want to it, including "exploiting" it. Sony removed a feature that they offered and advertised at the point of sale for no reason at all. Geo's original exploit doesn't even really DO anything!
@Dr Blight Sorry. They can't do that. The EFF has filed a nice briefing against Apple for trying to do the same thing and "Banning Jailbreaking" to make it a criminal offense. It's that whole first sale doctrine thing.. you know. The law and all that prevents them from F$CKING with the consumer after the item is legally purchased and all.
@Poospoon Yeah you're right, we DO have specific laws on that kind of thing -- the kind of laws that protect the consumer. If only we had laws against ignorant fanboys like you...
@DoctarPeppar Look, what Geohot was doing was a threat to the platform. He himself wasn't doing anything but it would, and still will, open the door for piracy and hacking. It's going to be the PSP all over again. Sony didn't start this, he did. Honestly, this isn't even about Sony. If you have any respect for the gaming industry at all, this should bother you immensely.
Now, stop being an ass and shut up. I'd rather them take a feature than have the entire platform go to shit.
EULAs doesn't even apply in all countries. Here in Sweden you have to see it and agree to it before purchase, and it's not like the stores have a copy lying around.
The Cobra Tag may help you win that losing battle, acting as a Bluetooth device that attaches to your key ring and connects to your phone, it gives you the opportunity to find the missing item if it's less than 30 feet away.

@Darkseider Agreed. Sony brought this on themselves.

Sony removed the functionality because of Geohot hacking the system in the first place.

@DoctarPeppar
I think you need to read the EULA you agree to.
Sony should start out with immediate console bans on all morons who run this custom firmware.
@DoctarPeppar Wrong! Don't where you live.. or when?? but we have specific laws about that kind of thing

Geohot didn't purchase his PS3, someone else did. Not the first sale.

@Dr Blight *FACEPALM* You're joking, right? RIGHT?
